The tired "too bad Calipari doesn't care about championships" and "too bad he doesn't win more" NBA Draft night takes remain totally absurd.

A call to wish Hall of Famer Frank Ramsey a happy 86th birthday on Thursday found him at work as president of the Dixon Bank.

Quote"I don't know what the hell I'd do if I wasn't working," Ramsey said. "When you're my age, you look forward to going to work."

Ramsey played for UK's 1951 national championship team and the only unbeaten team in program history (1953-54). He cited good genes as a reason for his longevity. His mother lived until the age of 101, he said. Except for his father, who died at 72, other relatives lived into their 80s and 90s.

"I hope I have it in my genes," he said, "but, hey, I don't make any long-range plans."

UK Athletics Hall of Fame started in 2005. There is a five-year waiting period...

Would know.

Quote"I definitely think we would win," Randle said Saturday at his UK basketball camp. "I don't think it would really be a challenge. I think Kentucky just has too many stars that come out of here, too many good players. I'm never gonna say I'm gonna lose."

Randle could add depth to the starting five and players like DeMarcus Cousins, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Devin Booker, Jamal Murray, Rajon Rondo, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, Patrick Patterson, Trey Lyles, De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk would all be available.

The idea would be to pit a Kentucky alumni squad against a current NBA super team in an exhibition game. Who wouldn't want to watch?

While they all played at UK and could've played together, few if any did play together.

Former Kentucky star Tayshaun Prince joining Memphis Grizzlies' front office

QuoteFormer Kentucky star Tayshaun Prince is going to be named special assistant to Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace.

Prince played 14 seasons in the pros, capturing an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. Prince has some built-in familiarity with the Grizzlies, having played for the franchise from 2013-2015.

While at Kentucky, Prince was the SEC Player of the Year (2001), Second-Team All-American (2001) and two-time First Team All-SEC selection (2001, 2002).

The four-time NBA All-Defensive Second Team member should be a seamless fit into the Grizzlies' grit n' grind culture.

Former UK star Jack Givens has surgery after injury in Alumni Charity Game

QuoteJack "Goose" Givens tore an Achilles tendon while playing in the Alumni Charity Game in Rupp Arena on Friday night. He underwent surgery Tuesday.

Givens, who turns 61 on Sept. 21, scored 41 points in UK's 94-88 victory over Duke in the 1978 national championship game.

Givens tore his right Achilles tendon early in the Alumni Charity Game.

"The most disappointing thing is I wasn't even tired yet," he said after the outpatient surgery. "I wish they'd given me enough time to wear myself out. Shoot, I was feeling good."

Givens said the injury came after he made a shot and started to turn around to go back on defense.

"I guess my memory got the better of me and started telling me I was able to do some things that my old body didn't agree with," Givens said.

The game, which also featured such former UK players as Kyle Macy, Kevin Grevey and Kenny Walker, was part of a fundraiser for various charities.

Report: Former Tennessee guard Josh Richardson close to extension with Miami Heat

QuoteAdrian Wojnarowski reported that sources told ESPN the two sides are nearing a 4-year, $42 million deal.

Richardson, taken in the second round with the No. 40 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, saw a significant bump in playing time with the Heat after one year with the franchise.

6-foot-6, 200-pound Edmond, Okla. native played four seasons in Tennessee and stood out as a senior. In 2014-15, Richardson started all 32 games and led the Vols in nearly every major statistical category: scoring (16.0 PPG), FG pct (46.1), FT pct (<80), APG (3.6), SPG (2.1) and minutes played (36.3).

That campaign earned him All-SEC First Team and SEC All-Defensive Team honors.
