There is a great thread in MMQB on the money that pro athletes have run through and the personal tragedy of some now in financial crisis.

Without accounting for where it has gone, this thread will countdown the SEC players who entered the NBA since Arkansas joined the league with the highest NBA career salary totals from 1 to 100.

Let's start with #1, LSU's Shaquille O'Neal.

At over $290,000,000 in NBA salary alone, the former LSU, two-time SEC player of the year (along with with Corliss Williamson, the only playas to do so in the Hog Era) should top this list.

This total does not include endorsements for soothing remedies, record sales, movie and TV show revenue including points, or camps.

At #2 is the highest NBA career earner from the SEC East.

Tennessee's Allan Houston totalled $117.56M.

Allan is currently Assistant to the President for Basketball Operations for the New York Knicks and has done some analyst work for ESPN.

Houston went to Ballard High whose fight song had the same tune as a Budweiser jingle.  He waged epic scoring battles in the Kentucky State Tournament Sweet 16 against Clay County's Richie Farmer.

Houston went to Tennessee taking his father Wade as head coach.  Wade became the first black coach of a major men's sport in the history of the SEC.

Allan was a four-time All-SEC first team selection.

Up next, the highest salaried player ever to come from the University of Alabama.

It's a league where it pays to be a big man.

At #3 is Bama big man and Quitman, MS native Antonio Keithflen McDyess with $109.14M in earnings to date and as of post is still active with the Spurs.

McDyess was All-SEC 2nd Team following the wonderful '95 season and All-SEC AP 3rd Team following the even more spectacular '94 season.

Coming up, a player who had it all and lost it all.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

At #4 is Kentucky's Antoine Walker with $108.42M.

Walker helped Kentucky win the NCAA title in '96 as a sophomore and within two years found himself playing for his college coach at Boston. Rick Pitino stated recently that you shouldn't coach your college kids in the pros. They want to get away from "daddy" at that point in their lives.

Pitino claimed he is working with Walker this summer on fitness and fiscal responsibility so that he might be able to live off the salary he could make in one or two more seasons in the league.

Upcoming, a player who's NBA earnings almost got cut short after a tragic choking incident.

Sprewell was on the AP All-SEC 2nd Team in 1992, the year the Hogs entered the league and making All-SEC 1st Team got a lot harder.

Latrell Fontaine Sprewell made $97M in the NBA.

Up next is a big reason why this school made a Final Four appearance.

If he had taken it, he might've been as high as #2.

#6 is State's Erick Dampier whose NBA earnings totalled $96M.

Erick Dampier was MVP of State's best team ever.  The 1996 Bulldogs went to the Final Four and were the SEC Tournament champions, beating National Champ and undefeated SEC regular season champ Kentucky.

Dampier's influence was so great that the ABA's all-time leading scorer and a former SEC All-American has often heard the public pronounciation of his last name changed to match Erick's.

We are counting down the top 100 SEC basketball players since Arkansas joined the league, by their NBA career earnings.  From Shaquille O'Neal to Steven Hill,  we won't stop til we reach the bottom.

Upcoming at #7, he was a chubby kid who was often the last one picked for a game at his NYC playground. He found acceptance when he moved south and east of there.

No. 7 is Kentucky's Jamal Mashburn with $75.62M in NBA earnings.  Mashburn is currently an analyst on ESPN.

Mashburn is arguably Kentucky's most beloved basketball player due to the timing of his arrival and impact.  Co-MVP of the SEC in '93, Mashburn was part of a 30-win Kentucky team that lost in Barnhill Arena. It was described by Kentucky's veteran beat writer as the greatest college basketball atmosphere he had witnessed and the toughest arena in the history of the SEC. It was Arkansas' last victory over a 30-win team in Fayetteville until the '08-09 team upset Oklahoma.

Coming up is the Top Hog on the list, a player who looks to move up quite a few notches in the years ahead.

No. 8 is Joe Johnson $74.99M to-date

QuoteIt's likely that Atlanta will do everything possible to retain him, as he's the biggest reason the team made its return to the playoffs last season. Given his age, scoring ability, versatility and three-point accuracy (39%), he will be highly valued in the summer of 2010.

http://www.scoresreport.com/2009/11/12/the-top-10-nba-free-agents-of-2010/#more-10550

Up next is a player whose college coach gave up a shot at a national title to protect his NBA earnings potential.

9. Kentucky's Derek Anderson $58.97M

In 1997, Anderson tore his ACL in a January game and went into an extensive rehab program. In time for the Final Four, doctors cleared him to play. Rick Pitino said he would not risk the player's NBA career.

In the semi-final, Minnesota coach Clem Haskins drew a technical and Anderson came off the bench to hit two emotionally charged free throws.  He then returned to the bench to never play again. Kentucky lost in the finals in OT to Miles Simon, Bibby, and Arizona. It was Pitino's last game at Kentucky.

Up next is the highest earning player to-date from the University of Florida. There will be two in a row.

jbcarol

10. Florida's Mike Miller $58.39M.

Coach's All-SEC 1st Team, Miller led the Gators to the NCAA championship game in 2000.

