After whiffing on Kerryon Johnson, who should be Bama's next priority?

The Auburn Tigers landed a commitment from one of the state's top prospects yesterday in Madison Academy athlete Kerryon Johnson.

One running back, Vigor's Desherrius Flowers, is already committed to the Tide's 2015 class, but Alabama had been recruiting the 6-foot, 200-pound Johnson for quite some time at both running back and defensive back.

With his solid commitment to the Tigers, who should be Alabama's top priority be now?

Moments after his high school teammate, Shawn Burgess-Becker, announced his commitment to Alabama, Pompano Beach (Fla.) Monarch receiver Calvin Ridley followed suit, becoming the third prospect to commit to the Tide on Saturday. Five-star cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick also committed, and the Tide later added a fourth commitment in Brookhaven (Miss.) linebacker Leo Lewis.

Miles did not mention Kiel by name but said, "There was a gentleman from Indiana that thought about coming to the Bayou state [who] did not necessarily have the chest and the ability to lead a program."

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Kiel told SI's Martin Rickman, "That's just me being dumb again. When I called him and told him I wasn't coming, I knew he was going to be angry. I know coach Miles. I have nothing but respect for him. I can't get mad about that. I honestly probably would've done the same thing if a young, dumb kid was going to come to my school and he backed out that day and ended up at another school."

North Little Rock (Ark.) four-star receiver K.J. Hill reports receiving a visit from Oregon assistant Matt Lubick on Thursday followed by Tennessee assistant Zach Azzanni on Friday. The 247Sports Crystal Ball currently gives in-state Arkansas the edge with the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Hill, but Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma State and others are also in the mix.

247Sports currently ranks Hill as the nation's No. 144 overall prospect and the No. 16 wide receiver in the 2015 class.

A&M linebacker signee Otaro Alaka of Houston Cy Falls tweeted after Kyler Murray's announcement on Wednesday that the Aggies were going to pick up the state's top wide receiver soon as well. Though Damarkus Lodge is considered the No. 1 player at that position in the state, Houston Cy Ridge's Kemah Siverand is also in the Top247. Alaka knows Siverand well and is hinting that the talented pass-catcher could also commit to A&M soon.

Ole Miss signee Speaks said missed phone call pushed him away from LSU

The day Breeland Speaks waited months for finally arrived. Hours after his graduation on Wednesday, Speaks and fellow Ole Miss signee Dayall Harris headed to Oxford to begin their college careers.

And to think, none of this would have happened had Speaks flipped his commitment to LSU following an official visit before National Signing Day.

"I was pretty close to going to LSU," Speaks said. "Very close, very, very close. But, one thing led to another, one phone call was missed and now I'm an Ole Miss Rebel."

Speaks has never been shy about LSU being his dream school, though an offer from the Tigers didn't come until January, nearly three months after he had committed to the Rebels...

"One phone call," Speaks reiterated. "That's all it takes."

LSU got some major recruiting news on Saturday when the staff landed a commitment from four-star running back Derrius Guice, upping the total number of verbal pledges to 12 for the Tigers' 2015 class.

Guice gave his commitment to head coach Les Miles and the staff this afternoon at the "Bayou Picnic"...

Nick Saban is known for using unique recruiting techniques and this week was no different. Georgia's top-ranked commitment, 5-star WR Terry Godwin, is fresh off a 3 day visit to Bama for the Tide's camp. Godwin tells BamaOnline that Saban allowed him to blow the air horn, which cues campers to change stations.

"During the workouts, I'd walk around with Coach Saban. Me and him would have a conversation and he'd let me blow the horn for the rotations of the camp. They were saying they've never seen anyone blow the horn besides him and me. I was the first person besides him to blow the horn," Godwin said.

"It was great. It made me feel special."

Saban is not always one to toot his own horn.

Mississippi State landed a commitment on Thursday evening from Adamsville (Ala.) Minor three-star cornerback Maurice Smitherman.
The 5-foot-9, 178-pound defensive back chose the Bulldogs over Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Only Georgia had offered.
