2017 NFL mock draft gives LSU seven first-round picks http://sec.news/20Rp9JN

QuoteWalterFootball.com's 2017 mock draft gives LSU seven first-round selections.

That includes the highest pick among the Tigers — running back Leonard Fournette —

Also included in that list are safety Jamal Adams (No. 6) , cornerback Tre'Davious White (No. 10), wide receiver Malachi Dupre (No. 16), defensive end Lewis Neal (No. 18), center Ethan Pocic (No. 23) and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux (No. 32).

Who's next? The top 2017 NFL draft prospects from the SEC East

http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/116444/whos-next-the-top-2017-nfl-draft-prospects-from-the-sec-east

QuoteFlorida: CB Jalen Tabor
If Tabor were eligible for this year's NFL draft, he might get picked before his former teammate and fellow cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III.

Georgia: RB Nick Chubb

Kentucky: DE/LB Denzil Ware
Ware might not be the first player who comes to mind – he had just one sack last year –

Missouri: DE/LB Charles Harris
It should come as no surprise to see another Missouri defensive lineman as a top draft prospect for 2017. Since 2009, the school has had five D-linemen taken in the first or second round

South Carolina: LB Skai Moore
Many believed Moore would leave early and hear his name called this weekend.

Tennessee: DE Derek Barnett
Like Tabor, Barnett's name has been mentioned as a potential top-10 pick in next year's draft.

16. Deatrich Wise Jr, DE, Arkansas
A late riser in 2015, Wise put on a show down the stretch, finishing with a +18.8 pass rush grade on only 258 rushes (10 sacks, 12 QB hits, 21 hurries). Wise is an athletic 6-foot-6, 272-pounder with the frame to grow into a classic 3-4 defensive end and interior disruptor at the next level.

#Vols' Joshua Dobbs makes @CBSSports' list of top 10 QBs to look at heading into 2017 draft: http://bit.ly/24k4MvX

Quote"No character issues here," Dodd wrote. "As an aerospace engineering major, Dobbs is one heck of a quarterback — and if you have to be told — he is also a top-notch student. The Vols will be favored to win the SEC East. Dobbs is the biggest reason on a team with 16 other returning starters.

"Coming off the worst completion percentage of his career (59.6), Dobbs' intangibles are more important than ever. He didn't pout when Tennessee started 2-3 and blew games against Oklahoma, Florida and Arkansas. Dobbs will have to show scouts he can throw downfield. Only 17 of his completions last year went for at least 25 yards.

"His 671 rushing yards led all SEC quarterbacks."

Dodd added a caveat, though.

"To clarify: This is not a list of the top 10 quarterbacks in college football," Dodd wrote. This is a subjective list of the 10 quarterbacks we'll be talking about heading into the 2017 NFL Draft..."

Ole Miss' Chad Kelly [was] listed ahead of Dobbs on the list...

Do you think #Alabama players enter the NFL with more 'wear and tear' than players from other teams? http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2016/05/nick_saban_says_he_resents_wea.html

QuoteNick Saban told a radio show Friday he "resents" the notion that his Crimson Tide players' pro careers are negatively affected by the "wear and tear" on their bodies while in Tuscaloosa.

"I think that's really unfair," Saban told Brock and Salk on 710 ESPN Seattle. "We use a catapult system here, which is almost like a GPS system that measures wear and tear on players. We certainly keep a balance on what we do. We also keep a record of how our players progress through the season and how they finish the season based on the workload we have. Those players all improve their workload throughout the course of the season. We had the lowest injury rate of any team in our conference, which is the only way we can measure it. I think a lot of those things are not even true."

QuoteLast season, 96 players submitted their names for early entry.

Foregoing eligibility to enter the draft is a risk for most players. But for the cream of the crop, early entry is just a formality. Here are five SEC players who will have a chance to enter the 2017 NFL Draft early.

RB Nick Chubb, Georgia

DB Jamal Adams, LSU

QuoteNFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah gave rave reviews on Allen. While he feels Allen lacks elite speed to make him a true edge-rusher at the next level, he more than makes up for it with his technique, versatility and hand movement.

"He can survive at defensive end on run downs if needed, but I believe he's ideally skilled to be a very disruptive defensive tackle at the next level," Jeremiah said in his analysis. "There will be very little assembly required once he lands on an NFL team."

It's never too early to look forward to the 2017 draft. NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah has begun the process already, writing scouting reports for some of next year's top prospects.

QuoteQB Chad Kelly, Ole Miss
"Kelly has an unquenchable thirst for the big play. He loves to attack down the field and that leads to big plays as well as turnovers. I'd love to see him dial it back just a little bit and show more concern for the football."

Chad Reuter of NFL.com ranked the college football teams in terms of NFL talent

QuoteReuter writes. "Nick Saban gets enough big-time recruits to reload every year. The defense doesn't have many returning starters, but [Jonathan] Allen and [Reuben] Foster are superstars leading the way for a bunch of future superstars. Offensively, the Tide has [Calvin] Ridley and [O.J.] Howard, and a boatload of running backs..."

LSU though is not too far behind. The Tigers are No. 2 in Reuter's list featuring a strong defensive front as usual. LSU Jamal Adams, Tre'Davious White and Kevin Tolliver catches his eyes. And some guy named Leonard Fournette is not too bad on the offense.

LSU has tied for the most top-100 picks in the last decade.

