Would like to see a mod sticky a Texas Bowl tailgating thread.  My son and I will be there and would love to hang out with some of my old Hogville peeps and meet some new ones.

Go Hogs!    ::hornsdown::

Consider it done. As soon as I can get them to go over to Tailgate Central, located below Horse Racing and above Fairways and Greens, it will get done. Wayne runs that outfit over there and he seems to pick and choose what gets stickied and whatnot, but I'll dang sure put in a good word for  you cause I think we need that. It'll make this a better place to be. Stay away from Jump Ball. They cray cray up in there.

I bought a space in the Blue lot. Need some Hog fans to join me! The area around the stadium is great for tailgating, and Houston has pretty amazing December weather.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the costs associated with a typical space?

Around $80. Best way is through Stubhub. Most of the slots go to annual Texas Bowl ticket holders, but since those are mostly corporations or rich people who don't actually go to the game, they are all sold on Stubhub. Blue lot is probably the best location in terms of being in the center of the action, but others are good, as well.

Thanks, H.T.  I forgot about that forum.  I'll hit Wayne up as well.  He may already have plans to do it.

We plan on starting early since we are staying walking distance from the stadium.

The tailgate central board is a mostly a foodie/culinary board. Be better to sticky it here if you truly want it seen.

Ah, ya'll don't worry about anyone giving you a hard time. Tell the good Reverend sent you and NOBODY will touch you. Hell, you may get a free drink out of it.

I just bought a parking pass in the Blue Lot this morning for about $35.00 with all the fees included.  Ordered direct from the Advo Care Texas Bowl web site and printed it out.

From what I have heard, you can not enter the stadium parking lot till 4 hours before game time.  I have heard that tailgating sucks there.

I can't confirm the 4 hour rule but I do know that tailgating before Texans game at the stadium is a huge deal.  Lots of big tailgate setups with smokers, busses, trailers, etc.  It is a really big party.

Hope you are right.  I have never been to a Texans game so just going by what I was told by a friend that lives in the area.

I have been to Texans games and witnessed it first hand. I don't know that it will transfer to the bowl tailgating scene, just relaying my experience at the stadium.

I'm in the green lot. It plainly states that parking will open 4 hours before the game time on the pass.

HoginHouston

I am a little confused by the four-hour rule. It appears to be legitimate, and all parking passes say clearly that you have to wait until four hours before kickoff to enter.

However, the Texans have an awesome tailgating scene that starts well before four hours until kickoff. Why the separate rule for the bowl game? I have no idea.

Found this on the Advocare Bowl website. I edited to what I though was pertinent info:

TAILGATING POLICY

Tailgating Policy
We strongly encourages fans to take advantage of tailgate opportunities at all of its college football games. We want all fans at NRG Stadium to have the finest tailgating experience possible, so we have established a few guidelines to make your tailgating party great:

All Parking lots (unless otherwise noted) will open four hours prior to kickoff.

Parking is first-come, first-served for the first hour; saving spots will not be allowed. If you would like to tailgate near friends, please arrive together.

NRG Stadium entrance gates will open 90 minutes prior to kickoff.

Tailgating will be limited to one 8'x 16' space for each valid parking hangtag, and must not cross over into the drive lane designated by the blue lines down each aisle.

RV's, buses, and oversized vehicles will need to pre-purchase a minimum of two parking spots and need to park in the designated RV areas in each lot.

If you plan to extend sides or set chairs outside of your RV or Bus you will need parking hangtags in addition to the ones for the space that will be used by your vehicle.

Barbecues in tow will also be required to have an additional pre-purchased hangtag. You will not be allowed to buy one at the gate.

No Music system speakers may exceed 18" tall and 12" wide
Music speakers may not produce sound greater than 68 decibels in accordance to the City of Houston sound ordinance Sections 30.1-30.9

Liquid charcoal starter or other flammable liquids are strictly prohibited. Charcoal may be started with an electrical starter designed for this purpose or quick starting charcoal is recommended. Open flames are allowed but all barbecue pits left unattended must be extinguished.
Ash containers, trash containers and port-o-lets are located in each lot.
Hot ashes, cinders, smothering coal, disposable LP-gas cylinders or other hot materials must be disposed of in the Orange dumpsters only.

Trash must be disposed of the in the Green dumpsters only.

For safety purposes, all tents, chairs, etc. must be put away before entering NRG Stadium.
In order to ensure the safety of our fans, no golf carts, Segways, motorized coolers, skateboards, bicycles, or large balloons will be allowed for use by fans in the parking lots.

All cooking equipment shall be situated away from crowds, buildings, vehicles or combustible materials. A minimum clearance distance of 3 feet is required.
A minimum class 2A-10B:C fire extinguisher with a current service tag is required at each cooking area.
LP-gas cooking appliances shall be UL listed and approved for use. LP-gas cylinders shall be secured in an upright position to keep from falling and positioned to prevent impact from vehicle traffic. Portable generators are not to be filled while running and fuel must be in a UL listed safety can (2 gal. max). Portable generators and fuel must be stored away from cooking appliances.

Guests are welcome to continue tailgating up to one hour after the end of the game. However, in some instances guests may be asked to clear the parking lots before that time.
Any violation of the fire safety regulations will be subject to citations being issued by the City of Houston Fire Inspector.
For any further information regarding these guidelines or any other questions on the day of the game please call 832-667-1400.
