Randy Hanson, btw, said this after the Raiders' opening game last season:

"It's a good thing that Shanahan didn't have our players, or else he would have beaten us 1,000-0."

During the game, Rob Ryan slapped down Hanson for undermining him with the players after the defensive game plan had fallen apart.

Lane Kiffin suspended Hanson for a game.  Hanson was one of Al Davis's favorites.  This helped pave the way to Kiffin's firing.  Kiffin didn't talk to Davis before the suspension.

Wasn't long after that Kiffin told the media that Ryan and Davis were in charge of the defense.  Davis didn't like Kiffin's refusing to take any responsibility for the defense's performance.  Well, Kiffin had wanted to fire Ryan in the offseason.  That didn't happen till Tom Cable became head coach.
