I'd like to see more small ball, I know I'm in the minority and that's fine and I love our team and coaches. Not a knock on them at all, just feel like we need to do something to get some pressure on the other team. Get some guys on and move them around. Try to extend the inning, put a little more pressure rather than trying to just get the pitch count up. And I know we have a few guys that swing early and it's worked at times and at times it hasn't.if a pitcher is struggling I'm all for it. Either way I'll cheer em on till the end.

2024 Top 25 head coach rankings: Steve Sarkisian, Lincoln Riley and Lane Kiffin all crack Top 10

by: Jesse Simonton

Quote1. Kirby Smart, Georgia
Smart is the undisputed top-ranked coach in America right now. He's won at least 11 games in six of the last seven years, has a pair of national titles and just inked another No. 1 recruiting class.

2. Brian Kelly, LSU
Kelly has done everything but win a national championship at the FBS level. He's won at least 10 games in seven straight seasons, producing a Heisman Trophy winner in quarterback Jayden Daniels in Year 2

3. Kalen DeBoer, Alabama
While DeBoer's resume as FBS head coach is fairly light, the man rarely loses — whether it's at Sioux Falls or Washington (104-12).

5. Steve Sarkisian, Texas
Sarkisian won 10 games for the first time in his career in 2023, resurrecting the Longhorns' program back to national prominence by winning the Big 12 and making the CFP.

10. Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss
Kiffin just led the Rebels to their first 11-win season in school history, and like Sarkisian, has overcome a rocky start to his head coaching career (be it the one-and-done season at Tennessee or the stint at USC). Before Kiffin arrived in Oxford, Ole Miss had just three 10-win seasons in 48 years. (FIFTY!!!)

OmaHOGS - Extra Innings,The Road to Omaha / Re: Hitting

Quote from: BroyledNutts on Today at 07:56:56 pmYou have to hit the ball to win.
I understand that launch angle philosophy can produce base hits if you "miss" your home run cut,
but depending on walks and HRs as a core of your offense is a cheap substitute for actual hitting
for average - and we've seen how easily it will beat you when you run into a team with quality pitching
that can force you out of that approach and into a scenario where you have to produce station to station
baseball to win.

I understand establishing a philosophy and sticking to it, but stubborn adherence
to unproductive approaches flirts with the definition of insanity.
Launch angle is a boogeyman on this board. We are a better than average team at avoiding strike outs this year, with bad power numbers. That's much more inline with the contact approach many in here advocate for.

Quote from: Flatline on Today at 07:36:51 pmThe fact that DVH has not figured out who to play full time in the outfield and changes players and line ups daily is something to be concerned about.

It is hard to be a consistent hitter when you are in and out of the lineup every other day or week. He is going to have to make a decision soon. These guys need consistency.

Not sure I agree. Diggs has started every SEC game. Wilmsmeyer got the first 6 of 8 series at CF before DVH pulled the plug. LF has been the only rotational OF position which isn't that unusual. Wilms had plenty of chances to work out his consistency and couldn't.

Tre Mitchell snubbed from G League Elite Camp invite list

by: Adam Stratton

QuoteAccording to Jonathan Givony, Kentucky's Tre Mitchell was one of just nine players in the ESPN Top 100 NBA prospect list to not receive an invite to the G League's Elite Camp. He joined Armel Traore, Zaccharie Perrin, Andrija Jelavic, Yannick Kraag, Ilias Kamardine, Dylan Disu, Riley Minix, and Tennessee Volunteer-turned-Arkansas Razorback, Jonas Aidoo on this list of disappointment.

Mitchell was a godsend for the Wildcats last season, coming over from West Virginia thanks to Bob Huggins' not-so-subtle firing. He was averaging 13 points per game through the first 20 games of the season, before, unfortunately, a shoulder injury derailed him and he was never the same.

It seems the injury and subsequent plummet in production also cost him a shot at the G League Elite Camp, a sort of feeder session into the NBA Combine. The only Kentucky player to receive an invite was Ugo Onyenso, although, the most likely scenario is a return to college. Where, exactly, is still up in the air, but it most certainly will not be back in Lexington.

Monday Morning Quarterback / Re: Chamblee to SMU

Quote from: bennyl08 on Today at 08:37:30 pmYou just said SMU won't lose to the type of team they have a laundry list history over the past several years of losing to.

Do you want a laundry list of coaches who did well at smaller schools only to not achieve that same success at a higher level? And yes, the ACC is a higher level from what SMU has been at, and still a massive drop down from the SEC for Chamblee.

I said they don't in present form with real leadership. You are aware they finished in the top 25 at the end of the season for the first time since 1984.

Chamblee is going to a better team in current form in a strong conference. Let's be honest every conference is a step down from the SEC Most seasons.
