Jon Tayler ‏@JATayler  · 3h3 hours ago
Dansby Swanson is the first college shortstop taken first overall since the Pirates drafted Jeff King out of Arkansas in 1986.

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan  · 2h2 hours ago
When Astros passed on Arkansas CF Andrew Benintendi at No. 5, Red Sox were thrilled. Sources say he's Boston's guy at No. 7.

Matt Jones ‏@matthewojones  · 2h2 hours ago
Andrew Benintendi is Arkansas' fifth first round draft pick since 2007. Only Vanderbilt (7) has more among SEC teams during that time.
Good info

The Tigers love SEC players and commits.  Might be a little bit of a reach, but he is a player.

Finally a Vandy signee off the board.  Hopefully we see another 5-6 tonight because there could be that many.  Their recruiting class is just nasty.

JHicks3636

Los Angeles Dodgers get a pick for losing Hanley Ramirez to Boston who lost its Competitive Balance Round B pick. The Bums take
35. Kyle Funkhouser, RHP, Louisville

JHicks3636

The last compensation pick goes to Baltimore for losing Nelson Cruz to the Seattle Mariners who lost its 1st round pick.
36. Ryan Mountcastle, SS, HS
Another shortstop

JHicks3636

The next 6 picks are called Competitive Balance Round A picks. I have no idea what that means. Feel free to jump in if you know. TV is calling it Lottery Round A.

King

Some projected him to be drafted by now, but almost all had him first round...

Ouch, I guess he has really fallen.

no, he went in the first round
Like the erstwhile Clark Kent, my true identity is shielded.  I am an author, Nathan J. Allison is my pen name.

If one team has the pool to sign him, it is the Astros.  They can probably get Bregman for 4M or so (it will be underslot) which leaves them some money to play with to sign him.

JHicks3636

The Colorado Rockies go next in the round
38. Tyler Nevin, 3B, HS

I liked hearing the interview with Manfred on MLB Network and how he wants to make the MLB Draft a bigger event.  It sounded like he wanted to coordinate with the CWS.  Maybe they can have the first two rounds the Friday night before the first round which would have more big time college players there.

JHicks3636

Next up is the St. Louis Cardinals. Choice is
39. Jake Woodford, RHP, HS

Interesting selection for the Braves.  Good to see a Mississippi State signee off the board.  He will start out at 3B for the Braves, but is much like Brett Eibner and could move to the mound if needed.  Throws 95 from the mound.

JHicks3636

Last pick in this round goes to the Cleveland Indians.
42. Triston McKenzie, RHP, HS
Vandy recruit
