FAIRFIELD, Alabama -- Restoration Academy will likely always remember Deion Calhoun. Not just for his fun-loving smile and outgoing personality.

When Calhoun signs with Mississippi State on National Signing Day next month, he'll become the first player from that program to even (sic) sign with an FBS school. The 6-foot-2, 310-pounder was offered by the Bulldogs on December 20th last month.

Calhoun, known as "Shaq" at his school, made a verbal commitment shortly thereafter on Christmas Day.

His given name is Deion but he goes by Shaq.  Has a 3.4 GPA and had offers from Western and UAB as well. Their coaches are now at UofL.

Final A-Listers released

The list was originally released in May, with a first revision in August. This will be the final revision before national signing day on Feb. 5.

The list includes seven Auburn commitments, four Alabama commits and one player headed to Ole Miss. Three members of the list remain uncommitted - Evans, Hoover cornerback Marlon Humphrey and Homewood offensive lineman Jordan Sims.

The announcement from the five-star quarterback, rated as the nation's No. 1 quarterback for 2015 by 247Sports, comes just one week after Town and his family took an unofficial visit to Southern Cal.

Town was visited at his school this week by Nick Saban shortly after the Tide head coach paid a visit to another star California quarterback, five-star recruit Josh Rosen.

Tide's recruiting class includes two 5-star cornerbacks who just so happen to be the nation's top two prep track and field hurdle recruits.

Tony Brown, a 6-foot, 182-pounder from Beaumont, Texas, is already enrolled in school at Alabama and, despite some off-field trouble, is likely to contribute early for the Tide. He was ranked the 25th-best player in the country overall by Rivals.com and the No. 4 cornerback. On the track, however, Brown is as good as they come. His time of 13.38 in the 110-meter high hurdles run during his junior season was tied for the fastest mark in the country in that event. How fast is that? Well, 2012 Olympic gold medalist and current 110-meter high hurdle world record holder Aries Merritt had a best time of 13.92 in high school...

Marlon Humphrey on Wednesday morning, too. If there's any football player/track athlete more talented than Brown in this class, it might be Humphrey.

Marlon Humphrey, the 6-foot, 175-pounder from Hoover, Ala., is ranked the No. 9 player overall by Rivals.com and the No. 2 cornerback. He also tied Brown for the top 110-meter hurdles time in the country last track season, at the aforementioned 13.38 time. But Humphrey was also the nation's best at both the 300 and 400-meter intermediate hurdles as well. His top 300-meter hurdle time of 35.60 is close to challenging the prep record set by NCAA champion Reggie Wyatt and his 50.25 time in the 400 hurdles is also outstanding. While Brown will be taking in spring ball for the Tide, Humphrey will have another go at breaking that mark when track season rolls around.

Marlon's father, of course, played at Bama, his brother at Arkansas.

Five days before National Signing Day, LSU is targeting eight prospects for their signatures.

This is the home stretch of, in some cases, what has been a three-year process of relationship building and constant courting of the state's most talented players (John Curtis stars Malachi Dupre and Kenny Young).

In other cases, LSU has swooped in at the 11th hour with hopes of snatching a prospect from another school or plucking a player from a distant state (TCU receiver commit Emanuel Porter and California cornerback Adoree' Jackson).

Young, Dupre, Porter and Jackson join a pair of Florida natives, offensive tackle Derrick Kelly and defensive tackle Travonte Valentine, and Georgia defensive end Lorenzo Carter and Texas defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao as LSU's closing targets.

LSU has 19 commitments for the 2014 class, leaving six spots open. The Tigers are limited to signing 25 on National Signing Day on Wednesday [Shea Dixon believes that LSU will not sign the full 25], when players make their commitments binding.

LSU isn't likely to grab commitments from all of the eight. Four of those targets are leaning toward signing with LSU, said William Weathers, a recruiting reporter at TigerBait.com, a Rivals.com affiliate.

They include Dupre, Valentine, Kelly and Lealaimatafao.

Frank Ragnow announced that he's heading to Arkansas.

Frank Ragnow is heading to Arkansas.

The 6-6, 290-pound offensive lineman, who had narrowed his choices to Minnesota and Arkansas, announced his decision Friday at Chanhassen High School.

Ragnow was considered one of the main priorities in this recruiting class for the Gophers, who worked tirelessly to convince him to stay home after first offering him a scholarship before his junior year. He also had offers from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Missouri and Vanderbilt and took an official visit to Florida State.

In the end, Ragnow decided to leave Big Ten country and head to the SEC.

At Arkansas, he'll be playing for former Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema, who allows his offensive linemen to fly first class on team flights, with the rest of the players in coach.
