2017 Top247 four-star Kodye Pugh is unofficially visiting Florida today.

QuoteA long 6-8 small forward, Pugh is from Baltimore, Maryland but attends Blair Academy in New Jersey. He is ranked No. 70 in the Top247 and No. 140 in the 247Sports Composite.

DeAndre Ayton remained No. 1 in the 2017 rankings. Why? @JoshGershon breaks it down | Story: http://www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1641433-deandre-ayton-remains-number-one ...

QuoteScout's updated 2017 rankings have a familiar face at the top, as DeAndre Ayton remains the nation's number one prospect.

The 7-foot, 235-pound center from Phoenix Hillcrest has been terrific in multiple evaluations this season and the junior will have a pretty firm grasp on the top spot heading into the spring.

At 7-foot with a 7-foot-4.5 wingspan, Ayton has good size and long arms with broad shoulders which will allow him to put on plenty of strength.

If Ayton plays college basketball it will be as a five, but his face up ability and skill set along with mobility give him the chance to play the four in the NBA.

It remains unknown if Ayton will play college basketball, but sources tell Scout that Kansas has been recruiting him the hardest in recent weeks. In late December, Ayton told Scout that Duke, Kansas and Kentucky were the top three schools on his list.

Strongest evaluation of a high school junior since Skal Labissiere

Recruiting Roundup: DeAndre Ayton, Deng Gak, Kevin Knox https://www.sny.tv/college-recruiting/news/recruiting-roundup-deandre-ayton-deng-gak-kevin-knox/164902416 ... via @SNYtv

QuoteDeAndre Ayton, the consensus No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2017, impressed observers at the Basketball Without Borders camp in Toronto over NBA All-Star weekend and is the unofficial pick to go No. 1 in the 2018 NBA Draft.

"Could really benefit from a year in college under a respected and strong-minded coach that will challenge him, but there are major question marks if he can get eligible due to the controversy surrounding his 'high school,'" DraftExpress.com wrote. "Only time will tell, but may be too talented to pass up at the very top of the 2018 NBA Draft regardless."

A native of the Bahamas, Ayton is being courted by Kentucky, Duke and Kansas, among others.

"Big man with an unlimited ceiling," DraftExpress wrote. "Can absolutely do everything on the floor when he's playing to his full potential."

Have not seen such glowing praise for a big since Skal.

Markus Howard Visiting Marquette This Weekend, then Central Arkansas and Baylor
https://www.sny.tv/college-recruiting/news/2017-point-guard-markus-howard-taking-officials-weighing-reclass-to-2016/165608856 ...

QuoteOnly six players remain uncommitted in the 247Sports 2016 Composite Player rankings. That number could change prior to the regular signing period -- which begins on April 13 -- depending on a final decision by Howard on a potential reclassification from 2017 to 2016.

For now, that decision is on hold as the the four-star floor general out of Henderson (NV) Findlay Prep, Nevada focuses on his three remaining official visits.

"He has straight A's," Markus Howard's mom Noemi Howard said. "He's taking six core classes and he's also taking an on-line class as well. An English course, so if he decides he's going to reclassify then he's ready to go, if he decides that in April."

Howard lists six schools as serious contenders: Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Marquette, University of Central Arkansas and UNLV. Arizona State was the first to receive an official while both Arizona and UNLV received unofficials.

"I don't think he will go back to those two," said Howard. "He has the option to, but I don't think there is a lot of time."

Officials are set for Marquette (Feb. 27-29), University of Central Arkansas (March 2-4) and Baylor (March 4-6). Indiana, which was scheduled to receive an official the weekend of Feb. 20, was cancelled.

With a list of high-major Division 1 programs, University of Central Arkansas seems like the odd school out in the mix, but don't count out the Bears as they have an advantage, and his name is Jordan.

