for preparing one for the NBA.  If you are saying the NBA IS A STRUCTURED SETTING YOU ARE CRAZY!

Portis was just quoted on this. He says it is MORE structured.

CMA's style is perfect for winning a little over half his conference games, his record at Mizzou and here both, right at 53%.
I said...LSU has often been an overrated team.

That ignoramus Draconian Sanctions said..if we're overrated, why are we ranked higher than you are?

Both were rebuilding jobs. Tom Crean is in his 8th year at Indiana and is still about 15 games under .500 there. Rebuilding is rough.

And Crean is about to be shown the door according to many.

If you have some form of mental retardation i will stop making fun of you, just want to clarify this first.

Crean is 22-6 this season.  In his fourth and fifth seasons at IU, he went to back to back Sw16's.  He started off at a lower point than did Anderson at Arkansas.
Quote from: MaconBacon on March 22, 2018, 10:30:04 amWe had a good run in the 90's and one NC and now the whole state still laments that we are a top seed program and have kids standing in line to come to good ole Arkansas.  We're just a flash in the pan boys.

He was on the hot seat coming into the season. He should have no issues now

Indiana had been in the championship game in the decade before Crean. Kelvin Sampson was winning 74% of his games when he was fired and Crean took over 7 games later. Yes they had NCAA sanctions but they hadn't been an irrelevant program for over a decade. They had 2 All Americans on the same team the year before Crean took over.

I wish MA had inherited a mess like that instead of ours.

Anderson at least inherited more than a couple of walkons.

I would rather start from zero scholarship players with program credibility and national relevance than have to start with a mediocre scholarship roster and a program that hasn't been in the Sweet 16 since '96 any day.

Lol..so in Crean's 4th & 5th seasons, they go to the sweet 16?  Wow!  Rebuilding wasn't so rough for them apparently.

First 3 years they didn't even win more than 12 games

After the defections before he got started, he started with a couple of walkons and otherwise an entirely new roster.

Makes it easier to recruit when you have that much playing time to offer at a winning program.

ChicoHog

Anderson's style of defense does not prep for NBA.  Most NBA teams do not trap and press much.  Most NBA players, especially guards, need to learn to play straight up man to man with help principles.  Most NBA defenses don't have their guards playing in your face 35 feet from the basket so the offensive player can go right around them.

Bingo. You hit it right on the head.   That's why after we won 27 games, won an NCAA game, opened a brand new practice facility and lost 4 starters we had all those player falling all over themselves to come play here.

Here was not a rebuilding job.  Not even close to it.

Seriously?
I think I misunderstood your statement.  You saying this season isn't a rebuilding job or the program as a whole wasn't?

Pork Twain

He said that MA coming here was a rebuilding job and that is not the case.  He both had talent on the roster and a very talented class lined up.  Recruiting players already on the roster and new players falls on the coach

He had
Farmar
Scott
Wade
Clarke
Waithe
Powell

His ready made class included
Madden
Abron
Young
Mickelson

His first class included 4 projects.

His second class included two players

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=lc-carpenter_indiana_tom_crean_turnaround_031212

"It was spring of 2008 and Indiana's basketball team officially was broken, and since most high school seniors already had signed or committed to colleges, there was no one to recruit. The few still available had little interest in a school beginning three years of NCAA probation and had a roster with two players."

"Still, the coaches watched the tapes, just in case someone had missed something – a clever dribbler, a smooth jump shooter, anything to give them another player to put in an Indiana uniform. More than 300 players showed up on unofficial visits that year. Most had no shot at playing in the Big Ten, but given the circumstances, how could anyone at Indiana say no? Halfway through the season, Crean still was trying out students who said they could play basketball, eventually giving uniforms to a student manager and a player on Indiana's baseball team."

I have literally never heard that take, can't say I agree with it at all.  But I see why our perceptions differ now!
