113 years.  They have had 3 10 win seasons  Mullen has 1 of those 3.  They have had 5 9 win seasons  Mullen has 2 of those.

They have never had more than 10 wins in a season.  Their last 10 win season was 1999. Arkansas has had the same amount of 10 win or more seasons since 1999 than Mississippi State has ever had in their college history.

After Saban who else but Mullen. Overall the SEC coaching fraternity is weak.

Not sure that I would call this record bad or even average! 9-4-----10-3----9-4
plus an overall record of 63-42. I think most of us would take that and run with it right now!
I have to believe that he could recruit better here than Starkville.

So 1 season out of 8 with a winning conference record is great?

It's Mississippi State, the second  schoool in Mississippi.  Mullin is a good coach.
The more smites the more intelligent I get.

Well he has a huge QB - a rich man's Matt Jones - that is making him look smart. Fitzgerald is a stud. YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT - we have a back QB that could be the real deal too. AND YOU KNOW WHAT - he won't play a meaningful snap all year, in part, because it builds in another excuse NEXT YEAR for Long and Brett to plead their case for needing more time. If you don't think that's crossed these mediocre Mary's minds you've never been in corporate America before.

It's just so depressing that Cole Kelley will be completely wasted here.

You may want to look at the MSU records prior to Mullen. Is bad and Starkville is a dumpster Fire of as town

Their record would be considered mediocrity here and people would be calling for Mullen's head.

I do believe he is a really good coach, but his record isn't good.

This is a funny point. Look at his first five years at Misstake. Not much better than CBB's. Especially considering that pitiful school does everything they can to avoid scheduling P5 OOC games.

And that would be a great point if CBB had taken over 5 Years worth of JLS.
The situation is not even remotely comparable.  Dan Mullen took a program that had sucked since Coach McKeen in the 1940's, and made them matter. Mullen Accounts for more than 1/3rd of all of MSU's bowl appearances.

Arkansas whines about the one lost year with JLS, try the below.

2004   Mississippi State   3–8   2–6   6th (Western)
2005   Mississippi State   3–8   1–7   T–5th (Western)
2006   Mississippi State   3–9   1–7   6th (Western)
2007   Mississippi State   8–5   4–4   T–3rd (Western)   W Liberty
2008   Mississippi State   4–8   2–6   T–4th (Western)

1 Bowl out of 5 years, and the rest the time was absolutely horrible.

The other thing that makes it impossible to compare, is that while his first 5 years at State might be superficially similar to CBB, it was also his first 5 years as a head coach. If you are using this comparison to admit that CBB wasn't really a HC at Wisconsin, then biy did Arkansas get fleeced paying 4 Million for a Glorified assistant coach.

You are comparing a top 25 program all-time to Miss State different standards.

His overall record is bad by Arkansas standards and godlike for Miss State

That record is great in Context. Historically the only SEC team worse than MSU is Vanderbilt. Had he started in a non Power 5 Conference, he would have eye popping numbers (A-state for example). Looking at what CBB has "accomplished" here, and his record at Wisconsin should have taught all of us the danger on not looking into the context of the numbers.

And if he can get the kind of record at MSU , he would do vastly better at a school that hostorically does better.

Looks like that DC was a good move for them

His recruiting is nothing special but he's one of the few that can win with 3 star players in this conference.

He gets stars in the right spots, besides Mississippi is littered with big and fast specimen to fill out a roster. It's literally obnoxious what these guys have to choose from in the Juco system here...

Wikipedia shows us to have a .590 all time winning percentage vs Ms St with .490.  Ms St has arnd 76 fewer games than us.  It's a difference, but not significant.

GoHogs1091

I would say the top 3 are Saban, Mullen, and Stoops.  Mason may be 4th best, but he is at a place that is real difficult to win at consistently.

Then a huge gap to the rest of the SEC Head Coaches.

There has been some real perplexing hires in the SEC since 2012.

Go Hogs. Go Noles.

elviscat

He knows how to develop players and he knows how to coach. If you could hire him it would be a step in the right direction. I don't believe he would take the job but it's worth the try. He destroyed LSU last night in every phase of the game. LSU, was never in the game.

MULLEN TO ARKANSAS!!!!!

Ummmm, look what longevity and a little patience does for a program.
My ole buddy Biscuit has crossed that rainbow bridge. Life sure is different without him around.
