Missouri Southern State University dies of heart attack in office

John Ware, 46, head football coach at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, died Tuesday morning of apparent heart failure in his office at the university, according to Jerry Neil, coroner of Jasper County.

Ware reportedly was found slumped over his desk. Efforts were made to resuscitate him by those who found him, said Neil. Ware was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Neil said an autopsy is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cox South Hospital in Springfield. A forensic pathologist, Dr. Keith Norton, will perform the autopsy.
