Breaking down SEC nonconference 2015 schedules http://es.pn/115KLKg

    Quote
    Alabama Crimson Tide
2015 nonconference opponents: Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee, Louisiana-Monroe, Charleston Southern
A big-name Power 5 opener at a neutral site -- this time Wisconsin in Arlington, Texas

    Auburn Tigers
2015 nonconference opponents: Louisville, Jacksonville State, San Jose State, Idaho
Much like cross-state rival Alabama, the Tigers will challenge themselves right out of the gate with a Power 5 opener at a neutral site (Louisville in Atlanta).

    Florida Gators
2015 nonconference opponents: New Mexico State, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Florida State
Any nonconference schedule that includes Florida State can't be criticized too heavily.

    Georgia Bulldogs
2015 nonconference opponents: Louisiana-Monroe, Southern, Georgia Southern, at Georgia Tech
We never know what to expect from Georgia Tech.

    LSU Tigers
2015 nonconference opponents: McNeese State, at Syracuse, Eastern Michigan, Western Kentucky
[There's no excuse to lost to Syracuse in the dome.]

    Mississippi State Bulldogs
2015 nonconference opponents: at Southern Miss, Northwestern State, Troy, Louisiana Tech

    Missouri Tigers
2015 nonconference opponents: Southeast Missouri State, at Arkansas State, UConn, BYU
On Thursday, Missouri announced it would play BYU at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium...

    Ole Miss Rebels
2015 nonconference opponents: Tennessee-Martin, Fresno State, New Mexico State, at Memphis

    Texas A&M Aggies
2015 nonconference opponents: Arizona State, Ball State, Nevada, Western Carolina
They open with a neutral-site game against Arizona State in Houston...

Contract calls for Alabama to negotiate exclusively for 2019 or 2020 Cowboys Classic return. http://ow.ly/OywhR

    Quote
A provision in the contact for the Crimson Tide's 2016 game with USC in Arlington, Texas calls for a possible return to AT&T Stadium in the future.

It says Alabama will "negotiate exclusively with ESPN in good faith through August 31, 2015 in an effort to schedule a football game between Alabama and a non-conference opponent to be held on August 31, 2019 or September 5, 2020 at the (AT&T) Stadium."

ESPN and Alabama would have to "mutually approve" the opponent in the game. The contract states Alabama will receive $6 million guaranteed for participation. Also, it says Alabama will receive "a minimum of $1,000,000 more than their opponent for the 2019 or 2020 game."

  • Auburn, Oregon to open 2019 season at Cowboys stadium

    Quote
Nearly a decade after their epic championship game battle, Auburn and Oregon are set to go at it again on a neutral field.

On Twitter Tuesday, AU athletic director Jay Jacobs announced that his Tigers football program will open the 2019 season against the Ducks.  The game will be played at the home of the NFLs Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex, in the annual Cowboys Classic.

Barring a matchup in a bowl or playoff between now and then, the 2019 game will be the second-ever between the programs.  The first was in the BCS title game following the 2010 season, a 22-19 AU win in Glendale, Ariz., that was decided on a Wes Byrum field goal with no time left on the clock.

Jacobs announcement means that the next five Cowboys Classic games are set:

        2015 Alabama vs. Wisconsin
        2016 Alabama vs. USC
        2017 Florida vs. Michigan
        2018 LSU vs. Miami
        2019 Auburn vs. Oregon

Kliff Kingsbury on Texas Tech: We just werent good enough http://atxne.ws/1BTAWRD

    Quote
Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury has enjoyed some soaring highs and crashing lows during his first two seasons coaching in Lubbock.

He won his first seven games of 2013, his debut season at Tech. But since then, Kingsburys Red Raiders have dropped 13 of 18. They didnt qualify for a bowl last year.

There was a lot of blame for what happened, from injuries to his starting quarterbacks to poor defensive play, especially thwarting the run.

For a lot of (last season), coaches were doing the best they could, working harder than theyve worked. And a lot of time, players were, but we just werent good enough. Things werent going our way. It doesnt mean were on the wrong track. It just means it wasnt working for us last year. Thats the biggest deal.

When you lose, sometimes your first reaction is to blow everything up and start over. After you have time to sit back and look how it all developed, you continue to work hard, work the plan you have in place and go with it.

With Patrick Mahomes and Davis Webb, quarterback probably will be a strength for Tech this season. And David Gibbs, the former Houston head coach, has taken over the Red Raider defense...

  • Alabama confirmed in a press release Thursday morning that it will open the 2018 season against Louisville in what will be the third-ever Orlando Kickoff game.  No specific date for the contest that will be played in the Citrus Bowl has been released.

he 2018 game will mark the seventh consecutive neutral-site season opener for the Crimson Tide, said UA athletic Bill Battle in a statement. Neutral-site games have been good for Alabama in national exposure as well as financially under Coach Sabans leadership. Our first regular-season neutral-site game in Orlando will provide another great matchup of national interest against an excellent Louisville program, but is also a new venue that I believe our fans will enjoy.

Kicking off the 2018 season with a great opponent like Alabama is a tremendous way to start the season, Battles UofL counterpart, Tom Jurich, said. We continually want to play highly respected opponents each year, and adding a traditional power like Alabama in the opener will certainly be an outstanding challenge. We have a vision to be the best we can be, and to do that, we have to play the best. We are also thrilled to be headed back to a destination city like Orlando. I know our fan base will respond for this tremendous match-up.

Florida State and Ole Miss will square off in the inaugural Orlando Kickoff next year.

No opponent has been linked to the chatter just yet, but Lyons expects it to come against another power conference team. The Chick-fil-A Kickoff has always had a team from either the ACC or SEC, if not both.

USC OC Tee Martin said Trojans preparing for # http://ow.ly/4mXBrF  Alabama, Tim Williams:

    Quote
The game may not be until Sept. 3, but Southern Cal offensive coordinator Tee Martin is well aware of Alabama linebacker Tim Williams.

In the spring game, Williams, who had 10.5 sacks last season, registered a pair of sacks but wreaked havoc on a defense-dominated day.

"He's a great player," said Martin, who joined The Opening Kickoff on WNSP-FM 105.5 on Thursday in Mobile, Alabama. "We're excited about the opportunity."

Martin, a Mobile native who led Tennessee to the national title, joked he wasn't going to give any "bulletin board material."

Martin did say the Trojans have already started preparations for the defending national champions.

Like Alabama, USC has yet to name a starting quarterback.

Just this week, Southern Cal coach Clay Helton announced his decision to extend the competition Monday.

The race is between redshirt junior Max Browne and redshirt freshman Sam Darnold.

Martin is in his hometown this week to be inducted into the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame's 28th overall class.

Alabama and Southern Cal meet Sept. 3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
