Auburn backup quarterback Sean White was arrested early Sunday for public intoxication.

QuoteWhite, 21, was arrested by Auburn police at 2:45 a.m. on the 100 block of N Ross St. in Auburn, according to Auburn police assistant chief William Mathews.

White was admitted to Lee County jail at 3:28 a.m. where he is being held on $500 bond, according to jail records. His court date in Nov. 30.

Public intoxication is a violation in Alabama and typically carries a penalty of a fine and court costs.

An Auburn spokesman did not immediately have a comment.

White had just returned from a two-game suspension for undisclosed reasons.

After being limited in spring practice while recovering from surgery on his broken forearm he suffered in the Sugar Bowl, White lost the competition for the starting quarterback job.

Don't blame Gus Malzahn for Sean White's mistakes.

QuoteScarblog: Of all the issues troubling the Auburn football team three games into the 2017 season, here's one we didn't see coming. Sean White is no longer a member of the team.

The former starting quarterback who lost his job when Jarrett Stidham signed up lost his roster spot after White's late Saturday night arrest for public intoxication.

That was the last strike for Gus Malzahn, who dismissed White and explained his reasoning in a three-sentence statement. One of those sentences resonated more than the others.

"He has made poor decisions that are not in the best interest of our program, and more importantly, himself," the statement said.

Translation: The person most responsible for White's behavior that led to his dismissal is White himself. Going forward, he has more important things to worry about than football.

Let's hope, with the help of family, friends and the toughness he's displayed on the field, he gets back on the right path.
