I had to make this post last season after a tough lost. Mike Anderson has a young team full of players who haven't been asked to lead on this level.

This team is going to be better when Anton Beard returns to the line up. Durham. Kingsley and Bell have to take ownership of the team. We all know this will be a challenging season but this team will get better.

I'm looking forward to a solid season from this team. All sickness is not death.

This isn't a good basketball team by any measure;  its also not a very bad one.

Seasons are long,  the roster is a mess, and there's a lot to be done yet.  The season isn't going to amount to anything, but it can be used productively, still.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Too soon! Hard to find anything to say good about MA after that epic meltdown.
I'll try: Nice man.

I believe in Mike Anderson what I believed in him when he was hired. He hasn't changed my opinion much at all. One could look at that negatively based on what my opinion was of him, but I don't.

Are we young? Don't we only have one freshman this year? Kentucky had a ton of freshmen. Duke won the national championship with 2 in the starting line up.

Edit: we have 2 freshmen. Although I wish we had more since we have 2 open scholarships

Mike's a good coach. Better than previous 2 that's for sure.

But, until they start recuiting at a consistent level. Crap like this will happen.

Good news is I think next year set up well as Barford is the most explosive Guard we have had since BJ. And Moses and Whitt will have had a full year of experience

Duke and Kentucky have elite players out of high school. They have guys that can compete in the NBA before they arrive on campus. We don't have that at Arkansas and will not have it if we run off quality coaches after 4-5 years.

Young-inexperienced players are on the roster. These guys didn't have to lead last year or in years past. Bell and Kingsley are going to step up. Beard is a gamer and fighter. His confidence and toughness will help this team overcome some issues on the roster.

Then we'll go to play @TAMU to start SEC play, as usual, and get a rude awakening.

I bet you there are no more than 7,000 fans for any game.  Recruits don't want to see that and guys like Malik Monk do not want any part of that. Long hard facts are that Arkansas basketball is a joke and will be for decades to come without a coaching change.  Biggest mistake in razorback history was not hiring Bill Self in 20002 when he wanted the job. We hired garbage Heath the instead. Race related.

Yes. I will watch and support this team and Mike. I went to a bunch of games and the SEC tourney last year. But I'm also a realist. This team will be lucky to finish in the top half of the SEC. We have to hit on recruiting this year, not just who we have now, but in those final 2 spots. Gafford will hopefully get the ball rolling for 2017, but we have to lock up the in state talent and bring in a difference maker.

We need one more player to finalize that class. We have to build relationships instate to keep some of the elite talent. Winning will attract players. Show some development this season and win a couple of games in the tournament next season.

It blows my mind how stupid some of our fans are, but I am not sure why. All summer long we heard about how awful this team would be. They are living up to expectations of this being a rough year, but people still lose their mind when we get beat and call for Mike to be fired, act like we they did not expext to lose, etc. We expect to lose, we lose, and all of a sudden you are disgusted. We should not blow that large of a lead, but nobody expected us to ever have that large of a lead without Beard, either.

But hey, most of the people complaining didn't get their degree from the school, rarely attend games, but own a t-shirt and watch on tv so they deserve better!!!

This year will suck. Next year we will be a top 25 and people will slowly jump back on the band wagon.

He shouldn't be fired.  It shouldn't even be discussed right now.  But today was a bad loss even for this team.  Bad two days.

I do expect him to have success at Arkansas in the future.

Both losses were terrible realistically. GT will be lucky to finish .500. However, we expected to struggle to be .500 ourselves this year. I am a season ticket holder, and got 2 degrees from the school. Spent 6 years there as a student. It pains me to see us struggle as much as anyone, but the way so many people act after a loss this year is ridiculous. I hate losing, but am encouraged in what could be next season if our JUCO players are as good as expected. We will have 5-6 really good players next year, in my opinion.

Are you asking about sustained high level success?

We will probably be in NCAAT contention next season.  After that, Gafford arrives and............  I describe this era as rollercoaster.  Today's game was rollercoaster.  I expect Coach A will have some more up seasons.  The state is providing help and he has enough JC connections to do good enough to remain coach.  What I expected when the campaign was happening a decade or more ago.

I still believe in Mike too. Some are just piling on because it was a tough loss and when people are mad they need someone to point fingers at and it's tossed on the head coach. Also they say he can't recruit because some punk kid in NWA decided he doesn't care about his home state. That's not on MA. He did all he could do.
It's going to be a rough year. We knew that when Bobby and Qualls left early.

I'll continue to support Mike Anderson and the Hogs for better or worse as long as he is the Head Hog. I hope he can pick it up in recruiting though, and i'm sure he's well aware of that. This season is probably gonna suck, but there's an outside chance we'll be right back next season.

'Zactly. Funny thing is for four years people on here complain that MA has no fire, won't get in the ref's ear and fight for his guys. Yesterday, he does exactly that and he gets raked for showing fire and fighting for his guys. Maybe not the best time to get one but over the long haul these players will benefit from that 'chip-on-the-shoulder' support from their coach.

CMA is a good coach, there is nothing wrong with the system. With that said, no system works if you aren't able to recruit the level of talent to make it go. Assembling a roster of role players means they will have to play over their heads every night against the average to good teams in order to win.

Agreed, but I think those suspensions/dismissals killed us as bad as if not worse than missing on late recruits.  I think we could have been deeper and more experienced with Jacorey and Anton, probably could have beaten Akron or won one in NY.

I actually think having one of those three late pickups work out early on (Willy) is a positive.

But yeah that's over now, and it's up to the dudes on the floor and we need 110% from all of them.

Nosboar Accubond

I'm struggling to keep supporting CMA, only because at year 5 we should not be having these types of roster issues. I understand it is hard to replace a guy like Portis and I didn't expect us to, but honestly we have an average roster of role players at best. We need 2 play makers a year which should be feasible in recruiting for basketball. We have not been able to do that and we have all seen the recruiting issues heading our way as each class passes.  :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback: :razorback:

By far the most intelligent post I've seen since my last one.

It's truly that simple. Mike has proven he is a good coach. Been there. Done that. Won games. Beat other coaches. He, like every other coach alive, is as good as his players.

If you want to see a bad coach, look at LSU's Johnny Jones. Plenty of talent, including the likes of rare special big men like O'Bryant, Mickey, and Martin, with very little to show for it. Helluva recruiter, though. Should be able to skate by a while longer.