A sophomore at Central Arkansas, the middle Howard averaged 15.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game last season while on his way to earning Freshman of the Year honors in the Southland Conference, despite UCA only managing two wins total for the 2014-15 seaso

John Calipari Visits With 2017 Big Man Nick Richards
https://www.sny.tv/college-recruiting/news/john-calipari-visits-with-2017-big-man-nick-richards/168491618?tcid=tw_article_168491618 ...

QuoteKentucky coach John Calipari visited with Nick Richards for about half an hour on Monday at Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick's High School.

Calipari has had success at St. Pat's, landing both Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Dakari Johnson from the New Jersey Catholic powerhouse that also produced former Duke star Kyrie Irving. Karl Anthony-Towns also played for St. Joe's-Metuchen in New Jersey.

Richards is a 6-foot-11 native of Jamaica who has only been playing organized ball for about three years. He remains pretty raw offensively but is a force in the paint defensively and has the frame and potential to have a bright career ahead.

"He just wanted to let me know he's interested in me improving," Richards told SNY.tv of Calipari. "He was just telling me about how he's going to get me better and put me on a stage to succeed."

Asked if he feels Calipari wants him, Richards said, "Yeah, he does."

Richards said he will likely visit Kentucky sometime during his senior season, possibly for Big Blue Madness.

"I can't give you a date but probably sometime during my senior year," Richards said.

Richards holds offers from the likes of Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, UConn, Villanova, Indiana, Syracuse, and UCLA...

NEW: John Calipari is already in a good spot with a likely McDonald's All-American in 2017. His coach is a fan of UK http://bit.ly/1Sp2a4j

QuoteChicago

Jack Doss — the head coach of the East team at this week's McDonald's All-American Game — had just finished talking about the three future Kentucky Wildcats on his squad when he grinned and alluded to another five-star basketball prospect.

"I think I've got the No. 1 junior in the country," he said. "In fact, he'll be here next year."

That player is John Petty, and he will almost certainly be a McDonald's All-American in 2017.

Earlier this month, Petty led J.O. Johnson High School to its second consecutive Alabama state title. The victory gave Doss a record nine state titles in his illustrious coaching career, and Petty has the potential to be his best player yet.

6-foot-6 shooting guard scored 34 points in the championship game and was a do-it-all player throughout the season, averaging 19.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He has also hosted UK Coach John Calipari at his high school on multiple occasions, maybe more than any other player in the recruiting class of 2017.

"Cal's already told me that he's a top priority," Doss said. "He's come down and talked to us and really showed us some love, and we feel that love."

Petty was the first player from the 2017 class to earn a scholarship offer from Calipari, who watched him at the Nike circuit stop in Lexington last April and extended the offer shortly after that.

Petty was a highly touted recruit at the time, but he was nowhere near the top of the rankings. Usually the first player in his class to get a UK offer is considered the best of the best by recruiting analysts [Skal].

As recruiting for the Class of 2017 cranks up, The second stop on Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League circuit will bring all 12 prospects with UK offers together just three hours from the Wildcats' campus in Indianapolis. Ten of them are ranked among the top 20 recruits including numbers one and two.

Quote"(Kentucky) used last weekend and this coming weekend to figure out exactly who they want to target going forward and, while they've been recruiting a lot of these guys, now they know who they're going to turn up their attention with and go after and try to get," said Evan Daniels, director of basketball recruiting for Scout. "After how they performed over the weekend, Mohamed Bamba, Hamidou Diallo and Kevin Knox, those guys are going to be at the top of their hit list."

But which 2017 players already have the Cats at the top of their lists?

"They seem to be ahead of the game with John Petty," said Daniels, referencing the 6-5 shooting guard from Alabama who is ranked 19th overall by Scout. "He's somebody they targeted early on and are in good position with. Outside of him, they're in on a bunch of guys but I don't think they're necessarily close to getting a commitment from any of them."

Perhaps that's why Kentucky is beginning to cast a wider net. Tremont Waters was the third 2017 prospect to get an offer from Calipari this week, although he doesn't fit the typical (high) profile for the Cats. The 5-11, 155-pound point guard from Connecticut is ranked 70th overall by Scout.

