O'Brien takes a ball, 2-0, 3-0, and we walk the batter hitting .211 who has struck out 10 times this year

Schuler takes a ball, 1-1, 2-1, flies out to CF
Not really sure where the 1-1 pitch was.  Looked to be over the plate at the knees.

Baconomics

We look like we're pressing at the plate.  I've seen several uppercuts and weak swings today.  If they would just hit for contact, I think the hits would come.  Just my opinion.

I can't really follow along because my video feed is slow, but I am piping in to say I am a fan of this Bonnin as a starter thing.  He may be too good to not have pitch on the weekends, but this is a pretty impressive performance.

JHicks3636

Hollander who is 0-1 today and hitting .160 on the year, takes a ball, singles to right center and the runner goes to 3B

JHicks3636

JHicks3636

Mound meeting and we will have a change as DVH eases to the mound. Batter has a 2-0 count that the reliever inherits.

This is on me.  I'll see myself out...

JHicks3636

Hawkins who is 1-1 plus a walk now bats with runners on the corners and 2 out, takes a ball, ball 2, 2-1, 3-1, goes full, foul, foul, walks and the bases are jammed with 2 outs

ucahogfan

I'm a fan of having Bonnin in that Sunday role now.  Sure, he struggled a little bit throwing strikes at times, but all three hits were weaker contact.  Two infield singles up the middle and a Texas Leaguer.  Would be great to see if he can maintain velo as he continues.  Went from 92-95 in the first to more 89-92 at the end.

JHicks3636

Mamarella who has walked and hit into a DP, with a strike, singles and 2 runs score

3-1 Kent State

JHicks3636

JHicks3636

Kanavas who is 1-1 with a sac bunt, starts with a strike, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, grounds to 3B, bobbled, E-5 and run scores

4-1 Kent State

JHicks3636

JHicks3636

Parks who is 0-1 with a sac fly today, takes a ball, pops out to 2B

4-1 Kent State after 4 1/2

JHicks3636

For the Arkansas 5th we will see

2. Cole        1-2, 2B
3. Kjerstad   0-1, BB
4. Bonfield   1-2, rbi

JonClaudeVanHam

We've got to work on our situational hitting. Kent State is a very good team and proving it with good swings with 2 outs. We're not getting those yet this year.

Never been a fan of a pitching change with batter ahead in count, unless pitcher out of control..  Over all Bonnin's numbers were not bad, 3 walks hurt, would have let him finish inning, but DVH has forgotten more than I know, of course does not matter how you pitch if you cannot score.  Everyone knows the potential of these bats, just need to break them out.  Bottom line is lack of run support, Es, walks gets you a loss in a hurry, team sport.

JHicks3636

Bonfield who is 1-2, starts with a ball, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, fouls out to RF, Kjerstad moves to 3B

JHicks3636

Fletcher falls behind 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, walks and a long ball could tie the game

JHicks3636

Martin who has struggled today with 2 Ks on 6 pitches, finally gets a ball to get to 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, doubles and a run scores

4-2 Kent State

McFarland pinch hits for Gates, gets behind 0-2, 1-2, Ks

4-2 Kent State after 5

That 0-1 pitch being called a strike is unacceptable.  It was borderline already and the C didn't catch it.  Zone looked to expand some on that AB to McFarland.

JHicks3636

In the Flashbulb 6th

5. Dalporto  0-2
6. Hamilton  0-2
7. Schuler    0-2

I'm gonna guess here, but that can't make a coach happy when he calls on you to PH and you strike out never lifting the bat from your shoulders with 2 RISP.

Doesn't help McFarland in the fact that the zone expanded some and pitches which had been called balls all game suddenly became a strike.

JHicks3636

Schuler takes a ball, 1-1, 1-2, lines into a DP, 2B to 1B

4-2 Kent State after 5 1/2

I've been in and out today so may have missed something, but why did we pinch hit McFarland for gates against a righty?

Gates has not been swinging very well at the plate and might have hurt himself a DP at 1B earlier in the game.

Dvh is known for many things....one if which is he plays his gut. Gates is struggling. He may have felt like it was time to try something.
