Which Anti-Arkansas Basketball betrayal was worst?

We're used to getting stabbed in the back.    It is a recurrent theme with top recruits and others associated with our basketball program.  Which was the worst?

Malik goes to Kentucky,  to shield himself from 'distractions'
208 (56.7%)
Archie goes to Kentucky as a 'business decision'
12 (3.3%)
Eddie goes to Kentucky, crawling on his hands and knees
94 (25.6%)
Dana Altman heads back to Creighton in 24 hours
53 (14.4%)

I know which one was worst to me;  I still boo that ridiculous drunk, every time we invite him back to celebrate the accomplishments of real Razorbacks.

Who do you think is the biggest turncoat in Hog history?
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I think your booing is misplaced, Broyles is the one you should be booing IMO.

Marcus is my second all-time favorite hog behind Matt Jones.  I don't know much about the "distractions" but either way it's disappointing his brother didn't want to be a hog.

Manchurian Monk should be a pole option.....

Betrayal...really? Who did Monk betray? University of Arkansas or the state of Arkansas? What does he owe to either of those two entities? Same with Goodwin.

Add the Broyles and White handling of Nolan and that would be my choice. I say that, not the handling afterwards, I am saying the managing of Nolan that lead to the issues.

Marcus went to UA and played for us in Football and Basketball  His Brother made a business decision to go Big Blue.

As did I.  I understand that he, Lou, Kenny and many others hit the door because of the way Frank either treated them or rode them.  Now, I appreciate all he did in building us up to a decent athletic program with great facilities.  And sometimes when you work for A$$hats like Saban and others that are that intense, they just don't feel like handling anyone with kid gloves or be decent in any way.  I know those type of leaders frequently get results, but I know that I myself wouldn't have worked for him very long.

You can hold a grudge all you want to. I'm just stating what I've heard from him personally and he didn't turn his back on us. He simply had to leave. There are some of his former players that love him and this state both. Some even still live here and support the UA including some with their money. Without him maybe that doesn't happen. What more do you want him to do, grovel at your feet and beg for forgiveness.

I voted for Eddie on the poll.  I understand why he did what he did in regards to Frank, and that was the only point I was making and apparently some others agree with me that Frank was one of those driven guys that just tries to get everyone to function at his level of perfection.  That being said, the "crawl to Kentucky" line is the thing that Arkansas fans can never forgive him for, much more than the going.

He was dead to me, and should be dead to Razorback fans, from that moment onward, forever.

He was NOT intentionally slamming Hog fans or the state or the school. He said that before he ever left KY. IF I wasn't an alum as I am and IF KY called and wanted to talk to me about being their head basketball coach I'd take the call. As I said I know him and he loved it here. Do I like that he said it, nope. Can I forgive him, yes because I know why he felt he needed to leave at the time. Hindsight being 20/20 he himself recognizes he said it wrong. He also knows he really didn't have to leave.

Is there enough smoke in the "Malik wanted to commit to MA three weeks ago" story to create a fire? If it's truly Malik's decision without the urging of Marcus, that's fine. We dealt with KJ Hill, Archie, James Anderson, Tenpenny (RIP), and a host of others forfeiting their Arkansas residency. We won't be happy about it, but we'll live.

However, if it's true that Marcus influenced this commitment and signing in hopes of elevating his status in the business world, I can only say I've lost all respect for him. Hog fans get over losing players in a fair fight, but we don't forget when a player we supported and cheered for uses his past as a Razorback to line his pockets, gain employment, and gain support for his business ventures before (allegedly) refusing to let his brother be a Hog.

This is the worse! Everyone else's was their own undoing and Broyles forced Sutton to run.  This you have a former Razorback, who was given a job with the basketball program, involved.  I can live with Malik deciding to go to UK for every other reason, if the rumor is true I put the blame squarely on one of my favorite Hogs ever. That is crushing!

KY is one of, if not THE top college basketball jobs in the country and you hold a grudge for that? I can only think of a few situations in college sports where if a coach left for another team the jilted fans would have a case for disliking them for leaving and most of those are in football. Besides Eddie and Frank have reconciled.

P:.S. He took the job in 1974. I dated a Hog players cousin that year in high school. When I went with her to a family dinner and he was there I asked him about Eddie (that was before I met Eddie) and he said it was very different from Van Eman. He liked it though.

Screw Eddie.    Boo Eddie at every opportunity.   Screw Kentucky.

I don't give a fat rat's darn what Eddie and Frank have done.    Screw Eddie.

I wish I could conjure up that much emotion about anything...or this much anger about something that happened 30 years ago. Wow. I can't even imagine harboring that much hatred or anger about anything sports related.

I am in awe.

Quote from: GA reddiehog on April 16, 2024, 07:44:38 pmPitching over hyped and hitting nonexistent is going to make for several loses here on out. Maybe it will not be as bad as the BB team. Lack of hitting has been a problem for many moons.
