Quote from: SwineFusion on April 22, 2024, 08:14:02 pmJust a note: There's no such thing as "Big 12 officiating" or "SEC officiating". Most officials work in multiple conferences, and some work both the Big 12 and the SEC. I don't disagree that SEC officiating needs improvement, but I bet if we watched the Little Dozen as closely as we watch the SEC, we'd think their zebras all need Lasik too.

Attending a dozen plus B12 games a year, I've noticed some of those officials working other conference games. So technically you're correct. But something doesn't pass the eye test and I've heard mention of "league play" in B12 being called with greater allowance for physical play. I don't know how that works in terms of advising officials or if it's even a real factor. But numbers don't lie. This is a chart in USAToday article on fouls per league for 2020 season.

Total fouls committed

SEC — 7,746 (553 per 14 teams)
ACC — 6,979 (465 per 15 teams)
Big Ten — 6,466 (461 per 14 teams)
Pac-12 — 5,968 (497 per 12 teams)
Big East — 4,970 (497 per 10 teams)
Big 12 — 4,864 (486 per 10 teams)

March Madness IS college basketball.
If you don't win in March, you are not relevant. Period.

Secondly, you have to win enough games to make the tournament, so that covers the regular season as well. But it's all a prelude to the tournament.

Thirdly..it's your job as a coach to guard these guys when they get off the bus so that they don't have their "one shining moment". So, Colgate didn't have one..we won that game going away. Oakland did..Kentucky didn't defend well enough and let Cinderella rain threes all day and UK was on the wrong side of history in that one. You gotta lock them boys down.

I got frustrated with the slow SEC starts every single year under Muss..but he sure knew how to win games in March, and he put us back on the national map. He even took Nevada to two Sweet 16s. The man knows how to game plan defensively, and you do not want to play him in the tourney.

It also says here if we didn't have to play eventual champ Baylor in 2021, we make the Final 4 that year. We were a Top 5 team to finish that season.

I give Muss an 'A', things have changed, and now excited to see if Cal can revive his NCAA success here. You know we'll sure have players.

We were not a Top 5 team.  We finished 10th.  We had an incredibly easy road that year to the Elite 8 - favored to win all 3 games to get there and almost lost to ORU.  The next year was also solid.  The last 2 years were failures.

I'd much rather be relevant all season long, finish Top 5 in the SEC, Top 20 overall, and lose in the 2nd round that be disappointing all year and get lucky with an easy path to an Elite 8.

Quote from: Hog66 on Today at 08:17:09 amAnd the committee will have 9 B1G teams in the dance with 5 of them top 16 seeds. The Big 10 is easily the most overrated conference.

That has happened exactly once in the last decade. And FWIW KenPom had them as the best conference that year by a good margin.

People get blinded by that one year and their failings in that one tournament as this idea that the Big 10 is constantly overrated. It's typically seeded about where they should be.

The B1G had 6 bids last year. 3 of them over performed their seed line and 3 under.

Most at Nutters are nice. Number 10, # 14 and # 5 are rough. The previous groundskeeper used to spend his entire budget on planting pine trees. Eventually the greens weren't getting any sun. They've cleared out a bunch of the trees and they're getting better.

Quote from: tophawg19 on April 22, 2024, 09:09:13 pmHe has a bigger NIL budget than he had . Does he now start looking for even bigger fish to go with the select 5 stars? He has 5 weeks to go after them. Things are about to get wild , I feel sorry for coaches in the NIL era of sports. It isn't the best coaches anymore but the ones with NIL. Year to year you never know who is going to be on your team. I can't understand Cal at 65 wanting to do this till 70 or beyond. I.  would think this makes coaching far harder. I just wonder what the effect is on fan bases 5 years from now
My guess is Cal has seen freshmen guards can be elite as freshmen but when it comes to bigs usually the best in the Nation are experienced 3 or 4 years players. From the looks of things he is still gonna recruit the big time freshmen guards but use the portal to fill out the front court. Inreally hope we get somto cyril still, dude is gonna be a rebounding monster, probaly not a one and done so wouod get him multiple years.

Quote from: 88Aggie on Today at 07:32:26 amThank you.
Midweek game vs. a far less talented team. UAPB actually moved the pitching rotation a bit so that Jordan could pitch against his brother.
It's just sad to see a staff not give a darn about the love of the game.
I'm an Aggie, obviously, but when Jay chose Arkansas I was fully supportive.
I was even pretty level headed through this season with the playing time- I see the stats. There's a case to start him, and there are stats to say otherwise as well.
But not playing him last night was a complete dick move. No one can argue that in any fashion.
You are dumber than I orginally thought.
