Quote from: HogBroker on Today at 05:04:02 pmPeople keep talking about a batting philosophy of running up the pitch count. But how often are pitchers taken out due to pitch count? Isn't it more often when they get in some trouble? Like 2-3 runs in an inning, a string of hits, loss of control, etc. What's the real point of running up the pitch count?

It also seems like we are hitting from behind the count very often. Then getting us out on pitchers' pitches - strike outs, fly outs, grounders (man we pound balls into the dirt often too). Meanwhile, earlier in the count we watch hitters pitches go by.

Then again, what it seems like and what the reality is are two different things. Would love to see some data to really study this theory.
We've been doing it this way a long time.  And it keeps getting us back to the CWS.  We have just seen a bad season with Kendall hurting his shoulder and slumping and Wilms going from a .300 hitter last season to less than .200 in SEC play this season.

I'd also bet a sixer that our first ball swinging BA is as bad or worse than pretty much all other counts, short of 0-2.

It's frustrating to know we have all these high level players available and we don't have the NIL to compete

QuoteWhile the analysts have Ohio State as the top team coming out of the spring, Georgia still headlines the national championship odds entering 2024 at +320.

Quote from: hogfan10 on Today at 04:38:16 pmWho says that's not what's happening. As was posted earlier, hitters have a comfort zone, they're not all the same. Diggs, as an example, has always been a patient hitter & for the most part has been pretty successful with that approach.

Very patient. So patient, in fact, that he picks one pitch to hit, and he'll watch strike 3 all game until he gets that one pitch. Which, this last Friday, he got a couple times and cashed in - so Kentucky adjusted their approach to him in games 2 & 3, and he didn't see another "it pitch" the rest of the weekend ... and, well, you know what happened.

He is healthy and working out with Hopkins.  If he is going to live up to the hype it would be this year.  I hope if he gets traded it is somewhere with a good QB.

I'm not a fan of your starting centerfielder hitting about a buck 50, but hey, maybe he comes out of it, it is best for us if he does, give him the three-game series at home and see what happens
