Nose gaurd for Bama. Did anyone else read about this guy in the paper today?
Apparently this guy is supposed to be not only a giant but has aguility and quickness uncommon for a player of his size. Luigs is going to have quite a test. Has anyone seen him play?

TechHog

Don't underestimate Luigs....  I would rather have him than any other Center in the country.  That being said, he'll have guard help almost every play.

Wild Bill Hog

Luigs is well aware of him and was commenting about him on the news a night or so ago.  I think he'll do okay.  JL's been around the SEC block a few times before.

Kim Jong Il

I agree Luigs is the best center in the nation, I just think this will be a big time matchup in the game

Cash267

Great Gatsby!!!

That dude is YOOOGE!!!!

orgkeith

Did not watch much of the Bama-Clemson game.  What I did see was Cody stand out like a sore thumb.  He completely blew up the middle of Clemson's OL.  We will not be running up the middle in this game.

Cash267

Is he really "SEC" caliber quick/agile for a DT.....or just surprisingly quick/agile for a guy that size??

I haven't seen him play.....

Bama Possum

Cody is not so much a threat to blow up many plays, but he has been demanding double and triple teams. That has freed up the linebackers to stop the run.

SpenceHogg

Not only is he huge, he's uglier than hell.  Reminds me of Tiny Lister with dreadlocks.

Do not laugh at, mock, or otherwise annoy Terrence Cody. He will eat you with a side of onion rings and a diet coke.

Do not allow your children to play on or around Terrence Cody. There is still an ongoing investigation over three missing children who mistook him for a bouncing fort.

Do not come near Terrence Cody while you are eating or shortly after eating, especially bar-b-que. Blue Cross and Blue Shield have already added waivers to this effect. It's kind of like running with the bulls in Pamplona. If you choose to place yourself in this dangerous position it is considered your own negligible act.

If Terrence Cody should become agitated or angry while in your presence, try and play a harp or flute. If you do not have a harp or flute, kick the guy next to you in the shins and run...fast.

This has been a public service message.

Doubt he's ever had a diet Coke and this one of the lamest posts I've ever read.  I saw the guy play against Western Kentucky last week and he is good but a guy his size is going to wear down.  Most guys his size don't last the season.  I wonder how he'll hold up with the nation's best center beating on him for an entire game.  I just wish that you guys would have played Auburn before us so they could've delivered one of their patented chop blocks to his knee but Luigs will handle him just fine.

Brosshog

This is what I've been wanting at Arkansas for a long time, 1 or 2 HUGE defensive tackles. They don't have to make a lot of tackles, just plug up the hole in the middle. Sure wish we had him. Can you say run stopper?

Auburn is going to chop block his @ss on the first play of their game.

Wow, I should have read the whole thread before posting.  You were thinking the same thing as me.  And yes I was joking as well.

This really isn't a comment on the guys college play, I've never seen him play so he might be awesome.  But did anyone watch his highlight videos on rivals?  If this is what he sent to colleges then he got recruited strictly on size b/c there were no highlights on it.  I watched the longer one and on one play he pushed the center off the ball pretty deep and then grabbed the rb as he ran by him and the rb still got 3 or 4 yards.  Also consisted of him running down field after the play passed him and not even getting in on the tackle.  And the last play he gets into the backfield gets a hold of the rb's shirt, loses his grip and runs up and falls onto the pile 5 yards down field.  Mainly looks like he requires a double team and you better not run right at him or he'll reach out and grab your shirt and eventually drag you down 3 to 5 yards downfield.

A couple things to consider.

QuoteIs he really "SEC" caliber quick/agile for a DT.....or just surprisingly quick/agile for a guy that size??  All 365 pounds of him can dunk a basketball.  He is unbelievable.  And don't think he's done after the ball is passed, he than goes after whoever has the rock.  He doesn't quit.

QuoteI wonder how he'll hold up with the nation's best center beating on him for an entire game.  Unfortunately for Arkansas Terrence Cody and his best friend (also a nose tackle) alternate every 5 plays.  So he will be fresh the entire game.  The last 3 games he was double and triple teamed every play and was fresh the entire game.