The Mitchell, South Dakota native was 5th overall in the '00 draft and was NBA Rookie of the Year.

He is poised to continue moving up the list.

Next up, another Florida Gator. Though not a Florida teammate of Miller's, this guy did team up with Randy Moss.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

11. Florida's Jason Williams $53.79M.

Jason Williams played high school basketball in West Virginia with Randy Moss and later followed Billy Donovan from Marshall to Florida. After one season of exciting ball followed by dismissal, Williams took his show to the NBA.

He came out of retirement to play for the Magic this past season.

Next, we're back to the SEC-West with the third Bama player to have made $50M+ in his NBA career.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

12. Bama's Robert Horry $53.75M.

Horry didn't have a lot of post-season playing with Bama. He did in the NBA.

Horry is the only player who did not play for the '60s era Celtics who has earned seven NBA championship rings.  He has played in more NBA playoff games than anyone.

Next up was a 300-lb. project that maybe even The Bigger Loser wouldn't have taken on. For any big man who struggles with work ethic, consider a grand prize of $50M.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

13. Kentucky's Nazr Mohammed $50.33M.

In 1995, Nazr Mohammed looked like he needed to lose 50 pounds and buy a vowel.  Rick Pitino established a JV team to get him minutes.  With two NCAA championships and one runner-up in his three seasons, Mohammed went to the NBA after his junior year.

He has shown that a big man can make a lot of money in the NBA if he perseveres.

Up next is the top earning Georgia player that entered the NBA during the Arkansas Era of the SEC.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

14. Georgia's Shandon Anderson $49.57M

Shandon Anderson was 3rd Team All-SEC in '95 and '96 for Hugh Durham and Tubby Smith.

Anderson won an NBA championship during a 10-year career.

Next up, it's back to a familiar name from the SEC-West.

15. Auburn's Wesley Person $45M

'93 and '94 All-SEC 1st Team, '92 All-SEC 3rd Team.  Auburn's all-time leading 3-point shooter and 3rd leading scorer of all time.

Up next, a former SEC POY from the SEC-West.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

16. LSU's Stromile Swift $43.19M

Co-SEC POY and All-American in 2000. Swift was 2nd overall in the 2000 Draft.

Swift is currently playing in the CBA, Chinese Basketball Association.

Next is arguably the most financially successful Wallace to come out of Alabama.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

17. Bama's Gerald Wallace $42.8M

He was one-n-done in '01 after averaging less than 10 ppg.

But in the last 3 seasons he has made over $28M and was chosen for the '10 NBA All-Star Game.

Wallace is the fourth of four Bama players in the Top 20, the most of any SEC school not named Kentucky.

Up next is the coach of a university in Arkansas. It's not John Brady.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

18. Russellville's Corliss Mondari Williamson (Big Nasty) $42.67M

In 1995 the 13th overall pick commanded $923,000. He made $23M after the age of 30.

The only man during the Arkansas Era to be a two-time SEC POY and NCAA Tournament MOP.

The NBA's Sixth Man Award winner in '02 has an NCAA Championship Ring ('94) and an NBA Championship Ring ('04). Could '14 be a huge season for the team he is coaching?

Currently that would be the Central Arkansas Bears.

Up next is a player whose mother loved the TV show "Alice"; especially about the time her son was born.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

19. Kentucky's Tayshaun Prince $41.03M

Straight outta Compton, Tayshaun's mom liked the name of the character actor who played the owner of Mel's Diner, Vic Tayback.

Prince was a quiet kid who served his four years during the midst of Team Turmoil.  No Final Fours. A career highlight was a home game where Prince hit 5 3-pointers against North Carolina in the first half. The fifth with his back foot on the mid-court "K", is on the current high light loop for UK.

Prince was All-American his junior season and surprised many by coming back for his senior season. He was SEC POY. He was named to Kentucky's all-time starting five during the Arkansas Era.

He was a teammate on the world champion Pistons team with Corliss and he has an Olympic Gold Medal.

Prince made over $10M last season so he primed to rise up the list.

At Number 20 was one of the first players to utilize Social Networking Media, until his specific usage was banned by the NCAA.

20. Kentucky's Jamaal Magloire $36.74M

In 1996 the NCAA put the kibosh on the Canadian's website jamaalmagloire.com.

Magloire got his championship ring and came back his senior and was a scorer on a relatively depleted UK team.

For UK fans his one shining moment was this one:

Magloire puts Wojo in the rack, Billy Packer with the whine, Nantz brings the cheeze

Earlier this month, Magloire heard of the murder of Canadian single mother Lucita Charles — who left behind a 7-year-old son with cerebral palsy. Magloire paid for the funeral for Charles and plans to establish a trust fund for her orphaned son.

Upcoming, a quick run thru 21-25 on the way toward the third Hog in this listing.

21. Kentucky Ron Mercer $35.23M
22. Bama Jason Caffey $34.0M
23. Auburn Marquis Daniels $31.7M
24. Florida Udonis Haslem $31.24M
25. Bama Mo Williams $30.6M

Oak Hill Academy's (Rajon Rondo, Glenn Bryant) Ron Mercer was a valuable sub on Kentucky's '96 champs. Pitino sold Rod Rhodes and future rights to OJ Mayo to SoCal to clear a spot for Mercer (the numbers work out). Mercer was an All-American and SEC POY in '97.