UK had previously only offered one point guard – Trae Young, rated No. 3 nationally at the position – so why Waters?

"He had a great weekend (to open the EYBL season) and looked like a completely different player from what I saw in the high school season," Daniels explained. "In the high school season, he played selfish and took wild, bad shots. When I saw him this past weekend, he played under control, made threes, put pressure on the defense, facilitated for others.

"This is a down point guard crop in 2017 and Tremont Waters came out last weekend and established himself as a player, so Kentucky took notice – as did a number of other schools, too."

That evaluation process continues this weekend in Indy...

In the world of high school basketball recruiting, the "package deal" has become a common phrase.

Top basketball recruits Porter and Young still talking UK and 'package deal'

QuoteMichael Porter Jr. and Trae Young — teammates with the Nike-affiliated Mokan Elite squad — have been talking about playing together at the next level for more than a year.

The two obviously have chemistry on the court. Young is one of the nation's top point guards and, until recently, the only class of 2017 recruit at the position with a UK scholarship offer. Porter — a versatile, 6-foot-8 wing — is considered one of the top-five players in the class and also earned an offer from UK early in the process.

Both players still have several schools on their lists. Both are serious about UK. And both are still talking about the package deal.

"We benefit from each other," Young said. "I make him look good, and he makes me look really good. He's a really good player. With him on the wing and me at the lead guard, I feel like we can do big things at the next level, too."

Kenny Payne, Avery Johnson and John Pelphrey are all in on John Petty's game today. Latest on his recruitment:

QuoteIndianapolis

John Petty was the first high school basketball prospect from the class of 2017 to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky, and his recruitment is shaping up as a two-team race between the Wildcats and his home-state school.

UK Coach John Calipari and Alabama Coach Avery Johnson both had in-home visits with Petty last week in Huntsville. Both coaches watched him play multiple times over the past couple of days at the Nike event in Indiana.

Both Calipari and Johnson have made the 6-foot-6 wing a major priority, and seemingly every other school has conceded that one of those coaches will land his commitment.

"I haven't really talked to anyone (else) lately," Petty said. "Those are really my two standouts right now."

For Calipari's next trick, he'll try to sign a(n-ex) QB

QuoteKevin Knox II knew The Talk was coming, and his father finally sat him down last summer to address the elephant-sized shoes in the room. Son, it's about your feet.

Knox was the starting quarterback at Tampa Catholic as a sophomore in 2014 and had already drawn college recruiting interest. He figured to follow in the footsteps of his father – also named Kevin – who played wide receiver for Florida State's 1993 national championship team.

The only problem with that was his dad's footsteps were increasingly smaller than his own.

"We both made an amicable decision together," said the elder Knox. "When you've got a size-18 shoe and you're 16 years old – Peyton Manning doesn't wear a size 18. Know what I mean? Cam Newton doesn't wear a size 18. And you're 16, still growing. He'll probably be 6-10 (with) a 19 or 20 shoe. That doesn't really equate necessarily to NFL quarterback. But those numbers do equate to a possible highest-of-the-high-level play in basketball."

And so ended Knox II's football career and launched him full-force into a basketball career that now finds him ranked no worse than the No. 7 overall prospect in the Class of 2017 by any of the major recruiting services. Duke and North Carolina jumped on him quickly, and last week Kentucky offered the 6-foot-8 small forward who claims a 7-foot wingspan.

QuoteAfter a strong first stop on the spring AAU circuit, five-star 2017 shooting guard Hamidou Diallo picked up a pair of major scholarship offers last week: Duke and Kentucky.

"Two great programs run by great coaches," Diallo said during the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League's second weekend in Indianapolis. "It's just a blessing. That's all I can really say. All the hard work I've been doing has been paying off."

Diallo is a 6-foot-5, 190-pound star at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut...

