What does everybody think about his game and development?

I am a big fan of his.  I think he does a lot of little things that help us win games.  He is much more willing passer this year and knows where he should shoot from.  He hasn't taken a single three this year.  I also think he is one of our best defenders because he is so versatile.  He can guard almost every position.

That said, I have a few family members and friends that are less fond of him.  I was just curious what the consensus on the board was.

Those you are talking to probably still have the impression of him that was formed before this season when he was a liability when he was on the court.  This season he is a positive who has started to fill his role much better.  Like I said with Kingsley earlier today, Williams is "involved" when he is on the court.  You take the bad with the good this season as the good outweighs the bad now.

Today: 3-7 from the field, 6 rebounds, 4 assists to 2 turnovers, 3 steals in 20 minutes  3 fouls  His 7 FGA's were the second most today.  He is going to make an impact when he is in.  Some players disappear.

He's developed into a key rotation player for us;  we struggle at times, with the press, if his length isn't used to harass someone.     He's probably our 3rd best interior defense option, but will be more important than Kingsley, just because of the minutes distribution.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

He's not afraid to shoot.....but he is definitely improved over last season. I like his hustle and intensity, even if I question his shot selection/timing from time to time.

PonderinHog

I like what I'm seeing from him this year.  He seems to be playing more under control and he gets up and down the court as quickly as any player we have.   I hope he continues to improve on both ends of the court.

Good post. I agree with everything you said. He built up a reputation for being erratic and it is going to take some time to work that off.

Your right about him always being involved. I really like how he can get off that mid-range jumper with people on him and his passing from the high post against a zone is solid. He's big enough and has good enough hands that he is able to catch those high post passes and once he has it he is a threat to shoot and has to be respected. In my opinion, he's going to be key to us breaking down zone defenses going forward.

I'm really looking forward to watching him develop over the next two years. I think he could be really good by the time he is done at Arkansas.

Pig in the Pokey

His mid range J has been one of- if not the- best on the team this year.

These things are obvious to me:

The game has slowed for him. He is not rushing shots and playing out of control

He should be starting

He mid-range jumper is vastly improved

He can play just about every position on Defense depending on the man he is guarding

Somebody, anybody that talks to him...'Backboard Jacorey, backboard."  With his shot trajectory...backboard.  There is no shame in using it.

Dominicanhog

he took a few and missed some, but they were all good shots.. 10-12 feet and open, got to keep taking them..

Yeah....his shot is pretty flat.

Good point. I can't remember him trying to use the glass from mid-range. I'd like to see him try it.

PonderinHog

Now is not the time for him to change his shot.   ::)  He's hitting  a pretty good percentage this year, isn't he?

bigred223

Jacorey should be top 5 on the team in minutes per game without question based on what I've seen this year. He is a lot more comfortable out there and can do a little bit of everything.

Hogfaniam

He doesn't have to change his shot, just his aim.

How many lay ups you see the guys shoot that Don't use the backboard?  The theory is the same.

Tim Duncan can't be wrong.

He's vastly improved. Good for him. Good for us.

HogsBalls

He's the key to success. He can rebound and score on jumpers, plays good D and most importantly he doesn't jack up 3's.

That may be what this team need most.  Shots aren't always going to fall... But effort needs to be more consistent.

Dominicanhog

He and Jabril in the lineup make our D so much better... let Harris and Bell come of the bench and have a starting 5 of  Jabril, Jacorey, JaMichael, JaMadden and JaPortis.

opineonswine

He had improved a lot and yesterday was a very solid performance.

What you have to do is look at his overall contribution to the team.... offensively and defensively.... ask yourself is he a plus or a minus. To me he is the most improved player on the team and can be a difference maker. Just look at the stats for the season. He has always rebounded well. I especially appreciate players who work harder for offensive rebounds.  If anything he needs to improve on defense and move his feet better. That way you won't commit as many reach in fouls. He also needs to continue working on FT shooting. He needs to work on passing and assists.

porkinsons disease

Plays hard and under more control this year. Brings instant energy to the lineup.
This hiding behind he has a great recruiting classcoming in crap is just another excuse for this man. you could give this man M. Johnson and Larry Bird togather and he still would not win. he is a pitiful coach who can,t coach a lick.-fcj 1/22/2011

Not a bad suggestion for anyone. He or anyone needs an angle. He is doing just fine just squaring up and shooting....... Just don't want to see more than one dribble if taking it to the hole.

hogcam

A flat trajectory shot is not a good type of shot to use the backboard with.

bulldog04

His shot reminds me of Kareem Reid's

cableguy

I agree with all the posts except that Jacorey should change his shot and shoot off the back backboard more, he is shooting damn good right now. I think most of us are hoping he doesn't regress back to the old Jacorey and we will take how is playing right now all season long. Jacorey is the most improve player by far, he basically went from the 4 or fifth player off the bench to a possible starter.

The_Iceman

Jacorey is starting to limit his mistakes, which is making him a much more efficient player. He fits this system perfectly and has bought in.

That give and go between him and Portis at the end of the game was a thing of beauty.

cableguy

His shot doesn't have much arch, but he making a high percentage of them anyways. I feel that during the season is not the proper time to mess with his shot, when he is making them. Now, Alandise Harris free throws on the hand might need to be tweak, his free throws come off like skud missiles.

Cresthog

Besides Portis, he makes more smart basketball plays than anyone on the team.

He had a couple of pass Chris Paul would be proud of against Dayton. He's becoming a favorite of mine just because people like to root against him because he's got an ugly shot.

We should sign another in the next class or two I hope.
