Trevor Etienne, Georgia RB transfer from Florida, arrested for DUI, other driving charges
Andrew Olson | 5 minutes ago

QuoteTrevor Etienne is making the wrong kind of headlines in his first spring at Georgia. The UGA running back, a transfer from rival Florida, was arrested Saturday morning on multiple driving charges, including DUI.

Athens-Clarke County records show Etienne was booked at 4:35 a.m. and released on bond at 5:27 a.m. Saturday. He is charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane/improper driving on road and affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield.

Etienne's DUI charge is labeled "DUI – alcohol – less safe." Under Georgia law, drivers can receive DUI less safe charges even if their blood alcohol content is below .08 if the officer finds the driver to be driving impaired.

Dawg Nation notes that Etienne is the first Bulldog player to be arrested this offseason. Last offseason, Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Jalen Carter, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and De'Nylon Morrissette all faced driving-related arrests. In January 2023, offensive lineman Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy tragically lost their lives in an auto accident.

Etienne's transfer from Florida to Georgia was one of the more high-profile transfer stories of the most recent portal cycle.

At this time, Georgia coach Kirby Smart has not publicly commented on Etienne's arrest.

Further details finally emerge from Georgia RB Trevor Etienne's Sunday morning DUI arrest

by:
Dan Morrison

QuoteOn Sunday morning, Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was arrested and charged with a DUI. Now, further details have emerged regarding that arrest.

In total, Etienne was charged with four traffic-related misdemeanors. That includes charges for DUI (less safe), reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and affixing materials that reduce visibility of his windows and windshield. Now, DawgsHQ has obtained the incident report from the ACC:

On early Sunday morning, the arresting officer observed Etienne's vehicle come to a sudden stop at South Milledge Avenue and Macon Highway. The stop was so sudden, in fact, the tires screeched. Following that, Etienne was observed passing two cars, one of which was on a blind curve, at what is described as a high-rate of speed.

At that point, the officer says they put their lights on and began to pursue Etienne and, according to the officer, was not able to catch up to him while going 80 to 90 mph.

Etienne reportedly didn't stop until he reached his gated community. That's when the officer spoke to Etienne, who said he was just trying to get home and admitted he had been drinking. He also did not consent to a field sobriety test and told the officer he would push the car home if he needed to. During this time, the officer says Etienne swayed from side to side while he spoke. His speech was also reportedly slurred. All of that is what led to the officer making the decision to arrest Etienne.

When tested, Etienne's window tint also exceeded the four percent limit. That was found with equipment that another officer brought to the scene.

Trevor Etienne was booked at the ACC at 4:23.

He later posted his bond, set at $1,883.

Georgia backfield hard at work, Trevor Etienne challenged

By Mike Griffith, Dawgnation

QuoteATHENS — Georgia tailback Trevor Etienne is getting "coached up" in the aftermath of his reckless driving and DUI arrest on Sunday morning.

UGA program sources confirmed Etienne was recently working one-on-one with an assistant pushing a weighted blocking sled during practice.

It had the look of extra conditioning, for ages effectively used within sports teams and military units as an inner-disciplinary measure.

Coach Kirby Smart came out in strong support of Etienne's character at his Tuesday press conference, addressing the star running back's arrest and the consequences to come after the Florida transfer's well-documented traffic stop.

"I think he is a great kid and a great person," Smart said. "We have gotten to know his family. He enjoys being coached, and he is a bright kid. We push him hard out there, and he really loves the competition."

There does indeed seem plenty of competition in the Bulldogs' backfield when it comes to earning the starting tailback position along with snaps and carries.

Smart told a group of boosters recently that sophomore Roderick Robinson, listed at 6-foot, 240-pound, has only 7-percent body fat.

Robinson, sources said, had a notable run in a recent scrimmage through the tackle attempt of freshman KJ Bolden, who got a lesson in trying to tackle high.

The spirited competition taking place in the Bulldogs' program — and the special attention Etienne is receiving — will continue through spring drills leading up to George's annual G-Day Game on April 13 is fast approaching.

If there was one area the 5-9, 205-pound Etienne did need the extra work, per those who covered him at Florida, it was developing more power to break tackles and finish runs falling forward.

"It's a teaching moment," Smart said of the challenging extra work Etienne has ahead in the aftermath of this off-field issue, "and we think he gets better from it."

Kirby credits Trevor Etienne's handling of football since DUI arrest

by: Dan Morrison

QuoteKirby Smart has a better look at his team as a whole, including transfer running back Trevor Etienne.

While speaking to members of the media after the spring game, Smart praised Etienne for his talent work ethic, and how he's handled football since his DUI arrest.

"He's a good back," Kirby Smart said. "He's explosive, he's quick in and out of the hole. He's different than what we've had. I think the [D'Andre] Swift analogy is good. [James] Cook analogy is good.

"He's really taken a lot of personal pride in working on his protection. He had a nice pick up today. He's learning the offense. Look, the guy's been a good SEC player for two years. It's not like he's a freshman."

Trevor Etienne was arrested for DUI on Sunday, March 24th. In total, he was charged with four traffic-related misdemeanors, including DUI (less safe), reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and affixing materials that reduce visibility of his windows and windshield.

"He's a really good player and a really good kid. I've been proud of the way he's handled everything since his deal," Smart said.
