No. 15 Tigers committed five turnovers, their most since Oct. 6, 2012 against Arkansas, including four fumbles but managed to escape with a 24-10 win over Mercer before an unenthused announced crowd of 87,033 at Jordan-Hare.

It was tied for the second-most turnovers in Auburn coach Gus Malzahn's career, trailing only Tulsa's seven in the 2008 Conference USA Championship game. Malzahn called the win "sloppy," the turnovers "uncharacteristic" and repeatedly said ball security will be a focus as Auburn prepares to open SEC play.

"If you take the turnovers away I think we'd be feeling really good," Malzahn said.