Jason Caffey was a 3rd Team All-SEC performer during the glory years of 93-95.

Daniels made the All-Auburn Team during the Arkansas Era. He is Auburn's all-time steals leader and 9th in scoring.

Haslem was four-time All-SEC, 1st Team is last two seasons. He made it to an NCAA final.

Mo Williams was a two-n-done All-SEC 3rd Teamer for two seasons.  But he has made close to $25M in the last 3 seasons has a shooter.

We will roll thru 26-30 on the way to the next Hog.

26. Kentucky Tony Delk $19.91M
27. Florida Andrew Donald DeClercq $17.91M
28. LSU Tyrus Thomas $15.26M
29. Kentucky Walter McCarty $15.22M
30. Georgia Damien Wilkins $14.89M
31. Georgia Jarvis Hayes $13.38M
32. Florida Matt Bonner $13.29M

Delk was a '96 All-American, SEC MVP, NCAA Tourney MOP, and current member of the coaching support staff.

DeClercq was always more highly regarded on the Coach's All-SEC than the AP version. DeClercq is an assistant coach on a top-ranked high school team in Florida.

Thomas was SEC Rookie of the Year in '06 and the Atlanta Regional MVP in the NCAA Tourney.

Delk's teammate McCarty recently left Coach Pitino's staff and became an asst for the Pacers.

The son of Gerald Wilkins and NCState transfer Damien withdrew from the '01 Draft and went undrafted in '04.

Jarvis Hayes was All-SEC 1st Team in '02 and '03.

Matt Bonner is highest ranking red haired player in the survey.

Up next is the third ranking Hog.

Time flies. The baby who almost didn't make it. Then he's growing up on Charlie's Chicken for lunch everyday.

He comes to the UofA when he didn't have to and for that a tip of the cap to Ronnie Brewer. 1,416 career points in 3 seasons for the son of a Boot.

Ronnie made over $2.7M last season and hopefully is ready to go. There is no direct info on where his old man topped out even adjusted for inflation.

Up next, a guy who missed a championship season to run a lawn care business. Those earnings will not be included in his total.

41. Kentucky Scott Padgett $7.47M

After academic issues as a '95 freshman the St. X grad was doing lawn work while his teammates won the '96 NCAA Title. Padgett returned for second semester '97 as a 4 who could hit the 3.  Padgett hit big shots to bury #1 Duke in '98 and Kansas in '99.

Scott Padgett is currently the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Kentucky.

Upcoming, an investment in Hog futures and a couple of blasts from the past.

42. Hogs Jannero Pargo $7.33M

Instant offense from Neosho County Community College, Jannero, with two Ns, picked up an additional $2M through his one year contract with the Bulls last season.

He averaged 16.6 in Coach Richardson's last season.

Up next is one of the few SEC players who got the better of the player listed at #1.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

43. Hogs Oliver Miller (The Big "O") $7.15M

With Career totals of 1674 points, 886 rebounds, 345 blocks, 296 assists, 154 steals, and a 63.6% FG%, you can create some combinations that would put Oliver Miller at or near the top of a lot of Arkansas all-time lists.  If you project his averages to a 40 minute game, his star only rises.

Miller earned almost $700,000 by making that comeback in '03.

Up next, his father's legal troubles may have caused this SEC player to try to jump to the League prematurely.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

jbcarol

44. Kentucky Kelenna David Azubuike $7.02M

The British born Tulsa Victory Christian wing was a big scorer in HS.

"Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane," Coach Tubby Smith.

Azubuike's father was convicted of fraud, sentenced to prison, and ordered to make over a third of a million dollars in restitution.  Kelenna declared for the draft, was not drafted, but was later able to help his family make amends.

Up next is the guy selected in the first round spot after Oliver Miller in the '92 draft.

45. Hogs Lee Mayberry $6.94M

1940 points during the MayDay Era, 729 assists, 291 steals, 42.4% from 3-pt. range including 50.4% in '90.

Orva Lee Mayberry, Jr. made all of his NBA earnings in the prior millenium.

Coming up is a player that if had you bet he would be higher on this list than Rajon Rondo in the spring of '06, you might have made some money.
Curated SEC Infotainment and aggregated college sports updates where it just means more on Hogville.net

47. LSU Brandon Sam Bass $6.66M
48. Kentucky Chuck Hayes $6.29M
49. So. Carolina Renaldo Balkman $5.95M
50. Tennessee Marcus Haislip $5.79M

Noah has been called arguably the least attractice off-spring of a Scandanavian super model. He also has two rings.

Bass was an SEC POY.

Hayes was almost done in my married gold digger Cynthia Wilson Smithers and his own agent. Tubby intervened at the risk of his job.

Knicks fans jeered when Balkman was selected in the first round.  The six-million-dollar-and-counting man is laughing all the way to the bank.

Haislip was a good player during tough times for the Vols.

Up next, the first Ole Miss player is revealed.
