What's the "D" in HDN stand for?

The last two lines in the CBS Sportsline story:

It is the program's 15th alcohol-related arrest in coach Houston Nutt's eight years with Arkansas.
Hicks is the 30th player to have a run-in with the law during Nutt's tenure.

The D stands for, obviously, Drink Excessively.

Which leads to this question, how can an athlete that drinks heavily perform at 100%?

Back in the day, I watched what I ate, ate energy foods the night before the game, NEVER EVER drank, and even abstained from sex three days before the game because it made your legs weaker. I would think these would be rules that would need to be implimented by the coach, ours did, why doesn't HDN at least do the same with the drinking?
