That's about the capacity of ye ol' Shreveport stadium, no?  Sounds like a full house.

26.2Hog

I doubt very many will show up for the game with those two teams.

I did called the Independence Bowl and asked if I could buy a ticket at the stadium right before the game.  They said I could.

I asked, 'What time does the game start?"

They said, "What time can you be here?"

Maybe this game should be held at Shreveport High School (if such a thing exists) to make the stands seem full.  I would say maybe ULL or ULM's stadiums, but even those would seem empty.

Atlhogfan1

A&M's situation with playing Texas and the MCB wanting a "brand" program to match with ND helped throw this all off and the Indy Bowl got screwed.  I haven't checked to see how they got Miami from the ACC as I don't know how the ACC does it.  But no bowl outside of south Florida ever wants Miami.  They have no traveling fan base.  The Indy needed an SECW program and should have probably gotten Arkansas or A&M.  The SEC or ACC or both owes the Indy for this one.
Quote from: MaconBacon on March 22, 2018, 10:30:04 amWe had a good run in the 90's and one NC and now the whole state still laments that we are a top seed program and have kids standing in line to come to good ole Arkansas.  We're just a flash in the pan boys.

What appeal does this game have for them? Let down of a season so there is no enthusiasm, they don't care about the opponent, long way for them to travel...

None at all. The Independence Bowl is probably really mad at the SEC for scheduling this one. They would have preferred us or A&M. Heck, even Tennessee would be better than this.

This choice was due to the SEC knowing that Arkansas and LSU would travel well (hence matchups with Texas and Notre Dame) and that A&M would only travel for a good opponent (hence West Virginia).

Most of those may be local. I should amend the OP: South Carolina has only sold 700 of their 8,000 allotment. Don't know how many are buying from other sources.

I know the Hogs will sell a ton to the Texas bowl, any body know how many we  have sold ? I would like to  compare our fan base  to the rest of the sec.

LSU will sell out.
Bama has sold out.
Miss. state has sold 12K

I can't disclose my source but I have a reliable friend who says it's almost 800 now!

NaturalStateReb

Just got an email from Ole Miss saying that all ticket orders will be fulfilled.  Sounds like they didn't sell everything, but the person I spoke to at UMAA said that the Peach Bowl sent Ole Miss another allotment of lower level/mezzanine seats.

+1. They could probably get a better attendance figure if they would just have a poll and allow people to choose when the game starts.

Independence Bowl is at the bottom of the SEC pecking order so they always liable to get screwed. SC didn't have a quality enough team to warrant any of their close bowl ties, so they got shipped out.  It was here or Birmingham for both them and Florida, and Birmingham took Florida. Can't imagine the Gators are buying much more of their allotment either.

I don't know how many of them are Arkansas fans, but I heard the Texas Bowl had sold 60,000 shortly after they named Arkansas vs Texas.  I can't verify this but it was from a former high school coach who has close ties to the UofA.

It's not that Shreveport isn't a great city because it has some positives but it's just that it is viewed as the bottom of the pecking order during the bowl selection process for SEC bowl eligible teams.  So it's basically like getting picked last at the schoolyard.  No one likes the feeling.

It's an awful game between 2 mediocre teams with the outcome meaning nothing.  700 seems good

Florida vs U would have been a more intriguing matchup.

Indy Bowl and Birm Bowl have the 9-10 picks. The group of 6 picks through all the decent candidates before them. Indy was praying we would fall to them but our good fortune was their misfortune.

I bought 2 after we beat Ole Piss thinking the Hogs would go there.  Thankfully I was able to get rid of them with only a $20 loss.

I tired to warn people we weren't going there and not to do that. Sure it was a possibility, but with the SEC having freedom to assign 6 teams it was a longshot to guess.

700. As in seven hundred. Wow.

Doesn't surprise.  That's a log way to play a nothing game against a nothing team.

Can anybody tell us how many tickets Miami has sold?  I'd be very surprised if they sold 300.

They should promote that with a ticket purchase you actually get to play one snap during the game.  That should get another 10 or 11 tickets sold.

South Carolina's players probably don't want to go anymore than their fans do.
Can't say I blame them though. If I was driving 800 miles from Columbia, SC, I'd hit Key West, not Shreveport.

If there is anything good that might come from situations like this, perhaps a good number of these 'lower - tier' bowls might consider the dwindling interest in their games and stop offering bowl games no one really cares about anymore.

In the current environment, college football needs to drop 3/4's of the current bowls.

I have to believe the proliferation of bowl games over the past decade (or so) has decreased the viewership numbers on a per game basis.  Also, given the changes in how we consume media and sports events these days, it is hard to see any sponsor getting an adequate bang for their buck these days.

It's so bad they are adding two more next year.

Yea, this was really a surprise.  The tie-in with the ACC guaranteed one team on the East coast and the SEC stuck them with another.  And this in a year when every SEC-W team was bowl eligible, but the Independence still wasn't able to invite a team near by.

I guess this is why there's so much talk about Miami around here.  I'm glad we're playing Texas, but I wouldn't have minded playing Miami.  I'm just glad we're not playing ECU or Louisville.  Outside of the coaching angle, I don't know why so many people find the Georgia/Louisville game interesting.

Back on South Carolina, another reason their ticket sales are so poor is probably because their fans have a higher standard after the past few years.
