Well one can only hope that Jessica Jackson will commit and actually sign letter of intent because this team sucks. Tom Collen needs to grow a pair and go after the top recruits. We are getting our ***** kicked and I am tired of it. I'm tired of hearing people say that no one wants to come play at Arkansas. But be realistic about it no one wanted to play at Texas A&M before Gary got there. No one wanted to play at Connecticut before Geno got there and no one wanted to play at Baylor before Kim got there. NO MORE EXCUSES. I'm tired of all of the excuses. If Tom Collen is considered one of the nations best recruiters I can't tell. Hell the players can't even put ball in the basket. Tom Collen and the Razorbacks should have turned the corner by now. Another things I hate. Stop playing these cupcake team in the non conference it doesn't help matters any.

Go a pair coach. Have a nice day

The cause and the effect of this story is that Gary Blair's contract should have been renewed - the reason is Bev Lewis and the then Chancellor John White
did not renew his contract.   Tom Collen should be fired as I post these words on January 20, 2013.  Hire Kim Mulkey of Baylor to revise the program and SHE WILL WIN FOR THE LADYBACKS - ARKANSAS' WOMEN.

It is much harder to go after top recruits in women's basketball than it is in men's basketball.

I'm not sure I understand your post. Are you suggesting that Collen and the staff aren't actually TRYING to recruit the top players? Because that's ridiculous. I completely understand if you are frustrated that they aren't having better success with top players, because, well, that's obviously a fact. I would like to see recruiting improve.

He's one year removed from being SEC COY, however. It's not like he can't actually coach. This was going to be a rebuilding year from the jump, and they shouldn't have lost to Auburn or let UGA come back. But it's not exactly like the season is over, either. They were 0-4 in conference last year. Let's just see what happens.

Oh, and can we please stop the "Just go hire Kim Mulkey!!!" stuff? Because not going to happen. Why didn't Jeff Long hire Urban Meyer or Nick Saban?

Westcoasthog

psycHOGLogist you do not understand the Athletic Director goes after the
top coach for the program to succeed.

I was just using Kim Mulkey as an example. We can not keep making excuses for him nor for anyone else at Arkansas. How much longer do we have to wait

wbbfan32

You all were saying this same stuff last year and what happened? We went on a hot streak and made the NCAA Tournament! Hopefully the same will occur this year

You do not understand that you can go after the top coach all you want, but you are wasting your time. Why not Geno Auriemma? Why not Tara Vandeveer? C. Vivian Stringer? Hell, why not Rick Pitino? The chances for any of them are the same: zero. They are all firmly established at their schools -- which they have built -- and are not going anywhere.

Sueie

What part does Amber Shirey have on the team?  Is she over recruiting or what?

hog63

Could we please stop bring up Gary Blair!!!!! Gary is a GREAT coach and was a GREAT leader for our program. I'm not sure exactly what happened but if I have learned anything in life it's that you will always have two sides to the story.

In regards to Gary and how he is a better coach than Collen. I'm not sure but I would bet if you looked back you would find that they match up pretty closely in winning % in SEC games. When Gary was he he was always middle to lower end of the pack and he recruited about the same caliber of athlete. When he went to A&M he is now able to get any kind of athlete he wants from one of the most rich states in the country in regards to recruits and he plays a completely different type of basketball that he did when he was here because he has the horses.

Again Gary Blair is a great coach and I was thrilled that he won a title but not sure that he was any better here at Arkansas than Collen is now.

hog63

Amber has been Director of Basketball Operations for several years but is now back on the floor coaching for the first time this year. Great Lady

Are you serious?  Blair took team to the Final 4, Collen finally sniffed an NCAA last year.  We also won women's NIT and even though it was all on home court it was still a title.

I would also argue that SEC was much tougher league when Blair was here.

Collen's teams follow a very predictable pattern, run up good non-con records and then flame out in conf play.  It looked like he was finally getting over the hump last year, but now that looks more like an abberration.

