Tailgating Spot?

Hey Guys, Me and some buddies are going to the SOCAL game. we do not have tickets we are just going to tailgate all day but we have never done it before. We are wanting to bring a 12x12 canopy,grill,ect. My question is how do you get a spot and were is a good spot.
