ATHENS — Georgia has announced that football signee D'Antne Demery has been "released" from his letter-of-intent, after the offensive lineman's Saturday night arrest on two misdemeanor battery charges.

The news comes just over an hour after Demery was released on bond from the Athens-Clarke County jail

SEC passed a rule last year prohibiting any school from accepting a player with a history of sexual or domestic violence

Georgia football signee D'Antne Demery has been released from his letter of intent and will not play for the Bulldogs following an arrest on domestic violence charges Saturday night in Athens.

Demery is accused of grabbing and shoving the woman with which he has a one-year-old child, who also told police Demery "has been physically violent with her in the past."

4-star offensive lineman from Brunswick, Ga., was charged with criminal trespass and simple battery after being booked at 10:52 p.m. on Saturday, hours after appearing at Georgia's spring football game.

The 6-foot-7, 310-pound Demery was rated a 4-star recruit and the No. 204 overall prospect in the Class o' '17. He had scholarship offers from a number of SEC powers in addition to Georgia, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee.

These allegations are damning. The 6-foot-6, 325-pound high school senior was charged with putting his hands on a woman that was also the mother of his child.

An initial dispute prompted a 911 call from a Waffle House.

It didn't stop there. Those threats

But I still can't help but feel for him. That wasn't the D'Antne Demery I knew.
