Regarding Boise St. QB Kellen Moore's chances of winning the Heisman...
"it's just not realistic...and just to be frank, they don't have any relationship with ESPN..."

so now we know what it takes...(to state the obvious). But I can't believe he actually came out and said it.

The MWC has a TV contract with the Versus channel. They won't be on ESPN and most people don't get Versus, so alot of people won't get to watch him, so they won't vote for him

bsking

Of course exposure is half the battle for the heisman.  The MWC is never on ESPN, thus no one will see him.  Not really revolutionary news.

Being shown on ESPN isn't as important as being promoted by ESPN.

True, but aren't they more likely to promote him if they were to broadcast some games?

I thought it had to do w/ the best player in college football, not whether or not you had a relationship w/ ESPN.

Heisman has been a joke for a long time

(notOM)Rebel123

He was a finalist last year, so several voters have obviously seen him play or at least heard of him. I realize you have to be promoted by ESPN, I was just surprised at Herbstreit's arrogant attitude while actually admitting it.

Landry Jones will win the Heisman.  If I had throw away money to bet on it I would.  OU will run the table and he's already the darling of the ESPN hype-machine.  Also, he meets the required criteria for the Heisman:

Make it to the BCS title game:  Most likely a check
Be a QB for a traditional powerhouse: check
Perform on ESPN several times a year: check
Be talked about on ESPN gameday, ESPN CFB live every damn day!: check
Play for the #1 team: check

It's basically Jones' and OU's to give away.

Agree.  They might as well add the Heisman to the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show.

I almost wish they would do away with the Heisman and just have positional awards, like the Butkus award for linebackers, etc.

That way all positions would get an equitable reward, and a fair representation of who is the BEST at their POSITION.
I still can't believe that Fuzzy's is gone...

A VERY long time. It is all about hype, and which school you go to. It has been awarded to the QB of a losing team (Hornung), a basketball player at FSU (Charlie Ward), and quite a few one-hit wonders. "System" QBs and TBs, with no truly great ability, have won a bunch.

If you compile a list of the greatest NFL football players of all-time, there are practically no Heisman winners there. Yeah, I know NFL ain't college, but still......

But you forget about Troy Smith, Danny Wuerffel, Ron Dayne, Matt Leinart, Geno Toretti, and Eric Crouch, all who had Hall of Fame NFL careers!

Actually the only one I can think of recently who has had a great career is Charles Woodson.  Ricky Williams has been so-so.  Some of the older running backs did pretty well.  Didn't Dickerson win the Heisman.

Bush and Palmer have been marginal.

There's the list of Heisman winners since 1960. It'll give you an idea who was successful in the NFL/AFL and who wasn't

EDIT- The vacated in '05 was Bush of course.

When Tebow won it over D-MAC for being the undisputed king of the one yard TD run I lost all faith in what that award represents.  I don't care about looking at their NFL careers, because it's a college award, and it's a diffferent game.  Problem is...they can't even pick the best college player anymore.

I can't believe Herbstreit said that.  Of course I shouldn't be surprised, because he picked OSU to be great this year and win the Big 10 and a berth in the Rose Bowl.  His nose is brown.
I've never wanted a Hog coach to be successful more than I do for Pittman.  He's one of the good guys.

Troy Smith won DMAC's Heinzman. DMAC had two big losses where he didn't play well the year Tebow one.

The voters gave the nod to Troy Smith because Darren McFadden was a sophomore and they wouldn't give it to a sophomore. The next 3 season's saw 3 straight sophomores win it...Tebow, Bradford, and Ingram. The award means almost as little to me as the Baseball HOF without Pete Rose.

While Herbie is a homer for his alma mater (rightfully so) he is a student of the game. I have always thought he treads the line very well. All he was saying is that without media exposure Moore does not stand a chance. The conference he plays in is weak with minimal, inconsistent national exposure.

The Heisman trophy is dead to me and has been since they gave it to Tebow over McFadden. I have boycotted the Heisman since then.

People...Tebow WON the Heisman over McFadden.  It was the year before that they gave it to Troy Smith.

You have to remember that they said McFadden couldn't win it as a sophomore.  Had that stupid rule not existed the first time he was up for it, he'd have beaten Smith handily.  Only the next year did they change it which then gave it to the person who had the best season.
