You could equate the NIT to a majority of the bowl games.

Well there also was no SEC program to get a bowl game and a NCAA berth.

I am always ready for Hog Ball!

The football season has no bearing on my excitement for basketball season to begin.

I know I'm in the minority, but I rank Hog basketball above Hog football every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Has a lot to do with the era in which I grew up, but for me personally there is just nothing better than watching the Hogs run up and down the court!
Woo Pig Sooiee!  Can't wait for the season to tip off.  I'm hoping for a much more competitive team this season.

....and that helps?  :)

Clearly shows how far our program has fallen.  No relevance anymore in football, and no relevance in basketball in the last 18 years.

oldbooniehog

Based on results thus far, it really looks like you also be able to add "and not make the NCAA baseball post-season, either" in a few months.

Thank goodness for track. Hopefully the softball team can carry the torch.

Is Jeff considering dropping all sports except track and cross country?

BigNasty

Did Tennessee not go to a bowl?

Edit: they did not

Big Papa Satan

Athletic director of the year is far more prestigious.

No...it hurt to post this. But as an alum & contributor to the program, sometimes, you have to take a good, hard look and assess the situation.

This current state of the program was predicted by some at the time of his hiring.

But hey, we have cool music at games now.

I like the thought of "getting rid of" and Jeff Long in the same sentence.  For some reason our failures...such as the double whammy from the title of this thread...are never associated with the guy being paid seven figures to manage our entire athletic department and ensure that things like that don't happen.

We have been rebuilding the bball team for almost 20 years now.  For football it has been 1.

The big question is, will we have to endure more of the same in football and basketball next season?

No, but the kids love the anthracite uniforms.

That's why we keep raking all of those 5*'s in football and basketball.

The NIT is a NCAA tournament.  Therefore it is false

No.  You are a joke.  Please stop

And this is supposed to prove what? We also didn't go to a bowl or the tournament after the 2008 season. Guess it was all doom and gloom back then, too.

No, it is the NIT. It just happens to be owned by the NCAA. That's like saying your Saturn is like a Cadillac because both were owned by GM.

Just stating a fact. Not saying things can't turn around. But as of right now, the programs are not where they should be.

It's a bad year! Deal with it. Things are turning and we will be up there again and we will be down again. It's called sports parity.

thanks Jeff long. At least basketball seems to be trending upward. Football will be poor for quite a while.

We could stay this way for the next decade and there would still be those singing his praises. As long as the $$$$ keep rolling in and we keep building stuff.

That's your prerogative. You may be fine with the status-quo... But don't criticize me for expecting more from our athletic department. If you are happy with the way things are, fine. But some of us expect more than the UofA is currently producing.
