Hogvillers Felix is the 1st ever SEC Freshman of the Week.

ESully.

Arkansas tailback Felix Jones is the inaugural winner of the Southeastern Conference's Freshman Player of the Week award, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Jones rushed for a game-high 137 yards and one touchdown on eight carries in Arkansas' 49-17 win over Missouri State. He boasted a 17.1 yards per carry average against the Bears and became only the eighth freshman in UA history to rush for 100 yards in a game.
His total is the second-best in school history for a freshman and his 80-yard touchdown run is the longest run by a freshman. Brandon Holmes set the freshman standard with 143 yards on 42 carries against LSU in 2000.
Four of Jones' runs were for 10 or more yards, including gains of 80, 12, 24 and 10.
"It's a nice honor for Felix to be recognized as the first SEC freshman of the week," UA head coach Houston Nutt says. "Felix and our other backs made some nice runs and after the game he was among the first to mention the outstanding blocking by our offensive line. Any time you have a big rushing day like we had, it takes a lot of people working together."
Jones was one of three Hogs to top the 100-yard mark. Senior De'Arrius Howard had 120 yards on 12 carries and sophomore Peyton Hillis had 135 and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Another freshman, Darren McFadden, made a run at the century mark, finishing with 70 yards on nine rushes.
Arkansas gained 483 yards on the ground, the seventh-best total in school history and the most since UA ran for 502 yards against New Mexico in 1987.
The Razorbacks, who lead the nation in rushing, averaged 9.5 yards on 51 carries, the third-best single-game average in school history.

GREAT!

Felix deserves it.  He'll have plenty of other honors before his career is over.

Great honor and I hope Darren follows week after next.

Felix is going to be one very good back. I figure this is just the first of MANY honors.

Show me a school that has rational fans and I'll show you a loser.

It came down to Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Arkansas.

We all know who he picked.

OU didn't recruit him, understandably, since they have Adrian Peterson.

Here is a toast to, "Mr. Jones Staying healthy and during his career at Arkansas and beyond".
The first thing I heard today was that he grew up on a pig farm. That's quite a start in my book. And my last memory was watching him hang 70 on Nebraska. Just those two facts are enough (for me to like him). Then, I hear that he's out of the Hayden Fry-Bill Snyder-Barry Alvarez coaching tree. Oh, that's enough for me to like a lot. Then, I hear he's got a 27-year-old wife. Okay, we can stop. I like him.

I thought he looked awsome and totally deserves it.  He reminds me of Fred Talley, anybody else think so?
Thanks for the F Shack.

Some nuggets I found (game notes):

Single Game Rushing by a Freshman:

143 -- Brandon Holmes (LSU, 2000)
137 -- Felix Jones (Missouri State, 2005)
131 -- Matt Jones (MSU, 2001)
125 -- James Rouse (Texas, 1985)
121 -- De'Arrius Howard (MSU, 2002)
118 -- Oscar Malone (LSU, 1992)
107 -- Cedric Cobbs (Tennessee, 1999)
103 -- Chrys Chukwuma (Louisiana Tech, 1996)

Link: Fred Talley released

He was in the Montreal Alouettes Spring Camp.  He went 5/75 in the first game.  He was cut on the 10th of June.  There is the press release the day after

Didn't see a pic of Talley, but there is this 5'4" RB that is on their team.

Does your source show how many carries each had.
I get the feeling that he may have touched the ball less than any of the others mentioned.

Bomis Hawg

I didn't think about that.

Brandon Holmes went 42/143/3.4 for 1 TD
Matt Jones went 10/131/13.1 and 0 TD
James Rouse went 14/125/8.9 for 1 TD (BTW, it was against Texas Tech, not Texas)
De'Arrius Howard went 25/121/4.8 and 0 TD
Oscar Malone went 12/118/8.8 for 1 TD
Cedric Cobbs went 15/107/7.1 and 0 TD
Chrys Chukwuma went 12/103/8.6 for 1 TD

Not a bad list.  Forgot about the rain-soaked LSU game.  Holmes carried a bunch after Arkansas got the lead.  Felix went 8/137/17.1 with 1 TD.  Not a bad list to be atop of, even ahead of Matt Jones.

Someone mentioned the CHUCK WAGON.  Man those were the days.  I lived next to Chris and Bobby 'Bossman' Williams in Walton Hall in 97-98.  Chukwuma had his room seized and searched at least once a week.  What were the police looking for????  Who knows, but he was the coolest guy on the floor.

OU could have used Jones this past weekend.

In Harry King's article yesterday he a a brief anticdote about Switzer getting after OU for not recruiting Jones.
