Gus to Texas??? New OC

I looked on a Tulsa and Texas board but couldn't find anything.

I have several friends here in TX that are huge horns fans.  A couple of them have mentioned several times that they would like GM to replace Greg Davis.  They feel like they should be putting up more points considering the talent they have on the field.  Sound familiar?  Just because they have said they would like him in no way means it will happen.  Simply that they want their program to be as good as it can be.   Of course the same guys also wonder why TX defense struggles so much at times considering their talent.  So who knows.

I wouldn't mind at all, and have stated several times before that nutt should suffer through 2008.  He thinks the pain has peaked now, he hasn't seen anything yet.  And Gus whooping Nutt is icing on the cake.  First he'll do it with Tulsa, then Texas.

Why not?  Texas would be a great place for him to get valuable experience. He would have 4 and 5 star recruits to show off what his offense can really do.  This would parlay into a head coaching job in about 3 seasons.  He could get some head coaching experience and be ready to come back to Fayetteville as the head coach of the Hogs after that.

I would think that if GM went to Texas, that would effectively burn a bridge back to Arkansas, at least in many minds within the fanbase.  Before I get blasted for saying anything negative about Gus, please understand that I personally think the world of the man, and believe him to be the most inteligent coach to ever originate within our state.  But there are many people still out there that wouldn't ever get over him coaching for the Longhorns, and I can at least understand why they'd have those feelings.

As someone who follows Texas football very closely, I would be shocked to see this happen. First off, as stated earlier, Mack Brown is very close with his OC... who are just two years removed from winning a national title. If Davis does leave, it will be on his own.

And even if Davis leaves, Gus isn't going to be the man who replaces him. If a move is made, the coach that is brought in will be someone who people outside NWA recongizes, since Texas is a national program, not a regional one.

If Gus does go to Texas, it will be as a QB or WR coach.

Greg Davis's unpopularity in Texas is epic.  Kirk Bohls says Davis is getting a sniff from SMU, which would mean Mack could be looking for a new OC.  The push for Applewhite will be huge, but Gus can't be discounted.

Its pretty safe to say that Major Applewhite will be available after this year. I wasn't impressed in the least with his offense or his development of JP Wilson.