Blair also put a good product on the court.  Attendance was at an all time high during his last few years here.  Now it's just as sad as the 90% of womens programs in the country.

You can argue that Collen isn't bad but do not argue that he is anywhere close to Blair or what Blair did here.  He is what I think he is.  Suzie Sweater Vest.
Little known fact, but prior to settling on Guantanamo, the Pentagon wanted to house terror suspects at War Memorial Stadium.  It was deemed to be cruel and unusual punishment and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

hog63

I am very serious. Go back and look at his SEC record, go back and look at his recruiting classes, and look at old game film. He played alot like Collen does now.

NO way can you take away his Final Four run but go back an look at the bracket. We were a lower seed that after our first win we were to play No. 1 seed Stanford who got upset in the first round by I believe Hawaii who would have been a 16 seed I think. So we win that one then if I'm not mistaken our next game was with another surprise opponent that had pulled the upset, we then just beat Duke which was another upset.

Again I take nothing away for Gary Blair he was a Great coach and ambassador for the program but what he was able to accomplish on the basketball court AT Arkansas is very similar to what Collen has done. When he went to A&M he now has the racehorses to really get after you up and down the floor which he didnt' have here thus he didn't play that way.

If I'm wrong I will gladly admit it but if you look at the fact on paper and on gamefilm I think I'm right.

Did they lose AGAIN?

wbbfan32

Yes we lost but played a team that will likely be in the top ten this week in South Carolina. Lost by 3 points and had our chances to win. The girls worked hard but didn't knock down shots. This one wasn't on Coach Collen

How about on the referees - one of the worst refereed game that I have seen in years!  When your leading scorer plays about 10 minutes with dumb referree fall calls and is 0 for 2 from the field - to then only loose by three with a chance to tie several times down the stretch - how is this the Coach's fault?

hog63

Clear example of the higher ranked team being protected. It was awful the lopsided calls

Sueie

That is why I quit attending ladyback games.  I do not want to get escorted out for telling a referee that he SUCKS!!!!!

During the A&M game they had to review about half of the calls that they made. Then they STILL got them wrong.

luvmybike

Every team has some talent.  this Lady Razorbacks fit that bill.  our football team proved that coaching REALLY DOES MATTER.   it's not about having talent, it's will players play for that coach? is practice run in a manner to prepare for games?  are the players getting better in their weak areas?  these are the nuances that differentiate coaches.

rkb555

I'd like to know why is it every year with the rare exception, women basketball cannot compete in the sec. We are the mirror of vandy in football and even that program is starting to turn around but every year, ark occupies somewhere at the bottom.

In the words of Judge Smails. "The world needs ditch diggers too". About sums up lady back sports for the past decade +. Softball, basketball, volleyball, even soccer.  Mediocre to Terrible.  I guess gym backs are the exception. Maybe track.

psycHOGLosist can you understand ENGLISH? Jeff Long needs to hire
Kim Mulkey at Baylor or bring Gary Blair back to Arkansas from Texas A&M.

hog63

West,

What part of "IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN" do you not understand. Those high level coaches will not come here for two reasons.

1. They are not going to leave their established program making the money they are making.

2. Jeff Long is NOT going to pay the type of $'s it would require to get these type coaches in a non revenue generating sport. He just will not do it.

What makes you think Mulkey would leave Baylor? That program is HER baby. She built it from the ground up. If LSU couldn't get her - Arkansas doesn't stand a chance. She's not a job hopper. Played and coached at LA Tech for many, many years.
Can't see Blair ever coming back to coach here after the way he was treated.

We do not need Gary Blair.  To stinking arrogant.  Let him stay at A&M or anywhere else in Texas with the rest of the "Nose in the Air" crowd.

We need someone who can recruit and someone who will shoot the ball, if they are wide open.

Who we don't need is Bev Lewis who ran Gary Blair off.

Chancellor White was actually behind it. He forced Bev's hand.
