Has arrived!

Say what you want about the first 2 losses, but Ky Madden has been playing VERY good basketball.  We're a completely different team when he's on the court running things.  Soon as he leaves the game that's when the other team made their runs.  You almost have to play him 35 minutes a game to be competitive.  The other guards....... I don't know what to say, we almost get nothing from that position.  And I've been the optimistic one defending them.  Bell gets hot from time to time but other than that... I don't know what to say.

I'm making a prediction now and saying Anton Beard will start from day 1 alongside Madden.

Breems

Sorry that this post will be ruined soon, but this is definitely a talking point.

He could be the key to getting this season back on track and picking up some wins on the road. Madden and Portis are becoming the heart of this team. If only we could retrieve Qualls from Davy Jones' locker...

Adam Stokes

He was clutch the whole game.  Probably would've been similar if he got the last shot.

Hogimus Prime

He's been playing good.

hogman99

Blu, I agree that Madden has really stepped up his game.

I wish I could agree with you on who will/should play, but I don't think that will happen.

Hawg Red

Hard to find joy in it when we're losing.

Speedracer

Hey, double zero deserves much love and respect for that performance.  That's the best game I think he's played since he's been on campus.  Was impressed with him
Like smites bother me.

HawgnCorona

Yep, his play is just about lights out, how refreshing...

Arky

Ky is impressive. Needs some help & team needs a break.

Good thread blu.  Madden deserves this as it will be a sea of rants and negativity(justified mostly) otherwise.
Quote from: MaconBacon on March 22, 2018, 10:30:04 amWe had a good run in the 90's and one NC and now the whole state still laments that we are a top seed program and have kids standing in line to come to good ole Arkansas.  We're just a flash in the pan boys.

arkansasrazorback

He has been amazing.  Too bad that is the only positive on the whole team.

Big Nasty 34

Fellas, if Mike plays like he did the first 10 games, we're a tourney team. But we haven't seen him in 3 weeks, so...

He will be there until he can learn the in-between game.

But for the sake of this post Im am still think that we have a good team and we will make the dance. We just have to get all the pieces working at the same time.

apcapri

Great play by Ky as of late. Hoping it continues.

I've been Madden's harshest critic, since the day he stepped on campus.

No one, and I mean no one,  did more today.     He showed up every single time, every single possession, played through some awful switches forced on him by teammates,  tried to take the game on his shoulders in OT (and darn near pulled out a hopeless situation),  and did absolutely everything you look for in  team leader.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Portis has to shoot better....6-16 today, a 6-10 man needs to be at least 50%; do that and you win this game

A lot of those were missed putbacks.

root_hawg

Even more to the point; you play a non-conf schedule where he is being guarded by 6-6 and 6-7 and then you get bigger more muscled guys and he gets pushed around a bit

For the first time ever I seen Portis nervous.... he was really nervous. That's why CMA put Harris in for his place late in the game.  Mike tried to calm him down in OT before those 2 free throw shots, but you could see it on his face.  But, I think the large crowd, the pressure of a top 10 team, kinda got to him today.  Good thing about it is, it's experience for him now, hopefully he learned from it.

I thought he had nerves early against TAMU as well, and never found his rhythm; fortunately, you see growth within his game constantly, and he'll learn from today, like the great players do.  He played stretches of inspired, team oriented basketball-- tipping contested key rebounds to teammates, attacking the basket and offensive glass when the rest of the team went passive, and tried to light some fire under his teammates.

You wish he hit his FT.   You wish that one more of those put backs in regulation would have fallen-- but really, getting as much as we are from him, is a testament to the strength of his game.

You can see the quality in Portis but also the mistakes of the Freshman.  Madden did play well today.  Truth is every player worth suiting up should know better than to take an off balance 25 footer with 20 seconds left in the possession or to take the ball to the basket down 3 with 5 seconds left.  Every player should work daily on his freethrows until its automatic.  We were just bad under real pressure.

Madden is doing fine offensively. Sorry guys but Winbikin or whatever their PG's name is, was schooling Madden left and right. Madden still is a liability on the defensive end and that was another thing they hyped him up when he was a 4 star that he plays excellent defense. He is a JR and I still don't see it

Think his size hinders him when he has to play really quick point guards; really probably need him to match on the 2

They usually do, particularly with driving PGs.

Madden certainly looks like he is developing. I agree with the hope this brings for his senior season.
