For the second-consecutive season, the UAFS men's basketball team has received a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

UAFS (24-5) received the No. 7 seed in the South Central Region and will play No. 2 seed University of Texas of the Permian Basin in the first round of the tournament, which will be hosted by No. 1 seed West Texas A&M at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.

It will be a match-up of a current Heartland Conference member in UAFS and a former Heartland Conference member University of Texas of the Permian Basin, which is now a member of the Lone Star Conference.

Game dates and times will be announced on Monday.

The nationally-ranked Lions, who shared the Heartland Conference regular-season title, received one of five at-large bids to the national tournament. It will be the Lions' fourth national tournament appearance in seven seasons as an active NCAA Division II member.

UAFS was a No. 6 seed in 2014 and lost 72-66 to No. 3 seed Midwestern State in the first round. It was the No. 6 seed in 2016 and lost 92-85 to No. 3 seed Angelo State in the first round, and it was the No. 8 seed last year and lost 80-79 to No. 1 seed Colorado School of Mines.

In other first-round matchups, West Texas A&M will play No. 8 seed Colorado School of Mines, No. 3 seed Regis will play No. 6 seed Dallas Baptist and No. 4 seed Fort Lewis will play Texas A&M-Commerce.

UAFS one and out at the Heartland Conference Tournament was very disappointing.