"Kentucky's pitch was just the NBA thing," Diallo said. "Duke's pitch was if you come to Duke, you're going to be set for life. It's more than just basketball. (John Calipari's) pitch was he gets guys ready for the next level. Look at the numbers: it shows. It's the best place for you if you want to make it to the NBA.

"Both pitches are appealing. It's just a hard decision. I've got a lot of schools recruiting me, a bunch of schools capable of taking me to the NBA."

Jerry Meyer, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, likes Kentucky's chances. On his site's "Crystal Ball," 9 of 10 recruitniks' predictions for Diallo favor the Wildcats.

"The word is that he coveted a Kentucky offer," Meyer said. "I think Kentucky is in a great position. Connecticut, because he's from that region, is strong with him. And then Duke offered, and any time Duke offers, you've got to take note, because Duke doesn't like to offer and not get a kid – I think maybe more than anyone."

As for Diallo's talent, he's ranked as high as No. 9 overall...

Second Evaluation Period Top Performers | Story: http://www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1664057-second-evaluation-period-top-performers ...

QuoteScout hoops recruiting team spent time in Suwanee, Ga., covering the adidas Gauntlet series and Indianapolis for the Nike EYBL and Under Armour Association this past weekend. Who stood out over the weekend?

Josh Anderson, a Louisiana native, looks taller, more athletic, and more skilled.
NC State and LSU are the two showing the most interest.

Jaren Jackson has been taking his game to a new level this spring with Spiece Indy Heat. The nearly 6-foot-10 power forward has the ability step out and shoot the ball while also being a potential shot blocker and rebounder down low.
Michigan State, Georgetown, Maryland, Alabama, Illinois and Stanford seem to be the schools showing the most consistent interest.

In the star studded EYBL, it is Mohamed Bamba who continues to assert himself as one of the best players on the circuit.
Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Villanova, Wake Forest, Kansas, and others are consistently at his games and seem to be showing a ton of attention.

Elias Harden is a wing with good size and length who impacts the game in multiple ways.
Harden listed Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, UAB, Cincinnati and North Florida as schools he's been in communication with.

Zion Williamson is a powerful and athletic forward who can score facing up and around the basket.
Williamson holds offers from LSU, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, NC State, Miami (Fl), Virginia, Florida, Clemson, Wofford and Tulane.

Nick Weatherspoon now leads the adidas Guantlet series in scoring at just over 25 points a game.
His brother Quinndary Weatherspoon was a freshman at Mississippi State this past season, so the Bulldogs are heavily involved. Iowa State, NC State, Indiana and Ohio State are involved. North Carolina called him for the first time this week and Louisville offered him a scholarship Sunday night.

QuoteIn the first month of this season's AAU circuit, Nick Weatherspoon's stock has surged.

The Velma Jackson four-star 2017 guard has dominated in recent weeks while playing for Omhar Carter's MBA Hoops.

Some of the best college basketball programs in the country noticed.

North Carolina, Louisville, NC State and Ohio State all recently extended offers to Weatherspoon.

The North Carolina offer is the most significant of the bunch.

"This is a really big offer because it is one of the top five programs in the nation," Weatherspoon said. "I am taking things real slow right now, but I know for a fact that North Carolina will be one of my top schools because, I mean, I don't know any guy that would have North Carolina off."

Weatherspoon also has offers from Mississippi State, where his brother Quinndary plays, and Ole Miss. Both in-state schools made home visits to Weatherspoon last month.

How does Weatherspoon view MSU and Ole Miss after gaining national attention?

"I try to keep them all the same because I know Mississippi State is like my hometown college and I just try to keep them at the same level," Weatherspoon said. "I know coach Ben Howland is a very good coach, especially with guards, and with my brother, there's a lot of good chemistry with him. With Ole Miss, too, they came for an in-home visit and I know coach Andy Kennedy is a good coach. So I try to keep all the colleges on the same level right now."

The expectation is for Weatherspoon to keep landing big-time offers. Kentucky recently watched Weatherspoon play and it would not be surprising if Duke followed North Carolina and extended an offer of its own.
