-- first-rounders Reuben Foster, Jonathan Allen and O.J. Howard; third-rounders Tim Williams and ArDarius Stewart and fourth-rounder Eddie Jackson -- all came from the same 2013 Crimson Tide recruiting class. Also in that class was third-round pick Alvin Kamara, who transferred to junior college and eventually to Tennessee... Add in 2016 second-rounders Derrick Henry and A'Shawn Robinson, and you have nine NFL draft picks from one class.

Bama's 2013 signing class isn't done yet. There could be up to four more coming next year, as wide receiver Robert Foster, cornerback Anthony Averett, center Bradley Bozeman and offensive lineman Brandon Hill (who's now at UAB) all stand a decent shot of being drafted...

It would mean exactly half of Alabama's 2013 signing class was eventually drafted. The Crimson Tide signed 26 players that year.

It would even surpass Alabama's legendary 2008 signing class, which had 10 players drafted from its ranks. That list consists of first-rounders Julio Jones, Mark Barron, Marcell Dareus, Don'ta Hightower and Mark Ingram; second-rounders Courtney Upshaw and Terrence Cody; fourth-rounder Barrett Jones and seventh-rounders Brad Smelley and Michael Williams. (fellow 2008 signees Robert Lester and Damion Square also made NFL rosters as undrafted free agents).

The 2014 class has also gotten a jump start with 2016 second-rounder Jarran Reed (a junior-college transfer) and 2017 first-rounders Marlon Humphrey and Cam Robinson. But just looking at that class, it doesn't appear to have the high-end depth that the 2008 and 2013 groups did.

2017: Jonathan Kongbo 4*, Darryl Taylor 4*, Kahlil McKenzie 5*, Shy Tuttle 4*

    Average star ranking: 4.3

The 2017 D-line received much of the recruiting hype coming out of high school. Some fans got carried away with what McKenzie and Kongbo could bring to the defense. Injuries have hurt this unit, though.

McKenzie played in seven games last season, which forced Kongbo to move from defensive end to defensive tackle.

Tuttle has played well for the Vols, but his constant injuries have kept him from reaching his full potential.

    LINEBACKER

2017: Darrien Kirkland 4*, Austin Smith 3*, Cortez McDowell 4*

    Average star ranking: 3.6

Injuries took their toll a year ago. Kirkland played only eight games and McDowell played 11. Smith had to redshirt last season with a shoulder surgery.
    DEFENSIVE BACK

2007: DeAngelo Willingham 4*, Brent Vinson 4*, Eric Berry 5*, Jonathan Hefney 3*

    Average star rating: 4

2017: Shaq Wiggins 4*, Justin Martin 4*, Todd Kelly Jr. 4*, Nigel Warrior 4*

    Average star rating: 4

2017 group has not lived up to its billing.

Martin has 29 tackles in two seasons with the Vols and has 0 interceptions.

Warrior came on late for the Vols and has potential to grow.

Kelly led the team in tackles last season with 71 and added 2 interceptions.

    25. Cole Cubelic, OL, Homewood

Cubelic was named All-State as a defensive lineman as a junior at Homewood, but settled as a center after signing at Auburn. He is best known as a current analyst for SEC Network and AL.com, and he hosts a radio program, “"The Cube Show," which airs on 730 AM and 103.9 FM-UMP...

     24. Anthony Bryant, DL, Sunshine

A mountain of a man at 6-foot-4 and 360 pounds, Bryant dominated on both sides of the ball and earned HS All-American recognition while bulldozing Class 1A competition at tiny Sunshine, which has since closed. He signed with Alabama and later played in the NFL and for seven difference teams from 2005-11.

     23. Trey Flowers, DL, Columbia

A two-time All-State player at Columbia in Huntsville, Flowers signed with Arkansas and recorded 190 tackles and 18 sacks during his SEC career. The New England Patriots selected him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, and he has 45 tackles and seven sacks in his NFL career that includes last year’s Super Bowl win.

    22. Antwan Odom, DL, Alma

    21. Ryan Anderson, DL, Daphne

    18. Evan Mathis, OL, Homewood

    17. Nick Fairley, DL, Williamson

Fairley didn’t even start at Williamson until his senior season

    16. Marcell Dareus, DL, Huffman

Another late bloomer, he became a recruiting sensation and raced up national recruiting rankings with 117 tackles and 20 sacks as a senior at Huffman

    15. Dante Ellington, OL, Colbert County

    14. Antonio Coleman, DL, Williamson

    11. LaBryan Ray, DL, James Clemens

The state’s top prospect in 2016

    10. Aaron Sears, OL, Russellville

    9. Kenny King, DL, Daphne

    6. D.J. Fluker, OL, Foley

Fluker rose to prominence as a sophomore defensive lineman at McGill-Toolen, but a family move and Hurricane Katrina left him in Foley.

    5. Reese Dismukes, OL, Spanish Fort

    4. Demarco McNeil, DL, Blount

    3. Chris Samuels, OL, Shaw

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Samuels emerged as one of the state’s top prospects at now-closed Shaw High in Mobile before going to Alabama and becoming a four-year starter. He won the Outland Trophy and Jacobs Trophy in 1999, when he paved the way for Alabama’s SEC title and running back Shuan Alexander’s Heisman campaign.

    2. Willie Anderson, OL, Vigor

One of the truly elite left tackles ever, Anderson played offensive line at Vigor in the early 1990s, went on to be an All-American at Auburn and a later was a five-time Pro Bowl selection in the NFL.

    1. Andre Smith, OL, Huffman

There’s a legend that an opposing defensive lineman ran away from Smith during a game during his senior season at Huffman, rather than try to deal with the massive mauler. Smith is the only offensive lineman to every win the Mr. Football award, he became an All-American at Alabama, and he was a first-round NFL draft pick.

    Who else?
