Willie Allen: Les Miles called LSU's newest commit Willie Allen "the missing piece"

"It wasn't an easy decision," Allen told SEC Country. "I sat down with my family to talk about it, and they didn't make it easy for me."

LSU edged out TCU and Auburn, but the decision truly came down to the Tigers and Horned Frogs.

Allie pegged the two teams as even throughout most of the process.

"Schools like TCU recruited me hard, but they were eight, nine hours away," Allen said. "I got a lot of respect for their coaching staff, and when I told them I was going to commit, they said 'I don't care' and 'We love you.' It wasn't an easy decision. It was emotional and a tough decision."

The 6-foot-7, 310-pound tackle and nation's No. 15 prospect at the position.

"Coach Miles was happy," Allen said of the call. "He says I'm the missing piece to the puzzle. That's a good feeling, and I'm ready to get there and work ... I plan on playing as a true freshman. I want to work hard this summer in the weight room to get better. I have a lot of confidence (I can play early), but I have to compete wherever I go."

Auburn coaches attempted to meet with Allen on Thursday, but they didn't have an opportunity. Auburn was one of the three finalists for Allen, who informed SEC Country that Ole Miss rescinded its offer last week.

Allen also was courted by UGA, Miami and Mississippi State.

"All of them are good schools and I have nothing bad to say about them," Allen said. "Ole Miss dropped me because all of their tackle spots were filled. Coach Hugh (Freeze) came by last week and told me. I didn't have a problem with it. It made my decision easier actually."

More good news for MSU. Dontea Jones has officially been cleared. So five Bulldogs enrolled early.

State received help in the process of replacing key seniors on offense and defense on Thursday. FIve prospects from the 2016 recruiting class enrolled at the university.

The key name is Dontea Jones, who became eligible on Thursday. Cornerbacks Lashard Durr and C.J. Morgan-Walker, tight end Christian Roberson and defensive tackle Tre Brown all enrolled last week.

Jones, a 6-foot-4 tight end, should compete for reps starting on day one of spring practice. Jones is the top-ranked player at his position in all of junior college. He originally signed with Mississippi State last year. Mississippi State is extremely thin at tight end. It lost Darrion Hutcherson to graduation and Gus Walley's career is in jeopardy after multiple concussions.

"There's a lot of great Louisiana players at Arkansas, a lot that came out of the Catholic League," said three-star linebacker Giovanni LaFrance, a St. Augustine prospect that committed to the Razorbacks on Saturday.

"Michael Smith played in the Catholic League," LaFrance added. "Now he's recruiting players out of the Catholic League because he knows a lot of the players are good."

Arkansas' current roster features six players that hail from The Boot, including two that played in the Catholic League: Dwayne Eugene and Henre' Toliver, both from Archbishop Rummel.

Rummel is also where four-star defensive lineman and Razorbacks pledge Briston Guidry has been an All-State selection the past two years.

Shyheim Carter, however, has seemingly brought LSU back into the mix after leaning toward Alabama, Ole Miss, Miami and UGA over the past couple of weeks. Carter has maintained strong ties with the LSU coaching staff, and because he has two children in nearby Kentwood, La., the Tigers could make a late push for the four-star corner.

Mullen made his fifth and final official visit to LSU last weekend, and has publicly stated that all five of his finalists — LSU, Florida State, Clemson, Louisville and TCU — all have a chance. However, LSU, Florida State and Clemson are the three most likely teams to nab a commitment from the four-star cornerback.

Between D'Andre Christmas-Giles and Stephon Taylor, which defensive tackle is more likely to end up at LSU?

Both of the New Orleans prospects are set to make their decision on Feb. 3, but Christmas-Giles is the defensive tackle more likely to don a purple and gold cap.

Rebels have 22 commitments prior to the last official visit weekend where it will host more than 20 prospects. Ole Miss expects to sign upward of 27 players, so there are roughly five or six spots left that Hugh Freeze and his staff hope to solidify this weekend. Among the big names expected are five-star defensive end Jeffery Simmons, who is arguably the Rebels' top priority. We won't call them an overwhelming favorite...

Is Mississippi State in panic mode?

MSU isn't in an ideal position with a handful of its remaining targets as time ticks away. It doesn't help the Bulldogs that West Point offensive tackle Scott Lashley is headed to LSU this weekend on an official visit as they have yet to land a commitment from the player many expected to be a Mississippi State pledge long before now...

Every NFL head coaching vacancy has been filled, and a smiling Sumlin strolled with a slew of recruits in front of the crowd at last Saturday's Texas A&M-Missouri basketball game at Reed Arena.

The Aggies, with a top-20 recruiting class still intact, so far have weathered the storms leading to signing day. But can they keep it that way over the final few crucial days and perhaps squeeze into the top 10 with a late surge?

"I was eating at a restaurant during my Arkansas visit, and the waiter came over and asked who we were and told us we should become Hawgs,'" Cater said.

"The guy told us 'Once you're a Hawg, you're always a Hawg!  I don't bleed blood, I bleed little piggies!'

Cater said the man went to the back to grab a knife and show them, but his friends stopped him.

"That guy was crazy. It was a little funny, but definitely a memorable moment that I won't forget. Those Arkansas fans really love their football team."
