Snead will end up challenging for every record Eli has at Ole Miss. Why are you so concerned for him anyway? He has looked good so far.

If Nutt snatches control of the offense from the offensive coordinator (he has a proven track record of this), Snead will become the bus driver and the handeroffer.  You can't break passing records with running plays.

Snead IS a fantastic quarterback.  Some of the stuff I saw that kid do in Wake/Miss game was extremely impressive.

He was pretty much the sole reason that Ole Miss was even in that ball game.

And did anyone else catch Nutt pulling his trademarked "2-minute Panic" offense?  Timeouts to avoid delay of game, penalties, wild gesticulations, finger-nail chewing; and, if not for a gift penalty from Wake, a much wider margin of loss for the game.

They were TOAST till that PI penalty on 3rd and 15 at the 27.  I got deja vu.

FaytownHog

Coach nutt to snead: "It's all in the way you look at now. Is it making you a worse passer or a better hander offer? or fake hander offer? oh, who am i kiddin, why would he ever need to fake hand off? that would imply a pass! haha. now head on down to danny's office and tell him you to take you down to the sonic and get some ice cream, and you two can talk about it. thanks for bein so special!"

rmcchris

I feel bad for the Ole Miss faithful, but not Hooty.  He is terrible.  The only reason Matt Jones was so good at QB (at times) was the fact he just didn't listen to Nutt and did his own thing.  He could of been stoned most of the time too, which probably helped him not listen to Nutt as well.

Then answer me this... why is Colonel Nutt simplifying the offense if Snead has looked good so far?

The only award Snead will challenge Eli for while HootenDale is coach is "Bestest HanderOffer".

Geeze what an idiot. Once again it was not the offense that lost the game, it was they defense. Three games from last year to make a point! Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky. That went though my mind watching the Wake/Miss game. Nutt just self-destructed this team before the season is even half way. I honestly believe they will not see 500 with MOTHO being there. Maybe Texass will hire him after they fire Brown?

Why do you think the first person who called Snead after the Hootie coup was Mitch Mustain?  Mustain warned him at the time but it's not like Snead could transfer again.  He was stuck between a rock and a max protect.

That is not true. That was some BS started by nutt fans. It never happened.

Wear your smites with pride.   They most often result from the weakmindedness of the smiter rather than the quality of your post.

The aforementioned rule does not apply to BigDeal.

Someone has me set up to get an hourly smite when they're logged on... I'm loving it... gone from a -61 to a -130 in just about two weeks' time.  I'm averaging somewhere between 3-6 per day... even on days I don't post!  Popularity has its drawbacks, I suppose... ;)

Nutt and Austin both said before the season Nutt would call the plays. Clearly he was more of the guy from 98 or 99, but one lost and nhe is ready to go ack to run, run, run, punt.

The fact is I see the fans taking Austin over Nutt. If Austin starts getting credit he won't have any say. Same thing happened to Gus.

The story says this:  "Ole Miss rushed for just 109 yards on 27 carries against Wake Forest.  Freshman Brandon Bolden led the team with 43 yards rushing."

One poster there says this:  "I do understand what Nutt wants. He wants to be able to get a lead and then pound the rock and burn out the clock but I hope he doesn't stop passing the ball and just adds some running plays out of passing formations or some other tweaks that give Snead a chance to throw."

Another poster says this:  "snead left too much air under the ball a couple of time which resulted in interceptions. with the talent he has and the quality of coaching he is getting ... he will get past that."  He is then corrected by another poster who remind him that Snead only threw one INT.

They aren't gonna know what him them.  The MOTHO is about to play his smashmouth brand of foosball in this two-chinstrap league, despite having the QB and Offensive Coordiator to run a 21st century offense.  Sound familiar?  Somewhere, GM and MM are getting shivers down their spines at the memories.

I honestly almost feel sorry for Snead. (their QB)  He's the one who's really gonna be getting the short end of the stick.  Nutt will want him to manage the game...not win it for him.

Houston Nutt's game plan is to run the clock out with a strong and steady rushing attack, essentially keeping the ball away from the opposing team's offense...meanwhile putting all the pressure on the defense to win the game.  He plays for field position instead of touchdowns...and sees time of possesion as a huge neccessity.  He has no killer instinct...he coaches scared and conservative....so of course he wants to simplify...he likes low expectations from fans too.

+1 - That's always been my take on him.  Coming from out of state I was just amazed at how people thought he'd take them to the NC but he seemed mediocre to me.  And he lived up to my assessment.  "coaching scared" is a very accurate observation and it probably has a lot to do with insecurity (in your coaching staff, your direction, your ability).

Even though the Ole Miss fans are in denial, you can rest assured Austin isn't.  This ain't his first Rodeo.

I do think Austin was out of the loop while he was in Canada and took the job actually believing he would be the offensive coordinator.

But, you're right, once he got down here, I'm sure he found out rather quickly that his input would be little or nothing.

Did Dork & Danny keep a copy of Gus's playbook? There may be another play in there that they can re-invent.
Also, Dork probably is of the opinion that if God wanted a football in the air he would have put wings on it.

I've said it many times on here, but the OC situation there set up perfectly for the Dork:
1. Bring in an OC who was a star at Ole Miss, so the fans will respond to the name, yet the OC is green at college coaching, so Dork gets to call the plays.
2. OC willing to come, because it's his alma mater and maybe a chance to showcase his skills for other OC or HC jobs.
3. Realizing said OC has never coached a down of college football, El Dorko realizes he has instant leverage and any misunderstanding will result in a: "Well, I gave you a chance to coach in the SEC, so give me what I want" type trump card.
4. As soon as #3 happens enough times, the Dork can reign everything in and go back to his patented "NuttBall" offense.

I had no idea it would play out this quickly.

Jevon Snead looks like a fine QB who is going to be throttled by MOTHO.  I feel sorry for him after transferring to Ole Miss.

Amazing, isn't it, how much of his playbook Coach Petrino has been able to install in the same number of practices, and still adding.   Look out Ole Miss, because you are going to look back at this period with Coach O's recruits overcoming MOTHO's offens as "the good ole days."

Ole Miss fans should really pay attention to TCTWF's quotes in that article and his recent history at Arkansas.  Reading between the lines, as many have done on this thread, you can see that Hootie has not changed at all.  I agree with the posters who note that Hootie places undue emphasis on time of possession.  He wants to simplify the offense because he is incapable of grasping complex offensive schemes and understanding nuances of the game that successful coaches like Carroll, Tressel, Spurrier and, I submit, Petrino can.  Ole Miss will have some success; however, it will be limited because you must play to win and not play to avoid losing.

This may surprise you all................he was also out of timeouts at the end of the game.  Petrino seems to value these things
