Advocare V100 Texas Bowl. Dec 29. Houston. Why? Because those who are predicting Texas vs the Aggies aren't going to get that game, and the SEC knows the Hogs travel well, especially in the state of Texas, and more so because we can't stand Texas.

Go Hogs.

I would love to see us get that bowl as opposed to the Liberty. Perfect showcase for recruiting in Texas, twice the payout of the Liberty Bowl and if I am not mistaken, it is played indoors.

Correct. It's at NRG Stadium.

PonderinHog

I live in the Memphis MMA, but Houston, against  ::hornsdown::  makes a lot of sense to me.

How about Hogs win. Texas wins tonight. Bama wins. Miss St wins. And Arkansas and Texas meet in the Cotton Bowl

BorderPatrol

I would love to see this. Our DFW metroplex recruiting is starting to recover under Jennings and Michael Smith but Thomas could use a bump in the Houston area against the Aggies. Nutt decimated our DFW recruiting and Petrino did not do much to help, but Jennings and E.K. Franks are repairing it. We could use some help in Central Texas and Houston, and a week in Houston would sure help, especially if we could beat the snot out of Charley and the Whore'ns.

Definitely wouldn't hold a breath on a UA/UT matchup in Dallas for a bowl after this season. While it would be a great draw, there's no way that either team is going to have the record to justify this level of bowl. Sorry.......

PonderinHog

Houston ain't that far from Louisiana, either.

I think the opponent and time slot mean more to our recruiting than location.  10-15 years ago location mattered more.  How many recruits will actually attend the game if it is in Houston?   One maybe two.  I understand the local media will cover the game, but high school kids watch ESPN not channel 8 news.

A quality match up at a prime time will attract the eyes of recruits on then the location.  I don't want a slot in the middle of the day on New Year's Eve when every one is working.  A New Year's Day bowl game or one that occurs at 7-8 pm on a day the ends with "y" on ESPN would be better.

The game is at 8:00 P.M. on ESPN on a Monday night. Whether the kids attend the game is not the biggest thing. What is really important is that we will be there all week before the game. Kids and their coaches will be able to attend practices after Christmas after they have had their Christmas faimily get togethers. Our coaches will be able to host said kids and coaches, plus possibly slip in a few visits. Texas will too, but they will anyway.

Recruits would not be in school and many are off work on New Years Eve.  Texas vs Arkansas at Reliant/NRG would be epic!  Houston area alone probably 150 D1 recruits.  Razorback fans should show in force.  Would love to see that and to reward our team by going to a new and different world class stadium.

I like this one better since Dallas is closer to our Hog base.

MuskogeeHog, I would rather play Texas in Memphis.  I like our current recruiting strategy of getting the top in-state talent while hitting up South Florida and Louisiana. Two or Three guys from Texas is okay when the South Florida and Louisiana talent are ready to play as true freshman. Make sure to not let top recruits out of Arkansas. Keep a wall around the state Muskogee. Also Oklahoma and Texas recruits would number about the same. The three areas to most address are top Arkansas talent, South Florida talent, Louisiana talent
Sprinkled in are some recruits from Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and other states.

Like I stated in another thread, 30 minutes from home and I can take a dozen aggie clients who will be doing a woo pig sooie all captured on film.  How much better does it get?

It just makes sense. The Advo Bowl is interested in Texas. We know the SEC won't allow the Aggies to play them. The SEC knows that Hog fans will want to see this matchup and will travel and spend dollars to do it.

Payout does matter as explained here:

"For the 2012-13 fiscal year, the SEC will distribute approximately $289.4 to its members".

"Under the revenue distribution plan, SEC member institutions will receive an average payout $20.7 million.  On top of that payout, SEC institutions will also see additional payouts from the conference.  The $20.7 million average payout doesn't include the $14.1 million split amongst the SEC's 2012-13 bowl game participants (all SEC programs except Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee)".

More bowl money means bigger shares.

Go Hogs.

Only if we lose tomorrow.  If we win, it will be The Music City, Outback or Gator.

That's an interesting collection of games there, and I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just curious why you think that. I wouldn't think the Music City would be in the same sentence with Outback and Gator. I just think that even if we win Geography is more important (ie why we would go to Texas or yes, even Music City) to the PTB slotting SEC teams. My rationale for why not Music City is that the payout differential between it and the Texas Bowl is minimal in sports dollars and that the matchup with Texas would be very juicy. However, if your thoughts of Outback or Gator are correct then I will do cartwheels no matter who we play.

Regardless, I'd rather win tomorrow and have to travel further for a bigger payout. Go Hogs!

I think a lot of where we go hinges on how we win tomorrow and not if we win.  If we come out tomorrow and hand their heads back to them, we'll garner a lot more respect.  3 shut outs in a row against top level opponents, will make people really take notice.

If we lose, I think we'll drop into the Texas, Belk or Independence.

Texas will likely play LSU in the Houston bowl .    Lots of LSU fans will travel and spend lots of dolllars.

That's also what I believe.  Again, I believe if we win with authority tomorrow, we're going to a Florida bowl.

RockyMtnHog

I can see the SEC office matching us with Texas if it happens.  The stadium would sell out with Hog fans and an old rivalry would be renewed.  Of course the Shorthorns do not want any part of the Hogs right now.

Texas is getting handled by TCU so far-- it'll be a downgrade for Arkansas, to play this lowly Texas team, unless we lose tomorrow;  we shouldn't accept a matchup so beneath us.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

hogoffate

I don't care about playing Texas in their backyard.  If the two conference offices want to match us up that's fine.  Just do it in another bowl.

that's not the way I would have said it, but yea... we are going big time if we win...think bigger.. Texas is a year away but I bet Charlie builds it the same way as CBB.. big, strong, smash mouth, both sides of the ball...  I think that style, with Texas talent, could whip all of these run and shoot pansies in the B12-2+2-1...WPS

I'll take Houston. Only 30 minutes from the house.
