Great to see Portis getting the praise he deserves.  He had a really good preseason and I hope he carries it over to the regular season of play.  He play with grit, determination, and any fan base he plays for is going to love the way he plays, truly a player that slipped through the cracks on draft day and now opposing Organizations are wondering how they overlooked him.

Portis did not play in tonight's season opening win for Chicago. The given reason was the always favorite "coaches decision".

Gets another DNP tonight.  I would expect a lot of them, barring injury.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

yea, by the way the pre-season went i thought he was going to be at least like a 6th man and get significant minutes. Interesting for sure.

The Bobby Portis we all know will give Hoiberg a reason to have to play him at some point this season. He will continue to work hard everyday and be an energy spark in practice, the locker room, etc. NBA season is a long one and injuries, rest, and the ever so favorite "personal matters" happen and cause players to miss games. BP's number will be called at some point and he will be ready.  He will take advantage of any and every amount of time he gets.

Too many proven players ahead of him, though.

Pretty much everyone said the only way BP gets significant minutes this year is if the Bulls decide to do something with Taj.

He's living his dream and getting paid good money to play pro basketball.  He'll get his chance to play.  Until then, he's still getting paid to play basketball...

Exactly. Still made the right choice to turn pro.

After two games and seeing the stat lines of those playing on the bench ahead of him, how has this kid not seen the floor for even one minute?! I'm a Bobby homer and fringe NBA fan, but even I can see that BP could produce 7 and 5 just on hustle.

There's no spot for him in the rotation right now. Mirotic, Gasol, and Noah are all better/bring more value at this time. Gibson is also probably better but it's more debatable. This is where any playing time should come from, but I'm not sure Bobby would be contributing any more than Gibson. Gibson's a vet, and if they want to trade him, they have to play him.

Pre Season is the Pre Season.... Its there to get the rookies a chance to play at the NBA speed.  He will continue to develop and get stronger and more confidence in his game and will be a producer.  Maybe not his 1st year but he is on a team with a lot of talent.  Lots of All Stars on this team.  He just needs to keep the right attitude and he will play in the NBA a long time.

Rotations matter-- and the season is long.    If you want to see Portis minutes, your best bets are going to be in 4 game/5 day stretches, or back to backs on the road,  or if the Bulls make a move at the deadline.

They have four or five highly productive NBA front court players, who have proven themselves in the league.   They're going to ease Bobby in,  if they play him much at all.

No way Portis was going to get many minutes with the players the Bulls have in front of him.
And that's OK - Portis will learn tons and become a better player just practicing with these guys.
He'll get to play some this year - the NBA season is long.

Given the wear and tear on their bodies, Noah and Gasol will get hurt at some point during the season. Bobby will get to play more and more as the season goes along.

I don't believe he has played a second yet...

Not yet, no.   He's logged 4 DNPs in Chicago's 4 games.

This is what I expected from what I heard.  I had an acquaintance spend three days with Bulls in preseason observing practice, and Hoiberg told him that he was really pleased with Bobby but it was really deep with vets at his position.

Pretty cool write-up on Portis from Fox Sports and the Chicago Tribune.

QuoteBulls rookie Bobby Portis has yet to play during his first two NBA games, but head coach Fred Hoiberg said it's only a matter of time before he eventually gets his shot.

Quote
"We're absolutely confident with Bobby giving us minutes," Hoiberg said. "There are going to be times over the course of the year when he plays even with all our bigs healthy."

Hoiberg said he talked with Portis on Monday, basically telling him to stay ready. Portis averaged a double-double during the preseason.

"He handled everything like a pro, and he's going to continue to work hard," Hoiberg said. "He understands the situation. And he's learning from some great veterans. Joakim has really taken him under his wing."

Portis said he appreciated Hoiberg's communication.

"Young players have to work their way in," Portis said.

Portis is the only change to the Chicago roster from a season ago, and as the year goes on and Hoiberg tinkers with his rotations, you can expect that Portis will get the chance to earn himself a regular spot in the rotation.
