"I think the speed, the physicality, the amount of effort, energy and focus, and partially ... when you have to give it up on the defensive end with the amount of the physicality you have to play with, they've never had to play that way then go out and play offense as well," Pearl said. "It's the biggest jump from high school to college, is on the defensive end. Those guys can come in and score. They can. And they've got enough skill, enough ability, so on and so forth. It's a combination of teaching and physicality and the intensity and the speed; that's the biggest area for growth and that's going to be the biggest area where we have to improve."

Auburn will travel to the Maravich Center on Tuesday night to play SEC cellar dweller LSU (9-17, 1-13) as Johnny Jones' squad have lost 13 straight games since winning at Missouri 88-77 on Jan. 4. In terms of points per game allowed and field-goal percentage, Auburn and LSU are the two worst defensive teams in the league...

"They've got good weapons. They play together and you look at their 3-point percentage, field-goal percentage, scoring and it's all in the middle half of our league," Pearl said. "So obviously that will put a challenge on our defense and that's something we haven't been able to count on certainly in league play."