Quote"In my opinion, he's looked about the same this year as last," NFL.com analyst Chase Goodbread said. "I don't know that his draft stock has been affected over the last three weeks."

Whether it's dropping a 32-yard pass over Damore'ea Stringfellow's shoulder right between the Alabama cornerback and safety or holding on to the ball too long and allowing a talented pass rusher to get a sack fumble that results in a defensive touchdown, Kelly's shown both the qualities NFL scouts love and don't like about his game in the early going

NFL draft evaluations for SEC quarterbacks

Quote6. Austin Allen of Arkansas, a junior

For the season he ranks third in PFF grades, and has excelled on high-degree-of-difficulty throws. He has been under pressure on 40 percent of his dropbacks, the second-highest rate in the nation, and 63.3 percent of his passing yards have come in the air – the fifth-highest rate in the nation, and a sign that he isn't just racking up stats with short throws that produce big gains after the catch.

The only other SEC quarterback on the list is No. 9 Chad Kelly of Ole Miss, the senior and nephew of Buffalo icon Jim Kelly.

The post said there's a "lot of up and down to Kelly's game,"

Foster might have been a top-10 pick 15 years ago. Now, he's shaping up to be a pick in the middle or late part of Round 1.

QuoteESPN analyst Todd McShay:  "It's the same deal — seven out of the top 10 were from the SEC, three of those seven were from Alabama. Basically, the defensive front guys: (lineman) Jonathan Allen, (linebacker) Reuben Foster and (linebacker) Tim Williams.

"So just like last year, it's a heavy defensive draft, heavy SEC draft, and Alabama is going to be very much a part of it."

McShay said Georgia running back Nick Chubb, who has 606 yards and 5 touchdowns this fall after racking up 222 yards and two scores in a season-opening victory over North Carolina on Sept. 3, will be puzzling for evaluators if the junior makes himself available for the NFL Draft...

"The Florida guys have played well," McShay said. "(Jarrad) Davis is nicked up right now at linebacker, but he's a really good player. Their secondary, they've got (Marcus) Maye at the safety position. If he continues to play well in big games, then people will start realizing how good he is. We've got him in the top 32 overall. I know it surprised some people. I think he's an underrated talent with some versatility."

Bad NFL Draft crop of quarterbacks gets worse with Chad Kelly's torn ACL

QuoteMississippi Rebels and QB-needy teams in the NFL alike were dealt a blow Sunday night with the announcement that senior signal-caller Chad Kelly had torn multiple knee ligaments in the team's 37-27 win Saturday over Georgia Southern.

The injuries, torn ACL and lateral meniscus, will require season-ending surgery and could leave Kelly unable to throw for scouts prior to the 2017 NFL Draft on April 27-29.

The loss of Kelly is a tough blow to an already shallow quarterback crop.

The 6-foot-2, 224-pound Kelly entered Saturday's game as NFLDraftScout.com's top-rated senior. He was the only senior quarterback, in fact, among our top-100 prospects.

QuoteKNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Is Tennessee's Josh Dobbs an NFL quarterback?

An NFL scouting source told SECCountry.com that NFL teams are reconsidering their stance on Dobbs' ability under center after his November surge.

Some had begun to write off Dobbs after a shaky start to the season under center.

The Vols QB has completed 82.6 percent of his passes over the past four games, compiling 969 yards, 11 TDs, 1 INT through the air while rushing for four TDs and 393 yards on 38 carries.

Dobbs leads the SEC this season with 26 passing touchdowns, a 152.6 passer efficiency rating and 36 total touchdowns.

QuoteMel Kiper Jr. believes Pettway, a third-year sophomore, could be a mid-round pick in April's NFL Draft.

"He had that injury late in the year but he was unbelievable up until that point," Kiper said during a conference call Thursday. "He just runs over people and he's got some quickness. He's right now, would be in that top 12 running backs. If he was completely healthy all year maybe would have been in that 6-8 range.

"He could have been in the second-third-round discussion had he finished out strong."

Pettway missed the games against Georgia and Alabama A&M due to a quad injury suffered late against Vanderbilt but returned to action in the Iron Bowl. He is expected to be in better condition for the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma.

Last month, Kiper ranked Pettway seventh among draft-eligible running backs. Kiper's top eight at the position were all underclassmen who would have to forgo at least one year of college eligibility to enter the draft.

QuoteJeremy Johnson's last start at Auburn is likely behind him.

With Sean White expected to be "close to 100 percent" for the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma on Jan. 2, the third-year sophomore should be in line to regain his role as Auburn's starting quarterback for the bowl game. For Johnson, who started the final two games of the regular season in place of an injured White, that means his rocky career as an Auburn quarterback has all but officially ended.

"(It's) just a learning experience," Johnson said of his career late last month. "It's life. I don't really feel no type of way, really, to be honest. It just is what it is."

In four years at Auburn, Johnson has appeared in 29 games for the Tigers, including 11 starts at quarterback while accumulating a 7-4 record. The 6-foot-5, 234-pounder has completed 174-of-273 passes for 2,131 yards, 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Johnson still has an opportunity to make some noise at Auburn's Pro Day in the spring, as well as potential chances to conduct individual workouts for NFL teams -- even if he doesn't receive a coveted invite to the NFL Combine.

Although his Auburn career did not shake out as planned, Johnson...
