Quote from: bjeffersonhog on Today at 07:20:55 pmI see a lot of people saying Thiero is the reason he's not coming. I'm not sold that he was the decision that caused this.  I think it might have more to do with how the staff feels about Pryor and that pushed Burks even farther down the bench.

It may be that Burks was hoping he'd have Thiero's spot in the rotation and when that didn't happen, he went with an offer that would net real playing time. I'm just assuming here as I have no knowledge of what Georgetown has lined up on the wing. But Burks was believed to have been a silent commit the whole time and we still have about 6 scholarships left to fill so there is room for Burks, Pryor, Wagner and more. Even if we say Cal's cut off for scholarships is 10, those 3 still fit within that. It is either Burks tired of waiting and feels like he will get more minutes at GU or Cal has better plans in mind for the spot Burks had silently committed to.

Quote from: OldCoot on Today at 05:23:44 pmSMU got the death penalty for buying players back in the day, now that's it's legal they say, "hey, hold my beer".

I'm old enough to remember SMU high flier days.

Quote from: Mike_e on Today at 05:46:22 pmMercs are seldom loyal to anyone except themselves.  There is a lot to be said for players that will fix bayonets, charge and damm the cost.

I suspect that we've already seen a season tanked by mercs here.

What lured Kelly to BR? His Famuhlee boudain recipe?

Quote from: codeHog on Today at 12:33:24 pmAre not going to be teams until the coaches get them in the gym together.

Miss taught us a lesson last season about building a roster and making it work as a team..are not the same thing

The portal era means this will happen often

If a team has 4 or 5 returning starters in today's world, they might win a a lot

Cal is going to find out fast if he still has the fire to make a machine out of the many parts

This is the one and only concern I have about Cal.

But it seems to me that he is already embracing the portal more than he had at UK.

I think he makes it work.

Quote from: hawgfan4life on Today at 11:13:10 amIt is hard to win a regional, even more a super regional, and exponentially harder to win a national championship.  Perspective is a state of mind.  To many fans of other teams, should Arkansas make a run in the CWS, it will seem normal and what they would have expected.  Should we lose, they will chalk it up to we simply had a bad couple of games.  It will be no different for other programs.  Every year at this time, there are teams that start getting hot and others that start slipping.  In the end, virtually every fan base minus a handful will feel they failed at something and they will be wringing their hands and upset how it ended.  AR is at a level we feel that way every season because every season we have aspirations of being in the CWS and or winning the CWS.  It is getting to crunch time now and we will finish however we finish.  Players have been coached and prepared for this moment.  I trust AR players to step it up and finish well.  Hopefully, they build momentum through the last two series and then through the regionals.  There is a razor thin line between winning and losing for the top teams.  I don't know of any teams I would want to trade players or situations for.  This teams seems to almost always answer other teams runs with a few more of our own.  While not seeming to be a great hitting team, this team has hit well in more situations than most realize.  As for pitching, that has been a strength all year and there is no reason to believe it will falter now.  In fact, we have a few stepping up recently that can help us down the stretch.  I like our situation right now more than I would if we were rolling and sitting at #1.  We have players focused on getting better and coaches focused on pushing us to get better because they all know we have the pieces in place to make a run for a NC.  Players and teams rarely get better after winning.  We have been really good all year, if we get a spark and improve now, we can be great.

Quote from: PorkRyan on May 06, 2024, 09:20:48 amI expect we will end up 20-10, but what happens at 19-11?  Not sure we get to host and it may come down to us and MSU in that scenario.  We need to win that series this weekend because they get Missouri next weekend.

No way we don't host at least a regional at 19 wins. I still think our Rpi would be very high if only won 2 more games this year.

Quote from: MtnHog2005 on Today at 07:06:25 pmHart went to Ball State out of the portal. Right level for h8m. He did win the team dunk contest as a 6'5" guard. He was equivalent to Pinion.

He probably is an exception to having a scholarship.

When creating the thread probably should have left the word scholarship out and just focus on how many players get quality minutes? As you point out Hart wasn't getting quality minutes but probably providing Cal the hustle he needed during practice. Akin to the football practice squad that is vital in preparing the team.
