Idea to help with recruiting (Oregon/Nike)

There is no secret behind the success of Oregon these past several years.  They are bringing in top flight talent and competing for championships on a yearly basis.  They have no football tradition and are playing in a sub-par conference, yet we would kill to sign a recruiting class as talented as the ones Oregon is bringing in each year.

Which brings me to my next point, Nike.  We know that these kids are going to Oregon because of the money Phil Knight is pumping into the program.  They have great facilities, but the recruits really love the jerseys.  Why can't we leverage something similar with Walmart?  Obviously Walmart doesn't carry the cool factor of Nike, but we're talking about one of the largest corporations in the world located in our back yard.  You're telling me that Walmart couldn't pump some money into making awesome quality football jerseys?  They could follow the Nike/Oregon model to a T and in turn making a killing off of jersey sales in their stores.

People might laugh at the idea of Walmart jerseys, but it could be just what we need to turn the corner and return to national relevance.

Where are the photoshop artist around here that can put together some COOL Arkansas Jerseys designed with Walmart as an Idea?

I remember a sportspickle or some satire sports site like that had an article about just this.  Wal*Mart signing a sponsorship deal worth a Billion dollars with the U. of Arkansas.  Came complete with a starter jersey deal and whatever the shoe brand they bought is called.

However, the old school starter jackets are making a huge comeback.  It'll be interesting to see how the trend holds up through the winter.

Maybe some of the marketing boys over at Tyson could get in on it too. A Walmart/Tyson Chicken athletic wear line might just push Nike out of the top spot.
Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some "Hogville Censored" muscle. -Wooderson

I'm afraid if Tyson designers got involved, our uni's would be solid tan.

Maybe substitute Tyson chicken gizzards instead of P.B and Jelly sammiches at halftime??

You left out the part about play makers wanting to play in that kind of offense....kinda important.

With Walmart $$$ our options could be endless.  When Oregon takes the field with new jerseys it is an event and the nation has their eyes on them.  For just one second forget about the negative connotations that come with Walmart and imagine being able to wear a new style of jersey for every home game.  It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a jersey deal with a company worth $200 billion would do wonders for recruiting, the football program, and our university.  The amount of money it would take to develop a fashionable line of jerseys exclusive to the UofA would be a drop in the bucket compared to Walmart's yearly operating expenses.  In addition, I could see this being a very lucrative deal for all parties involved as Walmart could tap into a new market of high-end sports jerseys and the Hawgs could reap the rewards that currently are monopolized by the Ducks.

At this point I'm strictly talking uniforms.  If this deal were made and turned out to be successful, which I don't see how it COULDN'T, then we could easily parlay this into bigger and better things.  (Top of the line facilities anyone?)

Anyway, just my $0.02.

Here's a better one:  Walmart should buy Nike and move it to NW Arkansas...  How would you like that?  ::hornsdown::

This is a good idear.  Too bad the Walton's put all that money into crystal bridges.  Some souped up jerseys would have been a better investment.  Let me make some calls.  If I put 1% of the money I have and they would match it we could really do something.

Damn. I didn't realize it was the jerseys.....

Let's go for it! Think Wal Mart can afford jerseys for TWELVE games!?!

We could win some games for a change.  That would have to help at least a little bit.

I would just have them wear "How may I help you?" vests on the sideline to stay warm.

I miss the smell of the mud, grass, and sweat of the practice field. I miss blood oozing down your arm from the rip in your skin that was slashed on a guys helmet as you punked him at the line of scrimmage and put his dobber in the dirt.

Walmart needs to find a logo for their sports appearal that rivals the swoosh.  And if they provided really cool unis for the Hogs it would help the team in the long run and would help Walmart too.  A cool logo would remind every fan of walmart and would increase their business.  Walmart has the cheap logo imbedded in every customers brain.  They would sell lots of college and NFL stuff if they would sponsor a few teams and build it cool.

We could dress our players out in Dickies!
Love the idea ... however I wonder if it is still to soon after the CBP/Jessica /motorcycle issue to have a sponsor with that name. Dickies ... yeah, to soon I think.

Hell, if we get Tyson involved, we could have real feathers!!!

I think this kind of uniform would really attract recruits...maybe even better than feathers.

The Walton's don't run WMT anymore. Sure, as a family they control a lot of stock but I doubt WMT corporate gives 2 shits about the Razorbacks. They'd rather take that money and open a super center in Timbuck Too or BFE (the only 2 places in the free world that don't already have a wmt).

Our slogan could be that our lineman are as tough to push around as the average worn out Walmart shopping cart.
