You could make a strong argument that A-State's recent success in football is a result of the success they had in recruiting Alabama, and while they still do well in Alabama it looks like Texas and surprisingly Oklahoma, home of seven players on the 2017 roster, are becoming the new go-to spots for recruits.

Texas is not surprising because HC Blake Anderson is from Hubbard, Texas, and Assistant-HC Trooper Taylor from Cuero, Texas, and DC Joe Cauthen graduated from Stephen F. Austin.  Both Anderson and Taylor went to Baylor on a football scholarship.

But why Oklahoma?

Maybe the OU Pipeline discussed here on AStateNation:  http://scout.com/college/arkansas-state/Article/Several-Sooners-have-joined-the-Red-Wolves-106050594

Arkansas States hiring of  Kelly Damphousse from OU as chancellor of the Jonesboro campus, might have helped raise A-State's "Brand" recognition in the Sooner State, and maybe helped with OU WR Dahu Green, who was a student of his.

That Blake Anderson and new OU HC Lincoln Riley are close friends probably helped.  Anderson acknowledged in today's Jonesboro Sun that Riley was instrumental in A-State landing Green, so it is almost certain he has helped his buddy while he was OC there, which is when their recruiting there suddenly took off.

Starting RB Warren Wand was a highly regarded RB at Memorial HS in Edmond OK., and his personality almost insures that he is a good recruiter.

Justice Hansen is from Edmond, OK (Santa Fe), a former sooner, along with being the starting QB for A-Statecertainly helps.

Winning and going to bowls certainly helps.

Recruits love rings.

It is a border state, so that probably helps.

Of course the answer is probably all of the above, and more, and if these players turn out to be like the Alabama players, A-State fans hope it continues, whatever reasons it started.

If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.
