Reporter #2 was interviewed on 103.7 and he is more than happy to testify as he is included as a witness in the law suit.  He made indication that all 3 reporters are pissed and it indicates to me that they would testify.

Also it was Hugh Freeze himself that called them for a purpose of misleading them to save the 2016 recruiting class.

Maybe, but when they question Freeze about this he may just say, "This is a current and ongoing legal matter and I have been instructed to not discuss it at all". Which of course, will make his interview time significantly less fun for all of us.

Exactly what happened. But media will not let this go. Finebaum probably devoting whole show to suit....

Self-inflicted wound by Ole Miss. Didn't have to happen. There is a limit to what you can say, allege or contribute to a former HC after you have fired him and settled with him. Write HDN the check and get down the road. BIG mistake and now, it just makes Ole Miss look even worse. I love it but what a bunch of D.A.'s.

So I guess integrity does matter!

IKR! It's weird, but I'm SOOOO down wit Hootie on this one. And that lawsuit was pretty fire. And the TIMING is just pimptastic. The day before Hugh speaks at SEC media days. Well played, Nutt.

Are there liquidated damages or does he still have to prove them up?  I think the merits for breach or defamation are pretty clear.  Damages might be trickier.  Though, it seems like a pretty good case for some punitive damages as well.

Apparently, there are some kind of liquidated damages spelled out in Nutt's buyout contract

Yeah, reporters are not likely to use their "source priveledge" for people that knowingly feed them false information. That would only encourage more of what they don't want.

Hootie has said he has not been able to get a coaching job in the last 5 years and he has 10 years of coaching left in him. It seems after this suit his name will never come up again. What do I know.

So, Hootie will get a multi-million dollar settlement from OM, take that money and start football at UALR, and then become their coach?

He would prostrate himself and beg to get that job.
Sadly, the LR sports "media" would get a tingle up their legs to have Hootie and the Nutt brothers back on a football field in WMS.
But Nutt isn't going to spend HIS ill-gotten gains on financing such a pipe dream.

Hootie may not be doing this for money as much as some think.  I'd like to see him. Or have a number.  As much as I'd think this is the prime example of a case most likely to be settled out of court with gag orders because of higher payments, I could just see this being drug through the mud.  I think he's out for some vindication with a lot of smoke.

Also he wants freeze back at the high school ranks.

Anyone thought that maybe there was some possible NCAA infractions with Michael Oher now?  Not far from the realm of possibility with what we are seeing now.

IMHO "The Coach That Shall Not Be Named" is in the driver's seat in this law suit.  My money goes on . . . Ole Miss settling out of court.  Sure would seem to be in their best interest from a publicity perspective since the NCAA isn't done with them yet.  We shall see.

They should have settled before this was ever filed. Beginning to wonder, like others on here, whether HDN is out for blood more than money.

I heard a talking head make a very astute comment about this.  He suggested this will be settled out of court and probably for big money because Ole Miss doesn't want this to go to deposition.  That makes great sense since the last thing they want is to have to go public, under oath and try to explain away this whole mess that Ole Miss has created.

It's just good council from smart lawyers. leveraging his position with Ole Miss down means they can't afford to fight back in the public arena or even less, in the court room. Is it kicking them when they're down? Yes! ... and I love it!

I heard a very interesting perspective from some hardcore Ole Miss fans last night while sitting in front of them at a high school 7 on 7 competition.  One has a son who plays for Ole Miss.

Apparently the story coming out of Ole Miss for some time has been that Reverend Freeze was shocked when he arrived as head coach by the recruiting violations that occurred under HDN's watch.  So he alerted the NCAA so that those violations would not be connected to his regime.  In hindsight he regrets doing that.  Nutt just wants more money.

Fortunately I had finished my Gatorade so there was nothing to spit through my nose.

Everyone knows there were problems with Oher, the NCAA just could not prove it. Freeze got a letter of admonishment from the NCAA due to his impermissible recruiting of other Memphis athletes to Ole Miss while he was still Oher's high school coach... only a fool would believe he did not do the same with Oher.

Personally I think Hootie still has ties up in NW Ark. Pretty sure he has them in Central Ark.  I figure he hasn't blown through his money and is set for life with investments that "others" advised.  I think he is more out for blood and to "clear his name" and try one more time to use that to convince some unsuspecting AD to give him one more chance. I don't think he settles for less then an amount that makes it crystal clear to the world that Ol Piss settled to hide the truth and avoid going to court where thou shall have to tell the truth or risk fines and maybe jail time if you commit perjury

Ole Miss here. The barn's been empty since the late 1960's anyway, we don't care if it burns. Ignore it and the worst case is what? A return to the days of Ed Orgeron? Anybody else in the SEC have a coach who's beat Alabama twice in a row? You probably wouldn't cast him off so readily either.

Settling this would not clear his name. Allowing it to play out and completely discrediting Ole Miss is the end game. He wants to coach again and that, perhaps only in his mind, is why he wants a clean bill.

Settling this would not clear his name. Allowing it to play out and completely discrediting Ole Miss is the end game. He wants to coach again and that, perhaps only in his mind, is why he wants a clean bill.

That's a good point, but if he presses this into court with Ole Miss, another school might not touch HDN with a 10 ft. pole, with him having demonstrated a willingness to go after a former employer for something that at this point, doesn't matter in the least.

My view on hootie is that he wants to clear his name but it's really about the money.  If he can win/get whatever some money in the 7 figure range then he can sit back and say 'well I was done wrong by OMU' but he will be just as happy to take the money, have an excuse and slide back into his hole.

The dude has NO integrity what so ever.  Once an excuse maker always an excuse maker.

Trust me, he has a ton of money.

I think it's three-fold:

>getting his pound of flesh
>clear his name a bit
>a little more cash

What keeps Houston Nutt from getting a job is losing to 1-AA teams, losing 12 straight conference games, and getting his last two bosses fired. You can now add to that list, "suing your former employer." I mean, who wouldn't want to hire that guy, amirite?

Seriously, the guy has a losing record to both Vandy and Kentucky (2-4 against both all time).

Maybe Ole Miss should file a motion to make the lawsuit a conference game. You know Nutt isn't going to win many of those.