He's our lightweight.  We'll be alright.  Mr. Cody will be going up against Jonathan Luigs.  JL is kinda like the umm, well,.. uhh.. best Center in the nation so....

that rivals link says he's 395lbs not 365lbs.  so he can't be that quick or agile.  another thing, i think we've found the missing link.

Article on the matchup...http://www.al.com/printer/printer.ssf?/base/sports/1221556547227300.xml&coll=1&thispage=2

The 395 was from last year. He has dropped 30 pounds and is currently at 365.

For those who are asking or saying that his conditioning, agility and quickness could not possibly be up to par because he is 365 pounds, take a look at this picture from 2 weeks ago.  Javier Arenas broke out on a punt which resulted in a touchdown... you might take a look at who's with him running down the side line.

I like an O-Lineman that is shorter the D-Lineman especially if the O-Lineman is seasoned. You get into the body of a D-Lineman and get under his pads and you can take him wherever you want him to go. His heighth in the interior line is not an advantage.

I was taking a tongue in cheek jab at Auburn with my chop block remark but I do think it is inevitable that if Cody does play in the Auburn game that something like that may well happen.  Just ask Glenn Dorsey about it....

I was thinking the same thing--looks like he never quit, but his never quit isn't as good as many of the guys we'll have to block this year.  I predict he won't be a factor in the game this week--their linebackers, safeties, and ther DL's probably will be, but Luigs can man-handle this guy.

Highschool was a couple of years ago for him since he was juco.  The video is against WKU but it's some updated video nonetheless.

Thanks, I wish we could see more.  I'm sure he'll have a tackle or two, but I don't think he'll be able to handle Luigs like that, but I've been wrong before.

COCHISE

With the ease in which W. Illinois and ULM's linemen got to Casey, I'm extremely concerned that Casey won't have enough time to sit in the pocket and be effective, unless Summers has done some hellacious coaching over the past couple of weeks Casey could be spending A LOT of time on his arse.

Height is not an advantage for D-line, but I played O-line in college and this gigantic fat-monster isn't going "wherever you want him to go."  Even the best (Luigs) can only really hope to control his tackling arm as the running back slips through.

And sometimes turning and screening a guy is enough. It is physically more challenging and tiring when you have a big body across from you just because the fat arse's tend to lean on you, but if you get under the front edge of his pads and push up with your hands, you can move him.

There isn't a center in all of college football that can handle #62 by himself. He will tie up at least 2 men the entire game.

We aint moving that fat guy.  365# is probably conservative.  It's SEC, there aren't a bunch of pancake blocks and moving people around.  It's mostly stale-mate and positioning.  I would love to see somebody root that Tubbo out of the box but there's only so much that can be done with Godzilla over center. I think Luigs will do extremely well against this guy.....but with brains, experience, hand position, and guards blocking down on him.  We'd need a dump-truck to move this beast.

Hello Razorback fans.  This is my first time over here and I come in peace.

Just thought I'd chime in on Cody.  The guy will never be a stat machine.  His sole purpose is to clog up the middle and demand a double team.  That frees up a guy on the Bama defense to get the stats.  As far as him not being able to play the whole game, like another bama fan mentioned, he doesn't have to.  He rotates every 5 plays with another 300+ lb monster.

Cody has provided a big boost to the bama defense this year.  There is NO running up the middle.

LOL  True.

So what has Arky's offense been like so far?  Is it the complete opposite of Nutt or have they mixed in a decent amount of running to balance it out?

Your personnel packages will be vastly different than your first 3 games.

When we go 5 wide, a 400 lb nose guard will be useless.

It's the polar opposite of Nutt's nonsense.  Nowadays, it appears we actually have a game plan and there is a lot of thought put into our play-calling.
It's a balanced offense, although we've had to throw a lot since we've been behind seemingly the whole year.

That's true and nowhere in my post did I say anything about Cody against Arkansas.  My comments were about him as a player in general.  Against your spread 'em out offense, the other nose, Chapman, will get more playing time.  Except, of course, in obvious running downs (if you guys have any of those anymore).
