Ole Miss QBs have had a recent run of success against Alabama, now Shea Patterson will step into the batter's box against the Tide.

OXFORD — In 2014, Good Bo Wallace threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns in Ole Miss' upset win over Alabama.

Chad Kelly followed that with 762 passing yards and six touchdown passes in two games against the Crimson Tide.

Shea Patterson has taken Kelly's mantle and will attempt to continue the recent trend of Ole Miss quarterback success when the Rebels (2-1) face No. 1 Alabama Saturday night in Tuscaloosa (8 p.m., ESPN).

Patterson played in front of 100,000-plus fans on the road against Texas A&M, which was a top-10 team at the time, last season. Saturday will be his seventh career start, his first against the Crimson Tide, and will present him with the toughest defense he's faced yet.

Alabama fans relentlessly troll Ole Miss after dominating 66-3 win over hapless Rebels

Crimson Tide coach seemed a little grumpy during his postgame news conference in spite of the 63-point differential.

Saban may not be satisfied with the result after Freeze got the best of him in back-to-back seasons (2014, 2015), but many Alabama fans were happy to again celebrate a blowout win over Ole Miss on their home field.

After three years of competitive games, Alabama left no doubt against an outclassed Ole Miss team Saturday night

All the Rebels' return to Bryant-Denny Stadium served as was an illustration of how far away they are from the good days.

Top-ranked Crimson Tide outclassed Ole Miss from the opening whistle and sent the Rebels back to Oxford with a humbling 66-3 defeat.

"I think they're all in there hurting right now. Players, coaches, everybody," Matt Luke said. "I think the only way to get that taste out of your mouth is to watch the film and go back to work tomorrow."

Nick Saban said the ultimate disrespect is when "someone quietly thinks they have your number."

The Rebels (2-2, 0-1 SEC) had won two games recently against the Crimson Tide (5-0, 2-0 SEC) but were quiet for a reason this week: they don't have much to brag about

Ole Miss is a team with massive flaws — like the inability to run the ball or stop the run — and was coming off a loss to Cal. It was a 28-point underdog and it took Alabama only two quarters to build a lead that large.

Everything needed to go right for the Rebels to have a chance. They looked like they would catch a break when Myles Hartsfield broke on a Jalen Hurts pass and was in position for an interception in the first quarter.

The ball went through Hartsfield's arms and fell to the turf.

"I think if you're going to be on the sidelines, you should be focusing on the game," Saban said. "That's basically the policy. That's basically what we're trying to do. We have a rule that nobody's allowed to have a cell phone on the sidelines, and we have a rule for when you can have your cell phone out in the locker room. Obviously it's a focus issue. I don't know what else I can say about it."
