I agree, but can you imagine a few 300 plus hitters in the lineup to go with the stellar pitching. Maybe we have a couple though

Quote from: ukchingy on Today at 09:15:54 pmAnd that's fine, he just assembled his coaching staff this week. Things don't fall into place overnight. Like someone else said, might want to actually win some games before mouthing off too much. I think people will be surprised, I think Pope will do just fine. We don't expect to be world beaters this first season, he had a total rebuild to do which is what we expected would happen whenever Cal left. It was going to happen some day, that's just the nature of how Cal builds his team.

As for the other guy (ChitownHawg) who said our AD is an idiot, he has made a lot of good hires and a few not so good ones. He's not an idiot though, he had his hands tied a lot on the coaching search. People like you love to mouth off and judge others a lot without knowing that person's full story. You better hope people don't judge you the same way you judge them, we all have our skeletons.

Keep on pumping that sunshine. Pope has had two weeks. Every big name that was supposedly interested has removed Kentucky from consideration and landed somewhere else. It's literally OKAY to come to terms with the obvious - Kentucky went from a HoF coach to a completely unproven one. The recruiting won't be anywhere near the high profile status it's had for years, and the program is probably going to be in rough shape for a couple of years. Do I think Pope could be reasonably successful? Yes. Do I think he gets the time necessary to do so? Probably not. Will he bring deep tourney runs and sniff a championship? No. There were so many other guys that deserved a shot, and the hire seemed so quick and panicky. He honestly has a mountain to climb already. Kentucky fans can keep dissing the guys hopping from Kentucky to Arkansas, but if they were recommitting to Kentucky, they would be slobbering over them. The narrative is tiring, and the reality is apparent to everyone outside of Lexington.

Quote from: hogfan870 on Today at 09:11:59 pmDefinitive statements like this crack me up.  Baseball is a funny game. Nothing is this definitive.

And you do realize that our hitting has taken us to number 2 in the RPI and all the polls, 15-4 in conference, which is first place in the SEC West - and depending on what happens in this extra inning game in KY, maybe tied for 1st place in the SEC (best conference in the county by far) - and a 36-6 overall record, right? As frustrating as our offense has been, it has been good enough to earn all of that when combined with our pitching.

Now tied for first place overall in the SEC because SC (who we beat 2-1 on the road last week) just beat KY.

Quote from: Knot2brite on Today at 09:19:19 pmThey don't need to hit .300 to win it but we need get more consistent with timely hitting. They leave way too many on base and in scoring position to continue to be successful. They have won many close games but sooner or later you run out of luck and have a let down.

Number of men left on base is a funny stat and one I used to look at and agonize about. The thing is unless you're hitting home runs everytime you get someone on, you're going to leave a lot of men on. I would also like to see more timely hitting, bit don't get worked up about men LOB. I've seen us score 15 and leave as many on base.

Serious question though. Whose idea was it to give Cal that lifetime contract with a $30 million buyout? KY owes us a thank you on that one because THAT was dumb.

Quote from: Iwastherein1969 on Today at 09:15:39 pmIt's very hard to believe that a softball game between two of the dregs of the SEC took away an opportunity to watch two of the VERY BEST collegiat baseball players in the country.

Ridiculous wasn't it?
SEC should still use the SEC Alt channel and thrown the softball game over there.
This baseball game should have been televised from start to finish.
