QuoteNick Chubb was among four Georgia football players who announced Thursday they will return for their senior seasons in 2017.

Also set to return next season are running back Sony Michel and linebackers Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy. The four players, all juniors, made their announcement after Georgia's practice

QuoteRigg went down during the third week of the season with what the school deemed a "rib injury" and never played another down.

Riggs actually sustained three lacerations to his kidney and was deemed out for six to eight weeks, ending his season regular season. Although he had fully recovered and was able to practice with the team before the TaxSlayer Bowl, Rigg did not see any action. Kentucky will seek a medical redshirt to try to garner another year of eligibility for their young tight end.

QuoteQuarterback
Danny Etling: Matt Canada said the QB competition will be wide open, but it's Etling's job to lose.
Brandon Harris doesn't win the starting job and transfers after spring practice, moving Lindsey Scott Jr. up to backup...

X-Receiver
Dee Anderson: Out of an inexperienced cast of true freshmen

Tight end
Foster Moreau: The only returning tight end with any catches

Left guard
Austin Deculus: The only freshman we are projecting to crack the 2-deep

Outside linebacker
Corey Thompson: Yet another player who was lost last August, he can start opposite Key if healthy.

Ray Thornton or K'Lavon Chaisson: This could be a matter of how Dave Aranda wants to play things.

Middle linebacker
Devin White (ex-RB): Another all-SEC freshman, White will be ready to start next year.

Devin Voorhies: Because this position should just be called "Devin linebacker."

Free safety
John Battle: Has filled this role since Rickey Jefferson was lost for the season

Cornerback
Kevin Tolliver: Disappeared from the field during the second half of last season for reasons never made clear

Time to Update the 85: After signing day, what is Georgia's scholarship situation? http://sptz.us/2l4AMQ2

QuoteSmart didn't seem worried on Wednesday when asked about the team's potential numbers crunch. The direct quote: "We'll be fine with the 85."

And that was about an hour before it emerged that graduate transfer kicker David Marvin was on the way this fall, expecting to receive a scholarship. The media didn't know about that yet, so Smart wasn't asked, but no doubt he knew about that, and still felt "we'll be fine with the 85."

That would be, for the uninitiated, the NCAA's scholarship limit of 85. A reminder: Georgia doesn't need to be at or under the limit until the summer begins and the new recruits enroll. What that means: There's going to be attrition between now and then.

Georgia is now probably committed to 89 scholarships for the 2017 season. It signed 26 players, and Marvin's scholarship would make it 27.

There's obviously the Rodrigo Blankenship situation. If you were under the belief that eventually a scholarship would be found for Blankenship, then the Marvin news throws a giant wrench in that. Fullback Christian Payne is also a walk-on, and would have a good case for getting a scholarship. But only if there's room.

If the above numbers are right, then Georgia is four over the limit. How does it make room? Smart pointed out that "you've got guys who are graduates who may transfer."

Smart numbers will work out.  They always do.

Quoteerek Mason confirmed that three players — including two former starters — are leaving the program.

Mason told the Tennessean that linebacker Landon Stokes and tight ends Sean Dowling and DeAndre Woods are leaving the Commodores and plan on graduating.

The report said the players suffered multiple injuries throughout their careers, but was unclear if they would be using their remaining eligibility at other schools or retiring from football.

The numbers will work out for Mason...

Quote"Mitchell's not with us anymore," Smart said.

Wasson originally committed to Alabama as a preferred walk-on, then flipped to Georgia after Smart arrived in Athens. He was expected to compete for the vacant place-kicking role, but William Ham won the job, and then Rodrigo Blankenship took over during the season.

Ham has since left the team. Blankenship will compete with graduate transfer David Marvin...

Malzahn is acting like Kyle Davis is not yet back on campus on the SEC teleconference.

Malzahn on Davis, who posted image on campus: "We expect him back with us fairly soon. That's probably best way to answer that right now."

QuoteBell would've been one of the favorites to start at defensive end for 2017. The Miramar, Florida, native came to Kentucky as a junior college transfer. He redshirted in 2015, but played in 12 games last season with four starts. He had 27 tackles and one tackle for loss.

Bell suffered a knee injury in the TaxSlayer Bowl that required surgery...

QuoteLAKE MARTIN, Ala. — Auburn football's 2017 freshman class will be completely on campus in "a week and a half," according to head coach Gus Malzahn.

Malzahn said Thursday night freshman defensive back Carlito Gonzalez and kicker Anders Carlson will enroll in time for the start of the second summer mini-semester on June 26.

"Those two, it'll be about a week and a half," Malzahn said before his Ambush Tour appearance with the Lake Martin Auburn Club. "Everything's on go for that, and they'll start that second summer session. They're the only two out there, everybody else has checked in and has been off to a really good start."

Gonzalez didn't arrive with the rest of Auburn's freshman class at the end of last month due to what he called a "family emergency."

Carlson, the younger brother of Auburn senior kicker Daniel Carlson, also had an expected delay in his enrollment.
