Some Young A-State Players to Watch this Spring

Between  the returning players and the plethora of transfers who sit out 2016, or will be joining the team over the summer, spring will be critical for the  younger players wanting to have bigger roles in 2017.

Here are some of the young, but talented players to watch this spring:

Logan Bonner (6'1, 225), 2-Star QB who chose A-State over  Southern Mississippi, UTSA and others. Considered the best passer on the team, who can make all the throws. Should have a shot at the #2 position, and according to "Insiders", could push for the starting job.

Troy Elliott(6-4.5, 297) 2-Star OL. Earned pt, and one start as a true, and should compete for a starting job in the OL.

Dalton Ford (6-4, 300), 2-star OL. Picked A-State over  Syracuse, Illinois ,and others. Could make the 2-deep at  center, or guard.

Chauncey Mason(5-9, 190), 3-star WR/AB.  Chose A-State over  offers from Syracuse, Southern Mississippi, and others.  Athletic brother of former Ole Miss and current NFL player Tre Mason, should see pt at WR and at AB.

Griffin Riggs(6-5, 245), 3-star DE. Picked A-State over offers from Cincinnati, Southern Mississippi, and others.  Had pt limited because of off the field issues in 2016, but could compete for a spot on the 2-deep. Considered their most physical DE.

Ben Sukut (6-0, 209), 3-star DB. Picked A-State over  offers from  BYU, San Diego St, Wyoming, and others. Versatile, talented  athlete who should earn pt at safety, nickel or LB, and could end up on the 2-deep somewhere.

Tajhea Chambers(6-2,,245), LB.  Former 3-Star Athlete.  A player the coaches said could be as good as any  LB A-State has had, and  who started and starred  against USC, before being injured and  lost for the season  against Missouri.  Saw limited action last year,but if 100% healthy should be a major force at LB.

Avery Johnson(6-2, 240), 3-Star Athlete. Chose A-State over Southern  Mississippi, and others. Excellent athlete who should earn increased pt at TE, or even the AB position.

Justin McInnis (6-6, 200), 3-Star WR. Chose A-State over  offers from Nevada, Southern Mississippi, and others. Former QB with 4.4 speed who should contribute at WR.

Cam Davis (6-4, 303,) 3-Star OL. Chose A-State over  offers from La Tech,  Southern Mississippi, and others. Son of former Razorback Isaac Davis, is very athletic, and should have a shot at making  the 2-deep.

Omar Bayless (6-2, 187), 3-Star WR, and former Missouri commit, with offers from Memphis and Southern Mississippi. Played well in 2016 but has a chance to be a major contributor at WR in 2017. Could push for a starting spot.

Darveon Brown (5-10, 185), 3-Star WR/AB. One of the top recruits in Arkansas out of Warren in 2015, his 4.4 speed, and athleticism should earn him increased  pt at the AB position.

Jamal Jones (5-9, 185), 3-Star RB. Picked A-State over  Louisville, and others. Could earn PT at the  crowded  RB position. Very, very good with the ball in his hands.

Javon Isaac (6-2, 214), 2-Star Athlete. Picked A-State over offers from Colorado St, La Tech, Southern Mississippi, Tulane and others. Undersized but athletic, and could end up contributing at a number of positions.

Javier Carbonell (6-2, 300), 3-Star DT. Played DE in HS, and was injured prior to senior year, but still picked up several FBS offers. Very active, aggressive player who most likely would have gone P5 if he had not missed his senior year in HS. Should earn pt on the DL.

William Bradley-King (6-5, 240), DE. One of the top Track & Field Athletes in the country out of HS. A-State coaches are extremely high on this player, and after a redshirt year in 2016, could earn pt at DE.

Jermey Smith (5-11, 167), DB. Played on both sides in HS, and one of the top sprinters in Texas out of HS. He impressed A-State coaches last fall with his cover skills, in addition to his exceptional  speed and quickness. Should get plenty of PT this fall, and could make the 2-deep at corner, if he progresses this spring.

Jaylon Marshall (6-2, 190), 2-Star WR. Teammate of Darveon Brown at Warren, should see pt at WR.

TJ Harris (6-2, 235), 2-Star Athlete. Chose A-State over New Mexico. Undersized but athletic and could end up contributing at a number of positions.

Kirk Lewis (6-0, 230), 2-Star LB. Chose A-State over Navy, Tulane and others. Solid run stopper, who should earn pt at LB.
