Replace 5 seniors from the NC team and get them back to the Dance.  Shoot, if He can't get it done in one year, I sure expect Pel to do it, since he worked under him and was one of his main recruiters.  :razorback:

We only have 10 schollies to fill.  Piece of cake.

And with four and five star recruits!!

What an awful coach!

Hog Milanese

FAIL.

9-7 and a 20 win season is a whole different league than 2-15 in the conference and losing 14 of your last 16 games after starting 12-1 and defeating two top-10 teams in your non-conference schedule, combined with a myriad of off-court issues, discipline issues, and recruits who were a colossal waste of scholarships (not to mention whiffing on every key recruit for next season).

Big difference.

But, I still like Pel and want him to succeed here. :-D

When Pel wins back to back NC. he can have 2 or 3 down years and i would not give a crap. but we will never have to worry about that. we like 2 and 15 to much.

Marshfieldhog

Pel hasn't done jack crap, I mean ever( as a coach)..he won one NCAA game with a team that went to back to  back NCAA games and then got his tail handed to him in the next game.

dude its even worse than that... Florida won in 06 and 07, so that means it's been:

TWO WHOLE SEASONS

and Florida STILL isn't back in the tournament!   8-8 last year, only 9-7 this year.

not. good.

I wonder in all seriousness if he is getting some heat at Fl. Not making the tournament two years in a row after all the success has to upsetting some fans.

It has to be upsetting to him, too.  I remember last year he was furious at how they sputtered toward the end of the season and tried stuff like kicking them out of the locker room and not allowing them to wear florida garb until their play improved to motivate them.  Because, for all he has done as a coach, there is no excuse for a team with that much talent in a league this bad to be in the NIT.

Yes you are.

"LOL".

I can't wait to watch jump ball spin like a top if pel has a good third year and a great 4th one.  posters on here will be saying "i always knew he'd do it! i never doubted!"

What kind of recruits does Florida have coming in?

Don't hold your breath while waiting on Pelphrey to have a good year. The guy was barely a .500 coach in the sunbelt conference. He was hired for his pedigree and not for anything he has shown as a college coach. It looked good on paper and was worth the gamble, but it appears to have turned up snake eyes unfortunately.

You'll be waiting...you'll be waiting a long time.

Yeah, you're right. The guy that made Florida Gator basketball what it is today should be fired. As someone has already posted, they were on the bubble at the end of the past two years. Noone really thought that they would get in, but you could at least make a case.

9-7 always beats out 2-15. The only reason Florida should be disappointed about 20 wins and 9-7 in conference is because of Billy D. And I bet they return to the tourney before us.

Oh come on, someone post the Coach K stat again!

B.S.  He completely turned around USA.  They were bad before he got there and he took them to the NCAAT and an NIT bid in his final two years.  That was their first NCAAT bid since 1998.  They were 8-20 the season before he got there.  He won 20 games or more in his final two seasons there.

He will build our program the right way, if given the chance.  It won't be a quick turnaround, but he can get it done.

Great!  He "turned around" South Alabama.  Woo hoo!  The man needs SEC caliber assistants, evaluators, etc.  What he has now will just not cut it, I believe that is fairly evident by our performance on the court.  And off of it.

I didn't say everything was perfect now and there shouldn't be changes made.  I'd love to see Sean Sutton or Corliss Williamson (or someone like them) added to the staff.  I think we need to add an assistant coach that is a recruiting specialist with many ties to high schools and AAU programs.

DO you guys know what Coach K's record at Duke was after his 1st 3 seasons ???

psooie

Win Back to Back NCAA titles and you have room for error...probably about 5 years worth of not going to the NCAA before you feel any heat.

jjones

Florida 23-10 record with out of conference losses to 3 seed Syracuse 89-83 and a 57-55 loss to 5 seed Florida State.  They also beat a 4 seed Pac 10 champs Washington.

Now why is it they are not in the tourney again?

The SEC may be down a little this year, but they are definitely not as bad as what the media has portrayed.

If the SEC is so bad, it should make the big12 look pathetic having Texas and Oklahoma lose to the worst team in the SEC.

I will be rooting for the 23-12 SEC Tourney champs 13-seeded Miss. State bulldogs,  the 26-7 8-seeded LSU Tigers, and the 9-seeded Tennessee team who has already knocked off 2 big east schools this year.

Biggus Piggus

Did I miss something, or is Florida going to the NIT for the second straight season?

The Gators didn't deserve to go to the Dance, because they fell out of the RPI top 50 with their loss to Auburn.  They weren't even one of the last four out.  Even a couple of top 50 teams didn't make it.  The field includes 31 automatics and 34 at-large teams.  At least 18 automatics wouldn't have gotten into the field had they not won their conference tourneys.  That means no more than 47 teams in the Dance are there on merit.  If you're not in the top 47, you have no argument.

Creighton, 40 RPI and 9-5 against the top 100, they have an argument.  San Diego State, 34 RPI and a top 40 schedule strength, they have an argument.

Now, the fact that Billy Donovan has missed the Dance two years running after having to replace that great team he had in 2006-07...that shows how hard it can be.

Florida had been in eight straight NCAAT's.  It is hard to build the right team chemistry when you have to replace a bunch of players at once.

So Florida won back to back National Championships in his first two years at Florida?

As much as I hate to bring a gun to a knife fight Joe, Billy Donovan was 13-17 and 14-15 in his first two years at Florida.

If you are going to make a point, at least have some semblance of reason and a basic understanding of the facts prior to spouting off something that is so easily shot down.

This went right over your head didn't it, sad really.

The point is that Florida DID win back to back NC's but hasn't been able to make it back to the NCAA's for two years because they had to replace basically an entire team. Sound familiar?  Only difference is Florida is coming off of, hate to repeat myself joe, but back to back NC's whereas we were coming off of 2 first round losses and a second round loss.

Not to mention they have signed some talented recruits, but I guess Donovan doesn't know how to coach since he can't take a bunch of Freshman and Sophmores to the dance.  Probably can't recruit either.  After all, it doesn't take that long to build a program. (see the above post)

You can compare records all you want, but Florida is coming off of 2NC's, we are coming off of first round losses, see the difference?  Probably not.

Explain Arizona getting in with a 60+ RPI & losing 5 of their last 6 games...If they can get in then Florida has an argument.  That said you are right about building chemistry with all new players...

The point of this thread is a good one.
If it takes one of the top 10 coaches more than 2 years to get his team back to the NCAA tournament, it might be a little much to expect a up and coming coach to do it in one year.

Let's not let the facts get in the way of the truth.  I like Pelphrey and want him to succeed, but let's not start making up stories about how he "completely turned around" the South Alabama program.  Bob Weltlick was 81-65 at South Alabama from 1997 to 2002, while Pelphrey was 80 - 67 from 2002 to 2007.  Weltlick had a hire winning percentage than Pelphrey.  I Before Weltlick, Bill Musselman was the USA coach, and he had a higher winning percentage than both Weltlick and Pelphrey.

What was USA's record before Pelphrey got there?  Obviously, Weltick didn't have chit on his team when he left and didn't have anyone coming in to help, either.
